Eye’ve Got the Power

Maybelline Power Black Eyeliner
You know all those memes about eyeliner on how you can never get both of them to look even? When you think you’ve done the first eye perfectly only to mess everything up on your second eye. Erase. Repeat. Too thin, have to add thickness. Oh shoot, now it’s too thick. YUP THAT’S ME. Let’s not even bother with the cat eye or the feline flick. *Sigh*. Eyeliner. It’s a love-hate thing. What I love about it though is its power to transform – the eyes or your whole makeup. You can have a full face of makeup yet still look meh without eyeliner. Although if you’ve full lashes with mascara on, it sometimes does the trick even without liner. But for those who’ve sparse lashes like myself that even with mascara on, I look like I don’t have any – eyeliner does wonders.
I put the new Maybelline Hypersharp Power Black Eyeliner to the test for this post to show you how dramatic a change eyeliner can produce. I actually already liked the Hypersharp eyeliner for its thinness and flexibility but I felt that it lacked pigment so I have to go over my lids several times for intensity. I think Maybelline heard our woes which made them come up with this new powerful black eyeliner that’s a variation of their previous release.

The Maybelline Power Black eyeliner is intensely jet black in one stroke. Just look at it, you guys. Maybelline concocted a special combination of light-absorbing film and micro-carbon pigments for this eyeliner. The pen is quite thin so it’s very lightweight. It has a brush tip rather than a felt tip. I personally like brush tips better now after seeing how illegally fast most felt tip liners dry out and fray. The Power Black 0.5 mm precision tip is quite versatile as it is able to draw precise lines, either thin or thick, with ease. Not to mention how smoothly it glides on the lids.
It does not crease, transfer, or fade at all. I mean, intensely and intentionally smudge it – then it would of course. I noticed that the whole day – around 7 hours, I’d say – it stayed put without much fuss. I could say that it is definitely one long-staying eyeliner. It is not waterproof though, you guys – only water resistant. Not such a huge problem for me since I like being able to wash it off with ease at the end of the day. I think I’ve found my new daily eyeliner.

The Look

Back to Black

See how it transforms my already complete makeup look? I went from mellowed-out chill to let’s-kick-this-day-in-the-ass with just one stroke of eyeliner each on my upper lids and halfway on my lower lids. Look closely, I did a slightly winged down tip just to put emphasis. That’s about as far as symmetrical as I can get with “winged eyeliner”. Winged out and up is still something I have yet to accomplish without throwing stuff and yelling expletives.
So what do you think of the power of eyeliner? Share your eyeliner stories below, guys!

Ah this one sounds great and looks amazing on you! I completely agree, eyeliner especially with a flick does wonders for my eyes, but due to my eye shape if I DO do winged liner, I have to go all out and do a huge wing! Otherwise you can’t even see it… Much too much of a faff for me on the daily but something I need start doing more often!

Even after almost 7 years of practice with eyeliner, mine still sometimes drives me crazy, I need to look for something that creates the perfect cat eye! This one looks and sounds amazing.

I’ve long accepted the fact that unlike YouTube makeup gurus, I can’t do my eyeliner perfectly in one try, so I always have cotton buds and makeup remover handy to erase small mistakes. That, or I go without eyeliner at all.

I picked up a Maybelline Master Brow today because Etude House ran out of my fave brow liner (Still waiting for Malissa Kiss to launch so I can try their brow liner. Heard from Raiza that it is amaziiing!). Kicking myself because I did not get this eyeliner as well 🙁

I need this liner haha the recent one I got (which was sent to me) dried out so fast coz it’s got a felt tip 🙁 how much is this though? I ran out of my K-Palette and I’m looking for a cheaper alternative!

P.S. your lenses are so captivating talaga haha been meaning to tell you that since before =))

Lovely! You’ve got a fierce look up there. I wish I’m as good as you when putting eyeliners! 😀 honestly I’m afraid that I might mess up my eyelids. That’s why I’m not fond of putting some. 🙁

I don’t usually wear eyeliners ‘cos I have big eyes. I have the yellow one of this, I’m really had a hard time applying eyeliner cos it really turned out to be messy

I love how it looks on you. This is one of my frustrations. I can’t put liquid eyeliner properly. I hope I learn soon! I’ve been reading good reviews of the hypersharp from Maybelline 🙂
