Review: Lancome BB Complete

I’ve always been apprehensive of BB creams, dismissing them purely as yet another hype in the beauty world. I’ve tried a few way back then but was never really impressed with how they work on my skin. Plus, I didn’t quite understand how they worked — if I wanted coverage, there’s foundation and if I wanted something sheer, there’s tinted moisturizer therefore I’ve always thought of BB creams as the in-between. Not purely a heavy coverage foundation yet not just another tinted moisturizer.

Lancome BB Complete is my first foray into the luxury BB cream kingdom. All the BB creams I’ve tried are Asian  — Etude House, Lioele, Skin79, Missha. It was in South Korea where this product initially boomed being hailed as celebrities’ secret to their flawless and glowing skin. But did you know it actually originated from Germany and was used to treat and heal derma patients’ scars after surgery? BB meaning blemish balm is supposedly a healing treatment completely erases marks from a dermatological operation.

The BB comes in only two colors, 01 and 02  — for beige pink and yellow undertones respectively. Since mine came in the Lancome Beauty Box I received from my mom-in-law, I wasn’t able to pick the shade as the box included the 01 by default. The consistency of the BB is not too thick nor too runny. It spreads easily and blends into the skin nicely  — as seen in the photo below.
You need very little to cover your entire face. Sheer, light coverage and not buildable. It’s not meant to be a foundation so you will need to layer on your concealer for your darker spots and scars. It somehow whitens your complexion without it looking too unnatural and ghostly. But then, you’d have to wait until this BB completely settles before finishing it with a setting powder to get a satisfying  result. I’ve experienced this with the Lioele and Missha BB sans the grey cast lingering after.

On great days where I’ve had 6+ hours of sleep, I can skip my concealer and moisturizer as this isn’t drying at all. Also, for someone a bit oily as me who has to blot at least four times a day, I’ve only had to blot ONCE with this BB cream on.

To be honest, I thought it was too white and freakishly grey on me at first  — being the wrong shade on me and having a huge amount of SPF (50!) but after letting it set on my skin for 10 minutes or so, it blended and matched my skin tone better. Light coverage but very radiating and brightening as if I have this certain glow on my skin. I will have to try the 02 shade which is more for me, having yellow undertones as maybe that one wouldn’t look too white on me. However, I do like that this shade brightens me up in a not-so-unnatural looking way once I’ve set with powder, contoured, etc.

I would NOT wear this to a night event where flash photography will be around. But it is great for daily wear especially with the 50SPF that guards your face from harmful sun exposure.

For a high-end BB cream, I certainly can’t tell it apart from my other Asian BB creams that are priced significantly lower. However, I am impressed with the oil-control properties, high SPF content and radiant glow this one particularly gives me. I would have to revisit other BB creams and see the comparison vs this one again before I can say that I will repurchase this.

I didn’t know Lancome had a BB cream! This one sounds really good, glad that it turned out well on you despite the initial ghostly white shade- one of the things I dislike about BB creams. Definitely interested in hearing your thoughts on other BB creams compared to this high end one!

I myself find BB creams a bit of a hit or miss. Yes they can be very difficult to match and make a small wrong move and they’d look horrid in photos BUT i really love how when you find The One for you, it’s all you’d ever need!

Very nice review! I’ve stayed away from all the asian bb creams because they are way too ashy for me, but this potentially could be something i’d be interested in. I’m using the Dior Hydralife bb cream right now and it is absolutely amazing, but very pricy as well. xx

This is an awesome review. It’s not often that I find a review with actual content. I’ll be following your blog from now on.

I’ve never been a believer in BB Creams but I think I’ll experiment on a few brands because of this review.
