Hi everyone! Just a quick entry as I want to share the most reached-for products during my 6-day trip to the pristine white-sand beaches of Boracay. I would share the makeup I brought with me but I took 3 shit load of kits (for the wedding!) and I’m just not patient enough to take photos of all those! I did post on my Twitter though the set-up which included most products (if not all) which I used on my friend who was a bridesmaid for the wedding.
First of all, let’s get this out of the way – YES, I WEAR MAKEUP ON THE BEACH. It’s not full-on makeup, of course. It’s more of a barely-there, sunkissed, pinched-on-the-cheeks surfer-chick kind of vibe, if you get what I mean (if you don’t, don’t worry I don’t make sense most of the time). But anyway, the makeup items I’m talking about here are just to add color to my otherwise sallow and a-bit-hungover face. I’ll briefly gloss over the items and link you to reviews of each (if they already have one).
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation
An oil-free sheer-medium coverage that feels so lightweight I don’t feel like I’m wearing foundation at all. Another hard-to-cake foundation, ladies! Those with acne scars that need major coverage may opt for Bobbi’s Long-wear Even Finish Foundation, but for those who just want to even out skin tone and something like my-skin-but-better, this is the one for you. I find this kind of like a tinted moisturizer with better and heavier coverage than most TMs. Full review soon.
Benefit Big Easy
Big Easy is a complexion corrector that goes on like liquid with a powder finish. Benefit touts this to be ‘better than BB creams’ and I would agree because BB creams are so thick, very heavy and mostly cakey. Big Easy is much more lightweight and dries like powder without the cake. I wore it on the beach for 4-5 hours before I felt the need to use the next item on the list, my MAC Blot Powder. It also has SPF35 which saved me from applying a separate sunscreen altogether (yet I still did because I’m terrified of those UVAs). Overall, I would say Big Easy is perfect for the summer days ahead! Full review soon.
MAC Blot Powder
Hit pan much? I love this because it keeps the oilies at bay without adding any pigment orc coverage whatsoever. Cake away, please! I’ve gone through one of these already (this is my second one!) and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who’s oily slash combi looking for a blot powder. Of course, it’s not a must-have. Oil-control films work just as good as this, I believe, but some tend to remove makeup as well so I don’t recommend it for special events or occasions. I like my MAC Blot Powder too much though – one of my favorite MAC products.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette
This Ambient Lighting Palette has made one too many appearances in this blog, it may have already reached its quota! A finishing, highlighting and bronzing powder in one palette – need I say more? I love using this to warm and/or highlight my face for that ‘glow’ everyone wants and talks about. I’ve had my apprehensions on this palette but seeing how much love it receives finally erases all those doubts. Review here
Lips & Cheeks
Lollitint has been a constant companion all throughout the trip because it’s so easy to use that it instantly awakens and brightens my complexion in less than ten seconds. Two swipes of these on my cheeks, three layers on my lips and a little blending to complete the job. I swam with this on and the stain remained on my cheeks and lips even after I finished swimming. Yup, it’s waterproof alright!
Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Fresh Melon
I used to avoid cream products (like those that are really creamy and not powdery) because I feared they were hard to work with. What was I thinking? Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge in Fresh Melon applies like a true cream but once blended into the skin, dries like it’s almost powder. It’s not powder though, but the finish on the cheeks isn’t at all oily nor greasy-looking. No shimmer in this as well so no pores emphasized either. It’s buildable so it’s definitely not as intense as it looks in pan. Needless to say, I really fell in love with this product when I was at the beach because the shade, the texture, the finish – all hit the spot for me!
Lancome Rouge in Love Rose Boudoir
I used this quite less than I did my Kiehl’s Lip Balm but for times when I knew photos will be taken, I used this sheer jelly-type lipstick from Lancome which is Rose Boudoir (from the Rouge in Love collection). It’s a non-fussy lipstick that applies like a balm yet is fully opaque in one and a half swipes. One of my favorite non-satin/non-matte lipsticks in my stash.
Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 in Mango
A staple in my bag. I hate using lip balms, to be honest. But my perpetually dry and flaky lips have cursed me to use balms else I would have peely lips everyday. One of my favorites is Kiehl’s Balm #1 in Mango because the moisturizing and softening effects last all day without need of reapplication. Plus, I love mangoes so not sorry if you do see me licking my lips when I have this on.
Okay, those are way too many words for this supposedly quick post! I’ll leave you with some OOTDs during my trip using some, if not all, of the items I’ve mentioned above. Hope you get to finally understand what I mean when I said barely-there, pinched-on-the-cheeks, surfer chick vibe kind of look, LOL!
