Sleek Makeup

now in the Philippines!
Public Service Announcement: Sleek is now in the Philippines!
I’ve long been a fan of UK drugstore makeup – scouring online retail suppliers for brands like Rimmel, Bourjois and of course, Sleek. The brand was my first foray into the UK drugstore or “high street” (as they call it over there) scene. I remember my first set of Sleek products – their brow kit, contour kit and two of their true matte lipsticks. Their eyeshadow palettes were super enticing as well, but during that time I wasn’t into wearing eyeshadows yet so I passed. This time, I’m ecstatic that they’re finally available locally – not just through an online reseller but the brand itself has officially launched in the country!
I missed out on the launch event last December (what with the crazy traffic jams and all) but I was fortunate enough to have been sent these PR samples to try out. So much excite (!!) for their matte liquid lipsticks that I’ve heard so much raves about. Can I just say how much I missed swatching and playing with makeup? Reminds me why I started this blog in the first place. I’ve been pretty distracted the past months but I assure you guys, I’m back in beauty blogging bizniz like no other bizniz.

Original 594
First impression: too shimmery for my life! Not even one matte to “balance” all this shimmer out? Major props for pigmentation, though. These are all one and a half to two layer swatches with no primer underneath! I can imagine how much more they’d pop out if I’d used an eye primer beforehand. Some are less pigmented than the others, though – especially the light pink and the yellow gold. Fallout is quite inevitable as these are shimmer-laden.
In terms of the product’s packaging, it’s very compact and travel-friendly. The plastic casing is sturdy, slim and solid. Inside, the palette is a large, very useful mirror as well as a small duo eyeshadow sponge applicator brush. Texture isn’t as consistently smooth and silky as I would like, some feel a bit gritty and chunky while some are creamier than others. With the right eye primer, these issues become insignificant. If you were to get a palette, I suggest getting one with mixed textures!

This beautiful strobe-to-go palette has three cream highlighters – a cool pinkish silver (Platinum), a high sparkle soft gold (Royal Gold), a champagne gold (Renaissance Gold) and a bronze powder highlighter (Antique Bronze). I personally like that it has a mix of textures in it. The creams tend to go on a bit patchy but once blended, look seamless on the skin. The powder bronzer has a nice, almost-buttery feel.
On my skintone, Renaissance Gold makes for the best highlighting shade and Antique Bronze gives a slightly subtle shadow, not too much a harsh contour which is great for strobing/highlighting lovers. It gives just the right amount of contrast so that the highlights pop out.

Lip Products

Gloss, Liquid Lipstick, Lip Liner
Ahhh, their lip products. The True Matte Lipsticks are quite drying on me but I love their bold colors and major color pay-off so I kept on with it then. Upon discovering new lipstick formulas, I said bye bye to Sleek since I found them quite heavy and patchy compared to other brands. The two shades I got this time are both striking bold shades in fuschia and coral. Fear not though, the brand now has a better matte option that I feel much stronger for now than their lipsticks.
The Matte Me Liquid Lipsticks should be your new BFFs. They are super long lasting and aren’t too drying as other super matte liquid lipsticks but still extremely pigmented. Still, if you’ve perpetually parched lips, this may not be as forgiving on you. On me, I found the shade Fandango Purple even quite smoothening. I imagine the lighter shades quite unforgiving on my dry bits, though. But Birthday Suit, wait for me. I shall come get you soon!

This is a possibly rude but intended to be helpful comment– so– here goes. I’ve been reading your blog for a while and the tone of this blog does not sound like you– at all. It sounds like someone else is writing your blog and is expressing their own personality which is different than yours. Very different. Or else that you took a course and someone advised you to write this way. M-m-m– don’t agree. Just be yourself. I understand that people get busy and doing a blog is a lot of work. Karen from Makeup and Beauty has been up front about her need to get help from fellow bloggers when she has her baby. Totally understandable. So if you need to do this, I’m sure your fans would understand. If that is so, find someone else who better captures your personality. And I sincerely hope that I have not embarrassed you and if I have, I regret it and wish you all that is good.

I like the idea of a more affordable highlighting palette. I want to experiment with different highlighters for strobing, since I’ve taken more of a shine to it than with contouring.
