If you’ve noticed, I’ve been the lousiest beauty blogger ever for a year or so now. I haven’t reviewed or shared any beauty products as I have in the past. It’s a result of contemplating on being a more mindful blogger. Ever since before, I haven’t really been the “Oh here’s what’s new, I love it, go try it” beauty blogger that always pushes the newest, the latest, the trendiest products. I believe I’ve always been a bit picky and only share my real thoughts and opinions on what I review.
There was a point I felt pressured to put out reviews because I attended all these beauty events and launches (that I voluntarily went to). But instead of writing about the events (which I rarely did), I wanted to try them out and share reviews instead.
So I guess in terms of beauty blogging, moving forward, I believe I’ll be an even more personal beauty blogger. I will share what works and what don’t – no bull. I realized I still truly love makeup and skincare – it’s just the pressure I put on myself to come out with beauty content that’s paralyzing. I don’t want to keep on pushing product after product especially since I’ve actually tamed down on my addiction.
Anyway — to jumpstart my beauty blogging mojo, I’ll do a quick swatch + review on three new Tom Ford lipsticks I received. I know, so ironic that I’m talking about mindfulness on a Tom Ford post… but that’s life! I will continue to blog about products I’ve tried and tested only so know that all my opinions on here are honest and authentic.
Tom Ford Boys & Girls
If you haven’t been following Tom Ford (I haven’t actually), he has released another lineup of 50 shades, this time named after 50 women he admires. Prior to this, he released 50 shades of lipsticks named after the men in his life from his partner to award-winning actor Colin Firth. I browsed through the list and tried to guess whom the shades were named after – to no avail. So yes, Tom now has a collection of 100 lipsticks – in every color, texture and finish. Plus, they’re smaller than the original lipstick tubes so they’re easy to pop in the smallest of clutches.
I received 2 Boys and 1 Girl lipsticks. Warren, inspired by the ’90s brick-red lipstick; Giacomo, a warm coral with a pearl finish; Ines, a medium dark plum flecked with subtle silver pigments. What sets Tom Ford lipsticks apart? Their formulation. They contain rare and exotic ingredients including soya seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomila flower oil. They have an ultra-creamy texture with an incredibly smooth application. I don’t like the overly creamy lipsticks, though – especially that feeling that you know you’re wearing lipstick. With Tom Ford, it gets the creamy formula just right.
I love that the Girls come in white and gold instead of the signature mahogany brown tube.
You can see from the swatches that these have a slight sheen but when I apply them on the lips, the sheen is more subtle and it registers more satin.
I didn’t think I would like this shade when I first saw it. When I wore it on the lips though, it actually grew on me. I’ve been shying away from coral pink shades just because I like nudes, browns and reds more these days. But it’s a coral that suits my skintone and I find it wearable. This is Selene’s favorite shade too – so much so that she asked to have it and kept it on her own drawer. My gosh.
When I swiped this on, I realized how much I missed wearing red! My go-to red, which is all gone now, is MAC Viva Glam 1. It’s an Old Hollywood red that used to be the only red I wore before. Warren brightens up the face without giving out too much “whoa red lipstick” vibes. I think this is my favorite of the three.
Ines is okay. Initially, I thought it would be my favorite of the three when I saw them in tubes but when I swiped it on, I don’t know, maybe I’m veering away from plums since it has been my favorite shade to wear a few years back. Or I felt it lacked a punch of berry that I was used to. I’m not really sure – it’s quite wearable though and something I wouldn’t mind wearing everyday.
That’s it! Gosh, I missed beauty blogging ha! Also, can you tell that Selene took these FOTDs? She saw me doing selfies and offered to be my photographer and shoot me – with direction pa ha! I’m so happy, you guys. I have an official photographer na! Anyway, which one is your favorite of the three? Also, do you still like reading beauty reviews? I would love to hear your thoughts!
