An Explosive NARS Holiday Collection

Artists Over Celebrities

One of the things I love about NARS collaborations is it teaches me to be cultured. Hah! Instead of doing curated collections with celebrities – NARS opts to work with and take inspiration from artists – photographers, painters, filmmakers. From Andy Warhol to Guy Bourdin to Sarah Moon and now, an American visual artist who is a significant part of the Dada and Surrealist movement – Man Ray. I’ve actually been browsing through his his artworks online for the past hour now as I’ve only heard of him the moment the NARS holiday collection was announced. From there, I’ve been reading up on the Dada movement as well as the other art movements in history. I knoooow – from makeup to history real quick, right? Thank you, NARS.

The Collection

Double Take Overexposed Glow Highlighter

I’ve the OG NARS highlighter – Albatross – which was one of my first ever highlighters. Double Take is a medium gold with warm peach undertones and a luminous sheen. ALbatross is a stark ivory highlighter with a medium gold sheen. I find Albatross to have a more visible highlight than Double Take, which only gives a subtle sheen. I find the powder smooth and creamy and easily blendable without leaving any chunky glitter flecks. I love this highlighter much more than I thought I would in the beginning.

Debauched Duo Eyeshadow

I’ve definitely learned to love NARS eyeshadows especially after losing my beloved NARSissist mega eyeshadow palette. Their duo eyeshadows originally were hit or miss. Some of them were quite sheer and others were patchy but this particular duo is insanely pigmented. Both cool-toned plums, I was afraid of not being able to work them at first – but plums/lilacs/orchids are my favorite eyeshadow colors so I was determined to make them work. There plum shimmer is smooth and beautifully bold when applied but easy to blend and the blackened purple with minute violet glitter flecks are so easy to blend considering they’re matte and might register muddy.

Intensely Blush

Best known for their blushes, NARS comes out with a beautiful warm orange-hued addition to their mega family.  It’s a shade I haven’t ever tried. The most orange I’ve ever gone is only NARS Gina, a light tangerine. Was so hesitant on wearing this but I think it suits my skintone nicely (see my FOTDs below) and it’s perfect with the next item on this list – yet another one I don’t usually wear (hint: it’s glossy).

Photogloss in Muse and Off Limits

Oh my gloss. Probably one of my not-so-favorite makeup item ever invented. I don’t know, I just can’t stand the feeling of gloss in my lips for the whole day especially in our humid weather. But NARS makes the most likeable lip gloss I’ve ever tried – I’ve even finished up a bottle – the one and only NARS Turkish Delight (reportedly Kim K’s favorite lip gloss). However – to be honest – when I saw the colors I was sent, I thought, “Man, GOLD and FUSCHIA. Keri ko ba to?” But you know me, Sharina middle name determined-to-make-it-work Marie. Who would’ve thunk I could rock GOLD lip gloss? Check out my FOTDs below to see.

Velvet Eyeliner Santiago and Nagoya

One of the most underrated (well, for me) products of the brand is their beautiful eyeliners. Non-smudge, long-wearing pencil liners that glide easily without breaking. Ugh, I love them. Nagoya is a violet while Santiago is a rich shimmering auburn perfect for everyday lower lashline color. Compared to their darker liners, these are a bit sheerer but easily blendable so I imagine they can be used as cream eyeshadow as well.

What do you think?

I surprisingly like the gold lipgloss + orange blush + purple eye look combo. The fuschia is too much for me – but on special occasions, it’d be a good change. Let me know your favorites!
