Wonder Pore Clearing Emulsion
10-in-1 Ulta Pore Solution
In Korea, emulsion refers to a much lighter, non-sticky face lotion that works with skin’s natural oils to promote hydration. It works on all skin types because it is water based and doesn’t clog pores. It is used after toner but before an essence or a serum. If you’ve normal-dry skin, you even follow up with moisturizer after. But if you’ve oily/combination skin, you can opt to skip the moisturizer.
Wonder Pore Clearing Emulsion is is a one pump wonder, maybe even a “half a pump” wonder. It’s because a little goes a long way for this lightweight gel-like milky lotion. After using it for a week, in conjunction with other products in the Wonder Pore line such as the facial wash, toner, and the tightening essence – I found out that using the palm of my hands is better than using cotton pads because the pad will just absorb all the product.
What I love about this is that it absorbs into the skin instantly that your skin feels super smooth right after. It leaves it feeling moisturized but matte. Sort of like a five-month-old baby’s smooth buzzoms. As compared to most moisturizers slash serums, Wonder Pore Emulsion doesn’t leave an oily film on. Plus, it has a faint peppermint scent that you’ll either like or loathe. Depends if you’re a peppermint fan.
If you have oily skin, you can use this to boost your primer because it is said to control oil and minimize the appearance of your pores. Minimize, not completely remove or decrease in size. So yes, silicones are probably in play here. I personally don’t shy away from silicone but if your skin has problems with it, better to try this first before committing.
Overall, this makes for a very good day moisturizer to keep your face hydrated and nourished sans the oily, greasy feel.
I’ve been wanting to try this since I have combination skin and the weather has been melting my makeup quicker than the usual.
Packaging-wise, it looks like the usual loose powder. It comes with a puff to apply the product and it was really soft and fluffy plus the holes for the powder was of average size so it doesn’t disperse too much when you pat your puff on it.
The powder is very fine and very white (!!) when you apply it but don’t fret, once you’ve blended it, the espasol vibes go away. Unlike translucent loose powder, this tends to be very white on the skin though so be careful not to apply tons of it. It can look ghostly if you put too much on.
I find that using a fluffy face brush to apply this is much better than the cushion. Because when you’ve finished your makeup and you use the cushion to apply this, your makeup transfers to the cushion. Using a brush can saves you on blending time as well. Note, if your makeup is transfer-free, using the cushion is fine too as it really presses on the powder on your skin.
The first time I used this, my makeup base was the Etude House Precious Mineral Any Cushion in Natural Beige and I noticed that I had dry patches on my face so maybe this isn’t a good match with the Any Cushion. The next day, I tried it with the Precious Mineral BB Cream (not the cushion one) and I didn’t have the same issue. It kept my face smooth, matte and oil-free the whole 8 hours.
I definitely noticed how I didn’t find the need to blot at all – when without this, I would have to do so at least 2 or 3 times in a day. I also tried this with the L’Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation and it also worked great with it. I guess it didn’t work well with the Precious Mineral Cushion because the cushion foundation already has sebum control (?) Maybe.
All in all, I highly recommend this to ladies (as well as men! because it has no coverage whatsoever) with oily skin. Especially to those who commute! A layer of this will prevent your makeup from being greasy by the time you reach the office as well as your home after work.
