bobbi-brown-shimmer-brick-rose Let’s kick off this Bobbi Brown 1-Week Giveaway with the product I’ve gone back and forth the counters for one too many times (because it looks so frikkin’ gorgeous in pan!) but have always stepped back from purchasing because too. afraid. of. les. shimmers. The past months though, I’ve been on a highlighter rampage so I’m more than ecstatic to give this one a try now more than ever.  bobbi-brown-shimmer-brick-rose4Bbobbi-brown-shimmer-brick-rose3 The Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compacts are multi-purpose, designed to be worn both on the cheeks and on the eyes. They’re usually made up of 5 strips of shimmering pearl colors that can be used individually (although you’d have to have a really thin, tapered brush for that) or swirled together for a soft, blushing glow. Rose contains a pearl white highlighter, a soft bronze and three other shades on the peachy-pink level. The powder is extremely finely-milled and smooth, something I didn’t expect as I usually associate high-shimmer products with being powdery and a bit dry. Pigmentation is sheer and soft – just right for being a highlighter/blush. I mean, I wouldn’t want intense opaque pigmentation from this (nor from any other blushes as I like them buildable). Are you ready to find out what I think about the shimmer content? Well, they are tastefully and impeccably done. The complete opposite of what I initially thought. Despite looking quite harsh in pan, the microshimmers are actually very fine and never register chunky nor ashy on the cheeks. Have you shied away from glowy blushes because you’re scared of looking like a ball of grease? Give this one a try. I urge you. Rose is made up of particularly sheer and soft, light shades so I’m not sure if the colors would show up well on fairer skintones. But then you can always pair this highlighter with any neutral or rose/pink blushes underneath. So heads up if you want to get these compacts primarily for blush purposes, you may want to check out the other more pigmented compacts. bobbi-brown-shimmer-brick-rose2 bobbi-brown-shimmer-brick-rose5bobbi-brown-shimmer-brick-rose6 The swatches above are built up and don’t register as opaque on the cheeks. I wanted to show the different shades and how they are quite close to each other that blending them produces such a lovely, healthy, glowing shade of soft rose. If you’re still hesitant because AHHH SHIMMER!, do check how it looks on my face below. I swirled all the shades together (forgot to tap off the excess even!) and just swiped it on across my cheeks. I’ve a few big pores so I was pretty worried the shimmer might emphasize them (as most frosty, high-shimmer highlighters do) but it didn’t. I think if you over-do application, the pores may come out. I would liken these Shimmer Bricks to the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish highlighters, but these have a tiny bit less frost. If you like a more subtle, not-so-sheeny, refined look, then you may have to look elsewhere. bobbi-brown-shimmer-compact-rosebobbi-brown-shimmer-compact-rose2 SO. ADDICTING. I love that it shows up exactly how I want it to show up – not-so-in-your-face and glowy at the same time. I didn’t wear any other blush underneath, so this is purely the Rose compact in action. The foundation I’m wearing beneath is a Bobbi Brown product, as well, which I’ll be reviewing and giving away this week. All in all, the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Rose is a huge hit for me. I think I’ll grab one of their bronze shades for a warmer, more sun-kissed look. The shade Rose is a good starter product if you’re not so keen on opaque blushes or intense highlighters as it’s not as pigmented and out-there compared to the other shades in the range. If you’re more into a matte look, I’ve a Bobbi Brown blush one coming up soon so do stay tuned.

It looks so flawless! When I see people use these are when I pass by a Bobbi Brown counter, I initially think “Holy crap! Look at the glitter on that thing!!!” Never expected it to look as finely milled as this. Why do they have to look so deceiving?? 😐 I’ve also seen a lot of people using and raving about the shade Beige, I believe… A lot more neutral. 🙂 Anyway, great review as always. I always giggle at least once whenever I read your posts. 😀

this sounds pretty good for beginners or highlighter-fearers though.

It can double as a blush then, that’s a plus!

I’m excited to see the Rose highlighter being reviewed as I’ve always just seen the bronze one. Even my kikay cousins just go for the bronze. I’m more the Rose type myself.

I only have 1 shimmer brick and it was a limited edition one. It’s in Nude, if I’m not mistaken. I always forget about it, and it’s a little too shiny for my liking >_<

I think the Body Shop did a similar version, and I loved it 😛 I find that gradient pressed powders and “bricks” like these only seem useless on paper but are actually really great when worn 😛

Oooh yes. Back when I didn’t know much about Bobbi Brown, I thought they looked like the ones from TBS.

Oh wow, this is gorgeous on you, Shari! I’m a huge fan of Shimmerbricks- they were truly one of the original highlighters out there 🙂

  11. September 23, 2014 / 12:28 pm

Oh my Gorgeousness! I’ve always wondered if these were worth it, and I can’t believe how delicate they actually apply. I’ll have to pick this up next time, I’ve always been scared to even swatch it.

Is it buildable? I want to use shimmers but I have large pores.

I am not a super fan of highlighters because I have oily skin and i hate glitters. But this might change my mind. 🙂
