Bobbi Brown Extra Bright Advanced Serum
This review is a long time coming. I’ve blabbed on and on about this brightening serum that this draft has been sitting on my dashboard for more than half a year now – but I can’t not write about this. It changed my skin like no other skincare product has. One of the biggest acne battles of my adult life happened when I tried to look for cheaper oil cleansers after I finished up my beloved Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil. The next day, cystic acne and pimples took over my face. I was helpless. It went on for about a month until I tried La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo – it helped lessen the redness and angriness of the acne as well as slow down the speed of new ones popping up.
When the growth finally stopped, I was left with acne marks that I felt I was bound to live with forever~. Until I discovered the Bobbi Brown Extra Bright Advanced Serum (that was in a goodie bag I won at an event) – which upon first use immediately showed promising results. First, let me tell you the ingredients — it is packed with Bobbi’s Super Citrus Complex a.k.a a cocktail of vitamin-enriched citrus ingredients including Unshiu Peel Extract (young orange extract), Grapefruit, Lime Extract and the ever-powerful Vitamin C that all work to exfoliate and reduce the appearance of discoloration on the surface of the skin. It also has Glucosamine which evens the skintone, heals wounds (acne) and increases the skin’s content of hyaluronic acid, therefore providing moisturization. This isn’t your typical serum pumped with silicones to provide ‘temporary’ smoothness. It’s chock full of active ingredients to really ‘treat’ the skin.
The serum is not too thin, not too thick, a bit runny but not watery. I use two-three pumps for my whole face but putting more on the area where I need it most. There is a tingling sensation during the first few uses but nothing too uncomfortable. Upon the first night, I experienced micro-peeling. I was thrilled! I knew then that the actives were working because I usually don’t experience micro-peeling with serums – especially since my skin is already used to glycolic acid treatments. 2 weeks since using the serum, I still continued to experience the peeling (flakes rolling off the skin). I finished the bottle in 3 months and while I still had minor remnants of my acne left, I continued to use the Extra Bright cream (moisturizer) (for the next few months) but just after another month since starting the whole serum + moisturizer regimen, I was astounded to see that I had almost no trace of acne marks left.
I’ve stopped the use of the Extra Bright cream for months now as I’m reserving what little I have left during sudden breakouts. I currently still have new bottles of serum to go through and while I miss the Extra Bright serum, I’ve no qualms with the ones I’m using now since they provide brightening and smoothening as well, albeit not as powerful. I’m just thankful I didn’t suffer another acne attack *knocks on wood* after finishing up the Bobbi Brown serum ‘cos if I did (or do), I’d be running to the Bobbi Brown counters to get it (and then maybe not eat for two months or so because it’s $$$). Still, the results are worth it (derma peels to erase marks like these cost even more!).
This Bobbi Brown Extra Bright Advanced Serum is one of my highly-recommended buys if you’re absolutely out of options treating your post-acne marks. I started using this without any hope of eliminating them, just expectations of ‘brightening’, ‘evening of skintone’, ‘glowing’ – but it did all these and even faded my post-acne marks. Thanks to the amount and variety of active ingredients in this serum which are superb.
I started seeing results after 1-2 weeks but it took me 3 whole months and nightly usage of the serum to completely fade my scars. Also, take note that my acne marks were “fresh” – not more than 3 months old – so the serum was able to treat them more effectively. If you’ve had marks that have been there for longer, I’m not sure if this could treat it as well. I suggest getting a sample first from the counter and see how your skin reacts to it. Remember, we all have different skin types and what works for me/others, may not exactly work the same for you.
Let me know if you’ve tried this serum – I’d love to hear your thoughts regarding it! If not, what serums have you used that gave you astounding results?
