The One Brown to Rule Them All

If there’s an eyeshadow single I’ll splurge on, you bet your fluffy feathers it’ll be on a neutral. A brown shade, to be exact. So while singles aren’t really my thing because I’ve never even finished up a shadow in a palette, these Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow singles are just too raved about to pass up on. Sometimes, I regret being an eyeshadow convert (which I found dispensable before, oh those days) because of this deep and passionate longing to try the best formula invented. I swear, need to calm this “buy all the eyeshadows!!!” mentality inside me. Burberry Midnight Brown was another Europe purchase by my husband during his trip last month. Unlike the Tom Ford goodies he picked himself, this Burberry one was a request from me. I told him to look out for this and Pale Barley, which I’m informed is actually sold out everywhere (thankfully Nordstrom put it up a few days ago for back-order and I got one!!). I know I may have one too many brown shadows already but let me tell you already that this is the one brown to rule them all. b1 b2

The Sheer Eyeshadows come in a gunmetal magnetic case etched with the signature and iconic Burberry plaid. It is sturdy, well-built yet not that all hefty. They also come in that ubiquitous black velvet pouch that almost all these luxury brand products come with. Not complaining, though, because being a self-diagnosed obsesso compulso, I keep everything in their pouches as I store them in my Muji cases. The packaging looks luxe and elegant, yet remains minimal and simple at the same time keeping true to Burberry’s name. I also think the bottom part that includes the shade names and numbers has nice typography (yes, leave me to notice the fonts and font sizes used on packaging!).  1az

Midnight Brown is a warm brown with gold and copper flecks that gives off a very beautiful iridescence on the eye when worn. It is a beautiful, complex shade with multi-dimensional features that come out under light. I usually don’t wear just one eyeshadow color (I like depth on the outer-V always!), but I am comfortable wearing Midnight Brown alone. So, that says something already. Also, compared with some of the dark browns that I own, Burberry Midnight Brown stands out from the rest. The first swatch shows two layers of Midnight Brown. The second one only shows one swipe, as compared to the rest which I had to layer twice, thrice and four times even (Chanel, ehem) to get at least the same opacity as Midnight Brown. As for shade, the slight red tone in Midnight Brown differentiates it from all the other browns in th bunch. Closest I would say is the darkest shade in Tom Ford Cognac Sable.

Texture and Pigmentation

When I said how eyeshadows were so smooth and buttery and just blend like a dream? Well, Midnight Brown takes the cake in all those aspects. I didn’t know how smoother smooth can get till I swatched this. One swipe is intensely pigmented and applies evenly without any fallout whatsoever. Blending is a dream that I never want to wake up from. I can even do with using just my fingers and get away with it. On my FOTDs below, I only used my middle finger for application and blending. It seems to melt into the skin rather than just sit atop it, you know, waiting for White Christmas to come in the Philippines. Also, the shimmer sort of tones down when blended but still remains visibly complex giving dimension to the eyes. These flecks don’t stand out and steal the show at all. Rather, they meld seamlessly with the finely milled powder into the lid. 3bPlease forgive the haphazard eyebrows.  2b1bb

First, these Burberry Sheer Eyeshadows are definitely not sheer. They are well-pigmented, ultra-smooth, beautifully-formulated from the finely-milled powder to the smallest speck of shimmer. Burberry is definitely en pointe when they made these babies. I would have gone for a palette but based on reviews, they aren’t as amazing as the singles. I like how they can be used on their own without looking flat or undone. Midnight Brown is one of the best-selling shades of the line and I can see why. It can work across a variety of skintones and it’s basic but not-at-all-boring to be used alone for everyday. I would recommend checking this out if you’re interested to try your first Burberry shadow. *Purchased it by myself here with GCASH-AMEX Virtual Pay.

This looks sooooo good and so tempting! My wallet’s going to hate me. Haha! I think I’d go for a Guerlain or Dolce & Gabbana palette first before getting my hands on this beauty 🙂

Definitely not sheer and thats sooo pigmented and the shimmery is brilliant! looks so good on its own, it definitely should be made the focus on the eyes! I really love the shade rosewood brown, I really would love a few of these in the future!
