A Little Office (and Work Life) Sneak Peek

Work-Life Balance?

Is there such a thing?!
My sister and I have been working on this little space for a few months now. It used to be a dank, dreary office with an ‘antique’ photocopy machine and the ugliest-looking office chairs with one small light bulb miserably exposing the room. But it was relatively reasonably-priced and we were in dire need of a small studio space to shoot and work in. But we saw potential (okay maybe we were desperate for a place to work in without having to pay for outrageous coffee prices just so we could leech off internet) in it.
We basically DIY-ed this whole office wanting to transform it from dreary to dreamy. We painted the walls ourselves (OMG shoutout to the painters who do this for a living. NKKLK mag-pantay ng paint okay). We went to Divisoria, walked the whole Soler Street, looking for lighting. The only thing we hired professionals for is the air-con installation (di na namin level yon, guys!) and our sofa reupholstery. We sought Upcycle Manila to turn our old, butas-butas old-school sofa that looked like “pwede nang itapon kasi nakakahiya na ibenta” into this thing of beauty that it is now. We also just sourced our office table from a second-hand furniture group in Facebook driving all the way to Alabang to get it (with Selene and Tristan in tow because no yaya).
FYI, my sister and I started a creative studio/social media management company. We basically shoot, direct, style and churn out content for brands who have no big budget yet for full-scale campaigns (think of the cost of hiring a separate photoographer, stylist, model, hair and makeup artist, studio, etc). That’s where we come in, we can be your creative team for way, way less. PS. Should you want to hire us, shoot us an email at santillancreatives@gmail.com.
We also recently launched our own brand, Rory & Sloan. Right now, our first collection is earrings, but we plan to release other items soon. We we want to be a power woman’s accessory to feeling confident, not being afraid to express oneself, owning whatever labels they throw us (I’m bossy? I’m maarte? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!), basically kicking ass. We love to empower the working gals – from those who work 9-5 to those who work round the clock (freelancers, ya hear us?), to mommas who work their asses off 24/7 to care for their kids, run their households and still manage to stay sane through it all (I feel ya, moms).
At the moment, we are still looking to grow our Rory & Sloan team since doing everything (without a yaya, which is the hardest) is driving me (and for sure, my sister) nuts. But we are also so OC about everything that hiring team members just for the sake of might entail more stress. But yes, this is a call to creative minds out there – if you are willing to work with us, please shoot us an email at hello@roryandsloan.com. Scratch being creative, if you have extra time on your hands, are willing to work with two crazy girls and most importantly, are willing to come up with crazier ideas for our “women will kick yo ass” brand, let’s have coffee.

Diptyque-ing away the smell of the old, dank place. Rosamundi, help us.
One of our favorite pieces definitely. Sharing the transformation of this sofa here next week!
That’s it. Just a small update! I miss just blogging about the mundane things and sharing bits and pieces of life, you know? I should do more of these. What you think? Would you be interested to hear about our work journey (the good, the bad, the nitty gritty)? Let me know below! Also, we really are looking for people to add to our team so if you’ve got spare time (part-time and work-from-home is okay!), shoot us an email.
