Malibu Nudes Collection
Bobbi Brown SS2016
The Bobbi Brown Malibu Nudes collection is all about carefree and easy beauty of California’s south coast.
Old readers would know how fond I’ve become of Bobbi Brown – both the owner and her range of makeup. At first, I didn’t really find the brand exciting – but the more I dipped my hands into Bobbi’s products, the more I proved myself wrong. Her collections are always wearable with the right gauge of twist that doesn’t veer away from her philosophy. Her formulations are solid, dependable. I’ve had a few misses with the brand but it’s made up for by the great ones I’ve come across and continuously use and swear by. This time, for their Summer collection – it is all about Cali’s south coast cool and casual vibe which they aptly named as Malibu Nudes (let’s hope pervs~ who’ve googled those two terms and expect non-makeup stuff to come up don’t get led here!).
Skin Foundation Cushion Compact
The bold, black compact was designed to resemble a coffee capsule (as it does contain caffeine in its ingredients!). Also, the liquid foundation is completely separate from the cushion sponge until first press, so there is no fear of bacterial growth, if you’re iffy like that. The cushion feels luxuriously plush, I actually love the smooth feeling of it all over my face during application. As for the formulation, I prayed, hoped, wished that it would be the same as my beloved BB foundation – the original Skin Foundation Liquid. And I found that it is actually quite similar!
Okay so let me share my technology mishap. During my first few uses, I found the formula to be sheer – with almost no coverage! I didn’t understand. I thought it was a foundation – not a tinted moisturizer! Turns out, I was applying it the wrong way. Since I love the smoothness of the puff, I kept on sliding and wiping it all over my face. Turns out, it’s best (or maybe it’s the only correct method) to pat it on using the cushion. However, you may forego the cushion if you have beauty blenders and brushes you’re more comfortable using. The cushion is mainly for when you’re on-the-go, out of the house – just so you can touch up with it.
Applied properly, this foundation has light to buildable medium coverage. It’s quite dewy at first, but once it sets gives off a nice satiny glow. Not quite demi-matte, so this is best for those with dry-normal skin. Oily skinned ladies may find it too hydrating. If you give this a couple of minutes to set, it dries to a nice, velvety finish. No tackiness, no shine coming off (unless you used moisturizer or sunblock beneath that is a bit greasy).
For those of us here in Manila hell temperatures, powder goes on beautifully over this foundation. No caking or balling up! Longevity – on its own – last around 6 hours before fading. It stays put longer with powder and primer on (naturally).
The blush shades in this duo are from the permanent range but the duo shade offering of Sand Pink and Pale Pink together is new. I actually love Bobbi Brown blushes – find my review on one of my favorite shades called Blushed here. I find that their range of blushes are silky, creamy to touch made of the finest powder. Incredibly long-lasting – these last the whole day even without touch-up.
Pale Pink looks intensely bright and intimidating in pan or in photo but it actually lights up the skin nicely and quite naturally despite the shade. It goes on as a soft, luminous cool-toned pink color that you can leave as sheer or build for a more pronounced pop of color. I don’t usually like cool-toned pinks (NARS Gaiety was a miss for my skin tone) but I’ve learned to like using this. It’s also one of Bobbi’s iconic blush shades. Get this, it’s supposedly the blush that Kate Middleton wore on her wedding day. Doesn’t get any more iconic than that!
Sand Pink, on the other hand, is a plum-tinged pink shade that I have tended to gravitate towards more when it comes to blush shades. I’ve tried MAC Blushbaby and while that was a bit too ruddy for my skintone, Sand Pink hit the spot on how I wanted Blushbaby to register on me. This is quite pigmented so I use a really light touch or tap off excess, just to be sure. I’m wearing it on the FOTD below.
Art Stick in Bare
One of my top Bobbi products has got to be this – their Art Stick. I am in love with their Creamy Matte lipsticks as well, but I have this inclination to their liner-lipstick hybrids as well (review here). The shade in this collection called Bare has got to be one of my favorite ‘my lips but rosier’ neutral shade that I can wear daily. Great color pay-off and has a moisturizing yet long-wearing formula that glides effortlessly on the lips. Finish is a delicious creamy matte. Bare has slightly a less matte feel than the others I’ve tried.
Angled Face Brush
It’s my first time to own a Bobbi Brown brush and wow, I’ve to say – it is the softest. Its designed to combine the full-face coverage of their Face Blender Brush with the precision of their smaller Blush Brush. The Angled Brush has soft yet firm bristles that are cut on an angle to create a broad, flat edge for all-over application and tapered edge for more precise application. I find this perfect for highlighting and sculpting/contouring. I use this for the Bobbi Shimmer Bricks – it is perfect! I also use it for my other highlighters.
Face of the Day
