Christmas Decor Shopping!
…because Christmas in the Philippines starts on September
We all know Christmas in the Philippines starts when September rolls around. But during the past few years, I’ve noticed less and less of the Christmas spirit (or maybe it’s my age?) compared to the usual full-on holiday mode I remember when I was younger. Wreaths around the corners of our house, Christmas trees decked out in balls that my mom, sisters and I bond over and Christmas songs blasting from our boombox using a CD we burned ourselves. Now, it seems like the only way I feel Christmas is through the infuriating traffic jams and midnight madness sales that’s as ubiquitous as Jose Mari Chan’s Christmas anthem. Except when I’m reminded through Selene (and now Tristan) what Christmas is all about – that’s when the spirit comes flooding in.
Selene’s photos above – pretending like she’s in an enchanted forest and seeing… bears? Edward Cullen? Jacob? This little girl has so much imagination! I was surprised when she started making those faces! LOL. Such a character!
This is why we really look forward to decorating our home in full Christmas regalia when the season starts knocking. Selene, especially, loves seeing Christmas decors. She and I even put up our tree last year from scratch and let me tell you, it was a fun yet tiring feat! Especially with an overeager toddler who wants to help in every way possible.
We actually start shopping right about this time of the year so it’s not too early but it’s not too close to December 25 that all our energy in putting up decors will feel like going to waste. It’s also been a tradition for us to do our Christmas decor shopping at SM Home. They always have a fresh catalog of products to choose from annually and the prices are really affordable so you don’t need to shell out so much cash for decors. Trust me, I’m kuripot when it comes to seasonal decors! Check out a few of SM Home’s 2016 products below.
SM Home Christmas Catalog
Since we just use the same Christmas tree year on out (which we got at SM Home too years back!), what we change from time to time are the hanging decors on the tree. Last year, we went with different kinds of birds and balls for the theme. This year, we plan to spice it up and go with the sweets and pastries from SM’s catalog. Donuts, cupcakes and candy canes for a sweeter, more relatable take! Actually, Selene saw these photos thinking they were the real deal and asked if she could have some (LOL). I told her they were actually decors for the Christmas tree to which she replied, “I want to put those on our tree, Mom!”. And that’s the story of how we ended up with this year’s Sugar Christmas tree theme.
See? This is exactly what I imagined I would be seeing if we bought these decors. Everyday. This everyday. Ha ha!
For those who aren’t into Christmas decors, you can still drop by SM Home as I’m sure you can pick something from their regular home collection to take home for Christmas. I personally love going there to shop for home gifts for friends who’ve just gotten married or have newly-built homes! Their furniture selection as well are very competitive and perfect for those looking to up their interiors at home but have a set budget. Drop by their website, www.smhome.com.ph to check out their collection!
