Matte About You
NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint
If you’ve been reading The Misty Mom for quite some time now, you’d know that one of the favorite products I’ve raved about from NARS is their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. I personally found Laura’s version frustrating because after a tube of using it, I was convinced that I never really felt its tinted benefits. It was like I was putting on a moisturizer that didn’t absorb completely. But NARS’ version, it was perfect. I thought if NARS came up with a matte version perfect for this insane tropical, humid jungle we call home, then I’d be all over it.
That’s what I thought NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint was at first – a matte tinted moisturizer. But then as I read reviews and even tried it on my own, I found that it serves more like a light-medium foundation than just a tinted moisturizer. Honestly, the line differentiating all these products and bases are all so blurred nowadays due to technology. The NARS Pure Radiant TM actually qualifies as a foundation to me already, too. But I digress…
Freshly applied. Don’t fret if it’s not “matte” yet, let it absorb into your skin first.
This is 2 layers after around 5-7 minutes of setting + Concealer on the undereyes because it can’t cover my dark circles. More of a true matte, yes?
NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint is a beautiful, soft matte foundation that lasts well on combination skin.
Let’s talk about the seemingly boring but significant details – it has SPF30 which is great for everyday wear especially if you’re one to skip your sunscreen (don’t btw!). This is an oil-free formula in a sleek, black tube packed with antioxidants (Vitamin C and E). The formula also contains Rose Fruit Extract to minimizes pores and control shine. On consistency and texture, for something that has such a satin-like, velvet appearance on the skin, I’m ecstatic to report that it’s not chalky at all. Compared to Estee’s Double Wear foundation which is a true hard matte (you can’t smooth your skin on your face as it’s quite ‘cemented’ there), this one is more of a soft matte.
I find it very easy to blend, it applies smoothly and evens out the skin. It dries to a velvety finish without looking flat or dry (case in point: ELDW). I find it lasts a good 7-8 hours without separating, fading or creasing. The coverage is medium – enough to even out the skintone but not too heavy. I love that it allows skin to breathe as it feels slightly hydrating and still weightless. All in all, definitely a good matte foundation for everyday wear. For those who are extremely oily, I’m not too sure if this is enough of a matte for you (go for ELDW instead to be safe!). The only cons – it is filled with alcohol (probably to help the matte finish set faster) so those who are sensitive to it should be wary. Super love this, though.
