Bobbi Brown Week: Blush in Blushed Review + Giveaway

bobbi-brown-blushed For those who aren’t into shining, shimmering, splendid cheek products like the beautiful Shimmer Brick in Rose I reviewed earlier – I’ve got something for you too! I’ve noticed that Bobbi Brown blushes aren’t so buzzed about in the beauty blogs and well, I get it. The blushes coming out these days are all about the beautiful swirling, the risqué names, the shift to liquid formulas – anything but a solid, boring block of blush.  But amidst the trends and “innovations” in the blush business, nothing beats a great, solid shade for everyday wear. The one you reach for when you don’t even want to think if that lovely swirly compact would match your lipstick or your eye makeup. Or you don’t want to take an extra 15 minutes to blend that runny, liquidy “virtuoso” of a blush on your cheeks only to end up looking like you were putting on foundation instead. bobbi-brown-blushed5 bobbi-brown-blushed6bobbi-brown-blushed2 Bobbi Brown Blushed is kind of like a hipster in today’s mainstream world of blushes. Its no-frills packaging, its straight-to-the-point, almost sarcastic name, its transparent cover that says “what you see is what you get, man“. If you want frills and excitement, not to mention a more sexy-sounding blush, then you might not quite appreciate the beauty and simplicity of Blushed. The shade is a reddish pink with brown tones. It does have some very fine microshimmer in pan but once swatched, it doesn’t show up as pronounced as I imagined. It looks like a pure matte blush when worn. I imagine the shade to be suitable across skintones, but I imagine those who are more on the fairer spectrum would want to apply this lightly. The texture is very creamy and not at all powdery! I’m even stroking the pan over and over again as I type this because I just like it. It blends beautifully without any hitches or patches. The pigmentation is quite on point as well – it’s quite opaque in one swipe when swatched with my fingers. On the cheeks, pigmentation appears softer and sheerer but can easily be built up for a more dramatic look. Another note, no caking with this blush even if you pile it on. I remember one of the makeup artists I trial-ed with (for my wedding) saying that Bobbi Brown blushes are the best for brides (he then proceeded to show me his pro 10-pan palette with all the different shades and I just drooled). He says that they look natural, never garish. Well, I’m glad I’m finally able to concur with him on that statement (even if it’s been two years heh). bobbi-brown-blushed3 bobbi-brown-blushed4bobbi-brown-blushed7 So I shot an FOTD for this but mindlessly put on highlighter (Hourglass Incandescent Light) beforehand. So much for showing how ‘matte’ it looks like. I swear this is matte and all that ‘glow’ is from the Hourglass highlighter. Anyway, I applied it more heavily than I normally would so the camera can pick up the shade better. bobbi-brown-blushed13bobbi-brown-blushed12bobbi-brown-blushed9

Final Thoughts

Lovely creamy formula with good pigmentation and wears well throughout the day – Bobbi Brown blushes prove that there is beauty in simplicity. I look at my vanity and realize – the most no-frills products in there are the ones that I get the most use out of. I mean, maybe it’s just because I’m a lazy thinker on most days and hate contemplating which blush pairs with this lip or eye look. That said, Blushed is perfect for makeup minimalists – it is a versatile shade that one can get away using for a multitude of looks.

      Yes indeed!

It looks so pinkish on the pan, but the brown shows up when swatched. It’s funny because my approach to blush is exactly how you described it above. I usually rush through my makeup routine, so I don’t always have the time to color coordinate with my shadows and lipsticks. I change shadows and lippies, but I don’t give blush as much thought, so a versatile one is always such a good investment.

I love the colors of blush Bobbi Brown has. Pang-bridal nga. I’ve wanted one ever since the royal wedding makeup tutorials came out. :))

Me naman, my look sometimes depends on what product I want to use – like for example, I want to use this blush – Ill have to think pa of what lip color to use with it and eye look para not clashing. Or if I want to use this palette, I’ll think of the blush and lips. So I think it’s good to have a neutral eye palette, blush and lipstick – so whatever you want to use na bold, you have go-to no-brainer neutrals agad diba? 🙂

Thanks for joining the giveaway Marielle!!:*

I’ve been looking for a subtle, neutral blush color lately. As I’ve been going for dark, vampy lips, a neutral blush is necessary to bring life back into my complexion without overpowering the lips. Tarte’s Exposed is another one of my favorites 😀

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:59 pm

Ooooh, this kind of remind me of how Tarte Exposed looks on me except more neutral. Tarte is pink-er on me than I expect it to be!
