Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
I can’t believe it’s been a month since I started using this much-loved skincare serum from Estee Lauder. I wanted to write about this the first week in as I was already experiencing some results but then pushed myself to wait until after 1 whole month so I can be thorough. The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum, ANR for short (or Vampire’s Brew as I like to call it), has a combination of vitamin and plant-based antioxidants that aim to repair the skin as you sleep soundly at night. The brand has spent a great amount of time fine-tuning the formula to make sure the serum lives up to its claims.
I had a major side-eye moment reading the ‘purifies your skin while you sleep’ claim. So enough enumerating more of its fluffy marketing claims, let’s take a look at the ingredient list instead (since I also like to obsessively research about these things especially if it’s something I’ll be slathering all over my face). ANR has bifida ferment lysate (good bacteria) that supposedly helps in cell turnover (yet no independent studies have been made to confirm this claim), Arabidopsis thaliana, a small flowering plant that purportedly identifies DNA damage in your skin and tries to restore it by transporting powerful and effective enzymes and antioxidants into the skin. As well as Tripeptide-32 which has water-binding properties and claims to have a protective effect against proteins that damage cells. It also has the usual Hyaluronic Acid for hydrating and plumping.

Texture. The consistency of this is a bit dense, hence 3-4 drops is enough for my entire face and neck area. The texture is a bit slimy as it’s not so runny, but it goes on very smoothly on the skin. It absorbs quite fast although during much hotter and more humid times, it will feel a bit tacky on. I felt like skipping this during the AM but I absolutely love the glow it gives so I’ve been using 2 drops of these on some mornings before sunscreen.
I am absolutely barefaced in the photos above, been up for a few hours but haven’t washed my face yet (as gross as it sounds) so you can see how the serum ‘repairs the skin’ whilst I slept. Okay fine, it was a month-long repair process but guys – the product isn’t just a slew of fluffy words on a luxuriously packaged box. ANR truly works – it has brightened my dull skintone, hydrated and plumped up my dry and dehydrated skin (from stress, late nights, etc.), tamed down the angry redness party around my nose area, easily dried out and faded breakouts in just 2-3 days and add to that – I haven’t experienced any cystic acne spells since using the serum. I’ve skipped out on using moisturizer while I was on this regimen (but I did use an essence/toner with this) and I haven’t felt the need to add it back since ANR does a might fine job in the hydrating and moisturizing department. I feel like even if I try other serums in the future – I might keep on going back to this. It’s that good.
Will this work for everyone? If you have a pretty solid skincare regimen and are dabbling into much stronger formulations and concentrations of AHAs and BHAs, then you may not see a world’s difference when you convert to this. But for those who have a minor skincare regimen and are looking for a serum to ‘wow’ them in their otherwise ‘boring’ or ‘drab’ routine, I urge you to give this a try!
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair is available online at Sephora, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. *Affiliate Links

Oh God, your bare skin is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! It’s insane! I’ve been using ANR for more than a year now, and I really really like it. I’m not sure I’ll repurchase the eye cream, but the serum? For sure!

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:23 pm

SUNNY!!! Yes, I’ve heard about all the good things of ANR from you. I was itching to get this way way back and you repurchasing this means a whole lot!!

  2. February 21, 2015 / 8:11 am

Your skin looks amazing!!! Ohmahgahh. ❤❤❤ I never really used serums because I think I don’t have a need for them. My breakouts are getting pretty bad. So I’ve just been concentrating on letting my skin be and cleansing it meticulously.

    • February 22, 2015 / 1:58 pm

Thanks Rayray!!!❤❤❤ (I LOVE THESE PLUMPY HEARTS BTW!!)
Yes girl, you’ve no need for serums yet. Enjoy the beauty of youthful skin! Just focus on wearing sunscreen daily (I wish I started when I was in Highschool!) and cleansing thoroughly and hydrating it. No meticulous regimen necessary!

      Thanks! Haha!

I’m torn between this and Lancome Vissionaire. Can you give me an advice on which is which?;)

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:01 pm

I would definitely go for this. Visionnaire is okay but it’s laden with silicones so even if it works (sans them), I don’t like that it gives you the illusion that “I really work!” because it instantly fills in lines and plumps skin with the silicones. I hope I made sense. This one still has silicones but way less than the amount in Visionnaire. Also, I like the ingredients of ANR more.

Wow, your skin is looking lovely! I’ve used this skin in the past and was so-so about the results. May have to give it another go 🙂

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:02 pm

I think you’ll only get so-so results if you have generally good skin already and don’t really need any miracle (so to speak) 🙂 I mean Jen, have you checked your skin?! It’s absolutely flawless!

  5. February 21, 2015 / 12:03 pm

So nice to see this worked for you! 🙂 Serums are the best! I’ve heard about this for a while but I’m always scared of breaking out ._. Also what do you think of the eye cream?

You can try it out first before buying, they usually give samples naman. Skincare’s really tricky, we all have different reactions to ingredients. What may work for me, your skin may be sensitive to it 🙂 The eye cream is good, but I feel like I can use the serum as well to apply on the undereye area as mine isn’t so dry naman. I need help on brightening more because I have dark circles 🙂

  6. February 21, 2015 / 2:13 pm

I have had exactly the same experience as you Shari! This is my constant companion and I keep going back to it once in a while for a boost. It just works even if i don’t use it regularly! Great review darling! 🙂

Also your skin is absolutely Stunning! You probably can skip makeup altogether now he he! 😀

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:07 pm

Divya!! I can’t believe it took me this long to try it out. I’m so happy I did! My first serum love is Bobbi Brown’s Brightening one though because that really exfoliated my skin thoroughly – my World War 2 acne scars faded and it’s like I had a facelift LOL! But then I slacked off on night time skincare and had generally a dull and uneven complexion with bumpy parts as well – that’s what ANR managed to repair 🙂 So happy this worked for me!

  7. February 21, 2015 / 4:16 pm

Wow! Your skin looks so smooth and poreless!

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:09 pm

Thanks aviva! 🙂 I have pores naman but the serum manages to make them appear smaller lang and also I exfoliate twice a week! If I forget to exfoliate and without the serum, nagh-hello world yung pores ko!

  8. February 21, 2015 / 6:06 pm

Wow at bare skin , incredible
I have used sample of this and love it , I may buy full size soon

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:10 pm

Glad you love it too Krith!!! 🙂

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:10 pm

Same reaction after 2 weeks of using this. I was like, “No, this can’t be possible. Im actually thinking of buying two back-ups already.”

  9. February 21, 2015 / 9:04 pm

yea I’ve been VERY curious about this for a while. and about their eye serum version. have you tried that one?

    • February 22, 2015 / 2:11 pm

Eye serum!? Not yet! But the eye cream is so-so for me. I mean, I like it but I don’t feel like I really need it yet. The eye serum (if it’s brightening!) sounds more my thing.

Holy moly, Shari, your skin looks insanely good! I love you bare-faced, you don’t need all that make-up, LOL. I have used ANR a long time ago. I really need to repurchase this someday! I can only dream of having skin like yours!

ALICE! You are too sweet ❤❤❤ And gurrrrl, you have flawless skin what are you talking about! Your makeup looks suit you because you have great skin to begin with and only need lipstick or mascara 😉

  12. February 22, 2015 / 5:00 pm

You have such beautiful young skin, Shari. The ANR serum is my skincare staple and has kept my middle aged skin hydrated and more plump. I always repurchase it and when I travel, I’d get the duty free super size one 🙂

    • February 26, 2015 / 7:24 pm

Thanks, Lily! It hasn’t always been that way though. It started with the Bobbi Brown Brightening serum which really faded away my horrible acne scars from a recent breakout at that time and then I continued with the Dior One Essential and now the ANR. Every time I slack off on serums, I easily get back the dull and acne-prone skin 🙁 Your skin though – consistently glowing. 🙂
