Eye am obsessed! The Sephora package that contained my much-anticipated Dolce & Gabbana eyeshadow quad arrived last week — right on time for this coincidental eyeshadow week I’ve been having. I was so excited to play with this palette that all other items I’ve been thinking of writing about had to take a backseat first. I haven’t seen a lot of reviews about D&G makeup which I think means that it’s one of the more underrated brands in the beauty world. This is me dipping my toes into Dolce & Gabbana makeup which will determine if I will wade further into deeper waters. My mind is set onto wading, but my wallet is silently but strongly praying for a no.
PACKAGINGYes, another brand that loves gold casing — a tiny bit more yellow than Guerlain’s gold, but way less than YSL‘s. The exterior is also less shiny than the two mentioned — it has a faded gold finish that is not as fingerprint-attractive as Guerlain’s and YSL’s. I actually like it, simple yet strongly-built. It doesn’t feel as flimsy as Chanel’s quads but it isn’t that heavy either.
THE LOWDOWNI picked yet another neutral palette, surprise surprise. I just think it’s the best entry to any brand’s collection. I’m torn between these two thoughts, though — “it’s hard to mess up neutrals” OR “it’s hard to perfect neutrals“. What do you think? Either way, I’m hoping to gauge the quality of the rest of the makeup selection with this.
TEXTURE & PIGMENTATIONWhile the shade selection isn’t unique — cos I’m fairly certain I already have matte blacks, shimmery chocolate browns, shimmery sandy beiges and pearly whites in my other palettes — all other features besides color are nothing short of perfection. The texture is ultra smooth, creamy and almost buttery (the Lorac Pro palette is my definition of buttery but it does crumble a bit so that’s the trade-off) but not at all crumbly which translates to zero fallout. Best thing is — every single shade blends like a dream!! Like it practically blends itself. Can you believe there is a matte black shade that does not have any problems with patchiness and blendability!? Definitely impressed with this. Pigmentation is bold without being too strong so you won’t need primers to make them pop. wore it for a full 8 hours without creasing or fading. Impressive stuff, really.
SWATCHESMy poor swatches don’t do this beauty justice so I will refer you to Sabrina’s swatches on these because she does the best swatches evurrrr — complete with comparisons to other quads in her bountiful & beautiful makeup collection. I absolutely love all four shades that I can’t choose a favorite. Yes, they’re dupeable but they have taken a soft spot in my heart due to their beautiful formulation. Forgive my gushing – I’m really in love. I wish all eyeshadows were formulated as perfectly as this.
SMOKY IN ACTIONI used all four shades. My amateur blending skills didn’t encounter problems at all. I believe the four shades go perfectly well for that super sexy yet subtle smokey eye. You can tone it down with just the two brown shades, but adding the black gives that added oomph. It’s also versatile enough to create something more office-friendly dainty and demure kind of look.
I’m impressed, Dolce & GabbanaNO WORDS. I’m afraid I’ll be wading into treacherous waters with this brand soon. I’m already eyeing on their blushes and other eye palettes. Please pray I don’t drown, lol.
I’d have to say that, hands down, this may trump my devotion to my Guerlain palettes. I’ve swatched all other palettes in the Guerlain counter and no other shades are calling out to me. Plus, some of them aren’t as beautifully formuated as Turandot and Le Bois de Rose.
Naturally pigmented resulting in great color pay-off, topnotch blendability and impressive wear time with no creasing or fading easily makes this palette worth every cent it costs. Add to that its minimal but luxe-looking packaging — easily makes this a true winner in my book. I’ll end this entry by saying that D&G is probably one of the more underrated brands in the beauty world.
