Shoppin’ the Stash

Hi everyone, still testing out areas in the house — as well as certain times of the day — for blog photos! I feel that this set is better than the last, same-ish area but different time (around 4:30pm compared to 1pm).  Umm, why am I even sharing this. I’m sorry you guys, my mind’s been filled with non-beauty things, I seemed to have lost touch on how to write a beauty blog. Heh. That said, I haven’t had the luxury of time to sit down and whip up full reviews on products. I have a few new favorites I’ve been meaning to write about, but I’d need at least a good hour to decently lay down my thoughts on those. Maybe after one more week, I’ll be able to get back on my blogging horse and ride the winds again. I also want to share how I’ve been less excited about new collections coming out. Partly because I’ve been a bit “away” from beauty blogs for a few weeks (or months?) now. I still check out every so often a few of my favorite beauty reads but those are more of the personal beauty blogs vs. the professional beauty blogs (Temptalia & the like). My general sentiment on makeup? It’s been on the down low since I finished my makeup ban at the start of this year. I realized how many small countries I can finish doing faces on (not to mention feed, oh lawrd ☹) when I was packing for this move. One big box wasn’t enough to place everything that I had a harder time packing them than any other set of items. I seriously thought — I haz officially gone kray-fish.

Makeup Play Extended

I know FOTDs feel like they’re just filler posts for some (or most) but personally, I feel that this comprises a huge part of my blog because well, it’s why I started this space after all — to share those makeup misadventures. To constantly experiment with what I have and reporting on the progress (or erm, otherwise) vs. developing a consumerist attitude and thinking to myself “Now WTF do I do with all this makeup….”  oldfaves3 oldfaves7b So, I guess what I’m saying is… I think I’ll start incorporating other non-beauty posts soon especially since I don’t want to pressure myself to keep up with just beauty when my interests are starting to vary. Maybe home slash interior, a bit more fashion and God knows what else. There. Just a heads up, you guys! Nothing concrete yet though, I’m just thinking out loud here.

On with today’s FOTD

Guerlain Turandot Eyeshadow Quad (review here). Woops I just realized, this and the next one are limited edition items not available anywhere anymore. Anyway, I like that this palette gives me an option to deviate from my predictable neutral look without looking too unnatural, you know what I mean? The gold isn’t bam super gold but rather a soft gold great for a subtle pop. While the redwood and reddened plum shades beautifully complement each other for a wearable non-neutral look. Chanel Accent Blush (review here). Ahh, a beautiful rose bronze blush I’m glad I picked up from the 2013 Holiday Collection. I like it for when I wear bold eyes or lips as they don’t pull any focus on the cheeks, serving just to frame them and finish off the look. It works great as a subtle contour, too! Guerlain Orgeuil (review here). A matte liquid lipstick in a bloody red shade I’d love to wear everyday if I could. It looks less intense in the photos due to the lighting, though.

oldfaves4b oldfaves6

For the rest of my face, I used the Ellana Intensive Blend Loose Mineral Foundation* in the shade Chai Tea Latte. For the brows, just the Majolica Majorca Brow Customize pencil. I also whipped out my MAC Brow Set in Girl Boy to compare with my at-the-moment fave eyebrow mascara Maybelline Fashion Brow and well… I’ve decided I’ll be destashing this MAC one soon as I really like the wand of the Maybelline one more. And because… just look at my brows, you guys. That is how not to put on brow mascara.

Also, to add matte highlights (yes, I’m obsessed with higlighting!) on top of my cheekbones, I used the Ellana Blush Duo in Light Roast and Butter Rum Coffee* — one of my favorite Ellana products! Oh and I also used the Dolly Wink Liquid Liner* which I find great in really thin-lining the eyes. For the lower lashline, I used my Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof (in a shade I forgot!) which is very subtle that you won’t even notice it had I not divulged I even had it on.

Last Set of Words, Promise!

Ummm, so this post turned out longer than I expected. To be fair, it took me two days to finish this entry HAH! I interspersed it with cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as watching cartoons with Selene while doing the laundry and unpacking more stuff in between. Such is the life of a full-time mom slash part-time blogger.

I can’t believe I just said I’ll be adding more content variety when it took me two days to finish this one. LOL! No promises though, guys.

Anyway to bloggers out there, I’m curious… How do you find time to blog amidst the daily hustle and bustle of life? How do you plan posts, photo-taking, writing times… etc etc etc! Need some serious tips here!

Wake up early on a Saturday morning to take product shots. If I’m lucky with time, there would be self portraits included. Eat, blog, and schedule posts. Assuming my Saturday is free which is rare! 😉

    • June 20, 2014 / 6:06 pm

I always want to take photos in the morning because I find it the optimal time for beautiful natural daylight photos. Sadly, have so much work to do during the mornings that it’s hard to fit in taking photos! Thanks for the feedback Gem!!

Makeup is rarely on my mind nowadays. Still trying to get used to the daily school grind. On a better note, I have a four day weekend! (thank you San Juan!!) I must say though, you look quite tired here. Beautiful, nonetheless. And your brows look kind of…bleached? Meh it’s probably just me. Such a great look either way 🙂

    • June 20, 2014 / 6:25 pm

Mehehehe you have such a keen eye, Raybear. I MAY have put a little too much brow mascara that it looks unf, OTT aka way too ugly that I feel it ruins the look. BUT (YOU. ARE. RIGHT. I cant believe my face manifests it. I tried to feign restfulness here LOL) was way too tired this day to redo them so I just stuck with it. :)) Thanks for the always honest opinions, babe. You know I value them!!

Also, hope youre doing better!! School has an endpoint soon so make the most out of it – treat each day as a chance to bond with your friends cos when you graduate, work and start a family — meeting up with them will be a challenge 😉 Breathe bebegurl!

Doesn’t look TOO bad. 😉 Must be from all the “moving-in” stress! A pamper day is much need!! 😀

i just entered my junior year and I’m already so stressed. Since last week, I’ve been sleeping at 1 am and up at 5:30.. Our Research Project is intense!! Right now I’m trying to find a possible cure for Hepatitis B.. :(( But I value every day I have left with my friends and family. ♥

i actually like fotd and i think those posts get the most ‘reads’ on my blog. and i really wish i picked up turnadot when it came out. so regrets!

as for keeping up w/ blogging (not going to lie, sometimes i write posts during my down time at work) and then i shoot lots of product pictures all in one go to be written up later. even months later. i keep scheduling posts for the future.

    A Beautiful Zen

    • June 28, 2014 / 9:32 am

Thanks for the input, Jenn. I haven’t yet analyzed my blog entries’ stats and see if my FOTDs get the most hits. I should investigate.

I am amazed at how you guys (full-time working ladies) pull off blogging! 🙂 Snaps!!

  4. June 20, 2014 / 6:48 pm

I’m a working mom, I have 2 kids both boys 6yrs old and an 11-month old. What I do is, I take pictures by bulk. I usually do this on days off from work. I choose the products that I still needed to review and then take pictures on all products in one day. Sometimes I schedule taking swatches for another day. That way, I have a lot of stock photos of products to choose from whenever I have free time to blog.

    • June 28, 2014 / 9:34 am

GURL. GALENG. Working momma with two kids and your blog is always updated! Hands down, Hollie. I used to do that – take lots of product photos then next time na swatches and FOTDs pero now parang I just can’t fit it in anymore with all the household stuff I have to do. I think I’m still in adjustment mode pa – hopefully I can go back to the regular grind soon. Thanks for the input!

  5. June 20, 2014 / 8:54 pm

Home/interior/fashion?? Sounds great!! 🙂 Even if you post about food or cleaning tips I’d still read, love & support your blog haha. <3

    • June 28, 2014 / 9:35 am

Cleaning tips? Coming right up!! Hahaha. So funny Eiles, baka mangyari yan. Abangan! Kidding :)) But thank you for the support – means a lot to me!! Hope to meet you soon!

  6. June 20, 2014 / 9:32 pm

When I’m in the mood to blog (yes, my problem isn’t so much with time, it’s more of an issue with myself and my laziness hahaha), I write every review that I can. I don’t mind if it’s not perfect just yet, so long as I’d be able to get my thoughts about a certain product across. Then I just edit it afterwards. Then I take photos in bulk 🙂 Well, doesn’t matter how often you update. There are some bloggers that do update everyday but produce half-ass blog posts, and me no likey. So don’t mind it too much. Just breathe. If blogging’s becoming some kind of a pressure, then stop for a while. There’s no harm in taking some time off and taking a well-deserved break 🙂

Also, I’m loving that lip color, babe! <3

    • June 28, 2014 / 10:05 am

Hi beb!! Thank you for your input. First, yes – I agree that if blogging is becoming some kind of pressure – stop na. But the problem is it isn’t e – I actually have so many blog ideas in mind that I’m excited to write about, shoot, etc – it’s just I can’t fit it in my sched at the moment (super housewife mode on). I haven’t lost the desire or motivation to blog – I’ve just (temporarily) lost the “time” for it :'(

      Thanks, V!!

  7. June 20, 2014 / 10:14 pm

I am still recovering from the grief of not getting my hands on Accent! :’-( You look lovely Shari! Beautiful as ever! and I absolutely love your FOTDs! Please don’t stop doing them! 🙂

Awww thanks so much Divyyy! 🙂 Sadly, I don’t think I would ever stop doing them LOL. Makeup takes my mind off worries and stresses so as long as I have stress, I’ll continue doing them :))

      • June 28, 2014 / 6:51 pm

I hope you never have any stress and also that you never stop doing these! :))

  8. June 20, 2014 / 11:57 pm

I’m a lazy blogger. I sometimes create sections for my blog (e.g. monthly favorites) and I never get to deliver because the lazies keep putting me off writing posts and then I just lose interest. Now I’m pretty relaxed and not guilt tripping myself when I don’t post anything.

When I feel like taking photos, I do it in bulk. I think of all the products that are needed to be photographed then I do it. Tapos I write na lang when I can and when I feel like it. When I’m in the mood, I can do 2 to 3 scheduled posts pero lately spontaneous lang lahat ng entries ko. Hindi ko na masyadong iniisip kasi I get stressed out tapos malulungkot lang ako, hahaha!

    • June 21, 2014 / 2:35 pm

I do this!!! I take photos lahat then save them as drafts tapos later na lang ang writing. Kapag feel mo na. XD

      • June 28, 2014 / 1:56 pm

        YUP! Me too!!

    • Becoming Sleek
      June 22, 2014 / 12:57 am

Ditto, ganito ang strategy ko! It’s really hard to find the time, and I just do it when the inspiration strikes.

    • June 28, 2014 / 1:56 pm

Hehehe. I’m a lazy blogger too despite having so many ideas I want to do. At the moment though, I’ve been really inspired & motivated to blog – but time escapes me! I used to take photos of a # of products in one shooting but now, I can only fit in time for one post. Le sigh!

But yes, stressing out about it shouldn’t be the case ‘cos it’ll bring about feelings of pressure and it’s a downward spiral from them on. Ako I go for a few days-week without blogging and I don’t kill myself for it because I don’t want to take the fun out of doing it – and make it feel like work, y’know? I think that’s what most bloggers go through – when they push themselves to post everyday / 5 times a week then feel burnt out sooner or later. Let’s chill lang, guys 🙂

  9. June 21, 2014 / 1:36 am

Shopping my stash is always super fun! That Guerlain quad is simply beautiful and I love that lipstick on you! Have a great weekend 🙂

    • June 28, 2014 / 1:57 pm

Thanks Jenn!!! 🙂 Hope you had a great weekend, too! And a good one again this week!

  10. June 21, 2014 / 3:10 am

Love this post Shari. Merong in-between the lines that I think I know, feel, and experience… Like everything is a mess right now. I’m starting to reduce everything, not just makeup! Commitments, goals, as in everything. I just can’t cross blogging off the things I need to do because I like writing (but I don’t want to write as a source of living and I don’t have dreams of becoming a journalist/ columnist or whatever they’re called.) Blogging seems to be the way to go.

I read somewhere that organization is not the solution. The solution is to reduce your stuff so you don’t have to organize. Maybe ganun din not just with physical things?

For now, I’m taking things one day at a time. Feeling ko I’m feeling overwhelmed because I want to get everything done overnight (like, bukas maayos na lang lahat dapat). SIguro di talaga namamadali. I’ll just try and do what I can.

PS. FOTDs are not filler posts for me. They’re the goal! Hahaha.

    • June 28, 2014 / 2:03 pm

Rae — same here. I don’t feel like I’ll stop blogging at all because it’s an outlet of so many things I’ve always wanted to do – design, photography, writing (even if it’s not exactly my strong suit), playing with makeup and getting to talk about it with ladies like you and I who like talking about it 🙂 And like you, so many things are happening that it’s hard to fit in the time to do all the blogger-y things. I hope you get the enlightenment you need at this phase you’re going through though – I can sorta gauge the ‘confusion’ through your tweets.

And exactly my feelings too – one day at a time. I want to do ALL THE THINGS~~ NOW NA so I’m kinda beating myself for not being able to do so. But yes, it shouldn’t be a reason at all to stop – just a reminder to pace myself and relax. 🙂 See you soon, Rae!

  11. June 21, 2014 / 9:05 am

I love face of the day posts. I keep meaning to do them myself but usually I’m so rushed in the morning I don’t have time to even consider it. I say keep on keeping on! They’re real posts! Not just okay but the latest thing review it and you’re done and onto something else.

    • June 28, 2014 / 2:04 pm

Thanks Kelly! I know – FOTD posts are one of my faves in other blogs too because you see all the makeup actually being used in action 🙂 I’m good with reviews, too but as you said – yeah, it’s the latest thing then I’m done w it – next!

  12. June 21, 2014 / 2:32 pm

Well, as we get older, our priorities change talaga. Almost 15 years ago, I can finish an entry in just one sitting and can go crazy blog hopping and leave comments, but now I can’t do that anymore.

Like you, the longest time I can finish a blog entry is from two days to even a week. For me, blogging/writing is a feeling. When I feel blogging, gusto ko talagang buksan ang laptop ko at magsulat na talaga kaso kapag may obstructions (aka may little one), i got no choice but to wait for another timing.

    • June 28, 2014 / 2:09 pm

Laarni, I used to be able to do that (blog, hop and comment crazy) 2.5 years ago lang when I was pregnant pa lang – so yes, priorities really do change esp with my ball of energy around 🙂

And about ‘feeling it’ – I agree. It’s hard to force yourself to write when you’re not at all inspired – kaya feeling ko ako, I can’t write for a living kasi paano pag di ko feel? Wala na. But with my blog – I have this motivation always to blog eh. It’s an ‘escape’ and it calms me down, takes away useless worries and anxieties 🙂 I just have to find the time for it!

Why would FOTD posts be considered as filler? Kaya nga beauty blog diba, para mapakita ang beauteous na face behind the blog (naks). And also, us ordinary peeps need tips and how-tos for makeup, because personally, I would not know a good brow from a not-good brow unless someone pointed it out.

In any case, an honest and personal blog should evolve with your likes and dislikes, so if you feel pressured to do posts just on beauty-related things or events, I think it takes all the fun out of it. It may even (gasp) make you stop blogging!

I’m lucky kasi I gave myself a certain date for starting my blog, so I have from now til that date to plan everything: posts, photos, research and whatever’s in between. Since I don’t have a big enough pinboard at home (yet) I write all my plans out by month and keep them in a file, so I have a very rough idea of what I’m going to post next year. I also have a couple of drafts and bare-bones ideas in there to jumpstart me if ever I feel like lagging behind on posts.

I know not everyone can do that, pero all you need is some time, a paper and pen, and the beverage of your choice. Hope this helps!

    • June 28, 2014 / 2:16 pm

I guess I read from some beauty blogs that they consider FOTDs as fillers. Tipong “hi, here’s an FOTD to fill in the gaps for my absence” 😐 So it was ingrained on my head there for a while.. ’til this post. Thanks, guys! Heh.

Regarding the blog evolving with my personal likes/dislikes – ahhh! THIS. I think I’ve been following so many beauty blogs (internationally) that I got this idea that there’s a format/system for what a beauty blog should be/contain. But then that wouldn’t be me at all and I would hate to have a blog I myself wouldn’t be interested in reading. 🙂

Aww good luck on your own blog, dear! I can’t wait to read it once it goes live. And I love that you’ve planned and researched na even if you haven’t started your blog yet 🙂 Thanks for the tips, too!

  14. June 21, 2014 / 6:03 pm

Love the picks! I totally love that quad, the cranberry shade is just so beautiful and that blush is sooo perfect for a nude cheek! I always blog at night before I sleep or in the day if I’m not out or staying home. All the post you read have been done a long time ago! I have a backlog of about a month’s worth of posts at any given time! There are weeks where I don’t take any new photos or write because I’ve prepared 6 posts already to post and then there are days when the sun is good and I take photos for multiple products! I’ve got no strict regime!

    • June 28, 2014 / 2:30 pm

6 planned posts – hands down! The most planned posts I had was… 2. :)) And I was already so excited for that! LOL. Amazing work, though Shar!

  15. June 22, 2014 / 11:48 am

    LOVE the lip color!! gorgeous!!

  16. June 23, 2014 / 1:01 am

Write anything! I miss your energy 🙁

Orgeuil is looove. And Guerlain has this promo na you can have your name printed on the lippy? I don’t know all the details I just saw a poster in Rustan’s 🙂 P.S. I like your highlight and contour on this face! Did you do any or maganda ka lang talaga?

    • June 28, 2014 / 2:33 pm

I miss my energy too! I hope it’s just because I’m at a stage where my physical energy is exhausted.

I was so excited about the Guerlain promo talaga but I thought free yung engraving – when I heard separate – parang ouch, more $$$ to spend eh ang mahalia na nga ng Guerlain na yan!

And Tellz, the contour/highlight is the Ellana blush duo I pictured above! Heehee. I wish I woke up (contoured) like this :))

Hey Shari- found your blog via theConsciencefund. Nice blog:) It *is* really hard to find the time to blog when you have a full time job. When I started a couple of months ago I actually blogged every single day for about 2 months or so ..but then I kind of ran out of steam ! It was too taxing with my job and everything else. Now I just try to put the content together asmuch as possible over the weekend ( take pics etc) and then put the posts out as and when I find time during the week. I think people have enough to read such that no one blogger has to feel they HAVE to put something out every day or even every other day. Quality over quantity;) Thats my 2 cents on that! 🙂

    • June 28, 2014 / 2:39 pm

HI dee!! Thanks for the sweet words 🙂 Im so honored to be featured by the beautiful @disqus_Prc8rd2Uyl:disqus – she brought in so many wonderful new readers and blogs I now follow, too! Yours included 🙂

WOW – 2 months straight blogging everyday! Even when I started, I wasn’t able to achieve that kind of regularity. I’ve been at this for almost 3 years (anniv on August!) and I’ve only blogged daily for one week or so? My most regular was at a 2-3 day interval 🙂

And I agree — it’s that kind of pressure that makes bloggers (I follow and love) feel suddenly burnt out about blogging. I say just take it easy and blog when you can – no pressure. Quality over quantity indeed! Thanks for your input. Greatly appreciate it!

      • June 28, 2014 / 9:20 pm

Aww ty Shari. Yeah I’ve found more new blogs and connected more with sweet people such as yourself, Divya, Julie, Melissa to name a few in the last few days that I have in the last few months. I think many a new blogger might fall into this trap – I was so focussed on writing posts when I started that I didn’t “stop to smell the roses” if you will:) i.e ..just take a step back to connect! Thanks for the follow and I hope you’ll continue to enjoy my posts too:) Thanks Shari. Hope you enjoy your weekend!
