End the Year with a Beauty Box Bang

Hey hey hey, what is this – me back to beauty boxes? I actually got a six-month Belle de Jour Box subscription last year when it first launched and was excited to get the little treasure trove of goodies every month. I didn’t push through with it after that because I had such a huge pile of products that I needed to stop adding to unless I finish even just half of it. And so, my monthly affair with the BDJ box ended there. I was pleasantly surprised when the BDJ Team offered to send me their December box as their simple way of saying thank you for supporting them when they first launched. And as if that wasn’t enough, when I opened my BDJ package, I was beaming as I saw that it was Maxfactor exclusive. Backtracking to my previous BDJ experiences, I remember how I always noted that I hope there’d be more makeup products vs. skincare. And whaddayaknow, an all-makeup box! SQUEEEEE! 3 5

Stand Out Like A Star

I remember that the first legit foundation I bought after college to use for work was Maxfactor’s Weightless Foundation. Being a super-n00b makeup-wearer, the price and quality appealed to my “yuppie” senses (here in the Philippines, Maxfactor is somewhere between drugstore and luxury categories). I wasn’t able to explore further into the brand as I got distracted with other pretty, shiny things. So getting this box full of Maxfactor goodies that I can experiment with is long overdue. I’ll give my first impressions and show you a Face of the Day with all the products after the jump!

All Teh Maxfactor Goodies!!

*Creme Puff Pressed Powder in Medium Beige (PHP575) — A pressed powder that made Maxfactor what it is today. The formulation of this product remains to be the same since it was created in the 50s. It can be worn medium-heavy, depending on application. This powder gives a really matte, flawless finish. One thing I’m quite iffy about is the scent, since I dislike heavily-scented powders. *Facefinity All Day Flawless3-in-1 Foundation (PHP 925) — a three-in-one product: primer, foundation, concealer. I normally am dubious on all-in-one products that try to jam everything they can into them but I gave this one the benefit of the doubt. It applies liquid, blends like silicone-y cream and ends up with a powder finish. Did that make sense? Anyway, you’ll see its finish below. I think the sample I got is far too light for my skintone so it looks like I have a mask on. Sorry not sorry for being hardheaded and for trying to make it work anyway. *Earth Spirits Eyeshadow (PHP445) — Soft, finely milled although a bit powdery and dry. It has a satin, almost matte finish. I find it great at creating a slight definition for the eyes without looking too made up. 6C *Masterpiece Max Mascara (PHP 695) — I always like trying new mascara because I haven’t found that one mascara yet. This one is clump-free and applies thinly. No smudging in the span of time I wore it (although I only wore it for 4 hours). *Colour Collection Lipstick in English Rose (Php 595) — A frost finish lipstick that did not appeal to me at all because I avoid frosty lips like a plague. I think it photographs really well, though. And it’s better than most frosty lipsticks I’ve swatched on because it doesn’t accentuate or induce flakies on the lips. *Kohl Pencil (PHP 425) — just like a regular eyeliner pencil, not too creamy, not too stiff. I still have to tug on my lids though as it doesn’t apply as smoothly. After putting it on though, it isn’t easily smudged because I wanted to do sum smokey eye ~magic* and ended up with pokey eyes instead. *Glossfinity Nail Polish in Noisette (PHP 245) — beautiful purple color that’s up my alley. Will update when I wear this.

Final Thoughts

I think this box is definitely worth having for Php580 because it’s the same as purchasing the Creme Puff outside but you get all these other freebies, too. If not for yourself, I think it’ll also make a great gift to give your friends and/or family. *Thank you BDJ Box for sending this beauty box. No review was required of me.

AHHH you made me remember, my first foundation was also Max Factor! It was loose and the lady kept saying it was matte but it had shimmer and I wanted to stab her when I noticed it when I started wearing it. LOL. Great look! 🙂

Ooooh. Never really had any Max Factor makeup except for the lip stain (that looked like a Sharpie marker) that was so popular back then and I think they were one of the first brands that released one. Anywaaaay. Love the look! Thinking about signing up for BDJ box myself 🙂

I think I haven’t tried any Max Factor products yet. That Creme Puff looks interesting. I’m always in the lookout for new and good pressed or loose powder. It might be worth a try. The price seems reasonable 🙂

I think the foundation looks fine! MaxFactor Facefinity is the EuroAsian version of the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation (whew! what a mouthful) which Judy (itsjudytime) raved about. So does Lindsey (beautybaby44). Judy said the same thing about the foundation feeling like silicone. 🙂
