Checks and Balances
Frothy Face Wash
I’m not very picky with facial washes. As long as they cleanse the face well, don’t feel overly drying yet don’t leave an oily film on the skin at the same time, I’m good with it. It’s usually my ’empty-first-before-buying-another-one’ product, too. I can alternate between several serums at a time, but I’d only use one facial wash for months.
This Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash is one of the most invigorating facial washes I’ve tried so far. It cleanses well (but if you wear makeup, please use a makeup remover prior still!) and doesn’t leave my skin tight or dry at all. I could even feel my skin smooth and hydrated after, no kidding. From a facial wash, you ask?! I know, I felt the same. It’s probably from the essential oils embedded in the formula.
This is a creamy facial wash and you’d only need a pea-sized amount to foam up your whole face. It doesn’t produce as much suds though, frothy is truly the best way to describe it. There’s a slight mint scent that doesn’t feel too heady, it’s actually quite invigorating (that is the word of the day!).
Verdict: Highly Recommended! [/one_half]

Plantscription
Anti-Aging Serum
Plantscription contains 50 (!!) ingredients to combat the signs of aging. The most powerful ingredient in this serum is an extract from the bark of a tree called anogeissus latifolia. It’s a proven anti-bacterial ingredient that stops the spread of infectious skin diseases (which makes it perfect for acne). Origins worked with scientists from the University of Strasbourg and they discovered that the anogeissus bark increases the skin’s fibrillin (*nosebleed* but it’s a protein in the skin that keeps it tight and plump) – hence the anti-sagging, anti-aging claim.
Personally, I’ve experienced zits drying up almost instantly the next day when I use this the night prior. I don’t feel my skin more moisturized or plumper than usual, but it is well-hydrated. There is a slight citrusy scent that doesn’t bother me too much. Since this contains quite a number of natural ingredients, I urge you to do a spot test on your neck first before purchasing since we may have allergic reactions to some natural oils/extracts even if we don’t have sensitive skin.
Verdict: Passing this on to my momma to see if it’ll give her more palpable results! [/one_half]

Make a Difference Plus
Skin Rejuvenating Treatment
This is one of the most raved about Origins products in the beauty world.. and I finally understand why! It’s sort of a gel moisturizer (made for oily-combination skin) that hydrates lightly but also heals blemishes and helps fade marks with continuous usage. I’ve had a bout of cystic acne on my upper eyebrow area last month and I used this day and night for a week – my breakouts dried up, healed and faded quicker than the usual. The gel consistency dries to a smooth, matte finish – almost acting like a primer sans the silicones. For night time use, those with extremely dry skin may need a heavier moisturizer after putting this on as I still get a bit flaky on my super dry areas. Again, I do believe this is best for those who have oily-combination skin!
Verdict: Surprise love. I didn’t think it would live up to the hype! [/one_half]

Clear Difference
Active Charcoal Mask
Origins masks need no introduction. They have a wide range of masks that cater to your needs – be it the need to hydrate, brighten, control oil, unclog pores, kill acne, etc. Clear Difference Active Charcoal is the multi-tasking mask that aids in cleaning up pores. The activated charcoal acts like a magnet drawing out pore-clogging elements, White China Clay absorbs environmental pollutants and lecithin dissolves impurities. I’ve been using this weekly, sometimes twice-a-week, and I’ve noticed a marked improvement in my t-zone oiliness. You basically slather this on all over your face and after 10 minutes, you’ll feel your skin tightening as the mask dries up. I don’t put it on longer than 10 minutes because I am scared of over-drying my face. I wash off with warm water after. I’m quite happy with the results of this mask that I’m looking to purchasing the Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask which you can leave overnight for a massive dose of hydration.
Verdict: Best for clogged pores – from Manila pollution! [/one_half]

Gin Zing
Eye Cream
This is one of the best eye creams I’ve used that actually helps lighten dark circles! Can I leave my review at that?! I’m so converted by this eye cream that it has become an indispensable part of my nightly routine! I can forget moisturizer but not this eye cream! It depuffs and brightens the eye area with Origins’ proprietary mix of caffeine from coffee bean, Panax ginseng, magnolia extract. It also hydrates well leaving the undereye area ready for concealer without the dreaded caking. But most importantly, it brightens dark circles you guys!!! I’ve been asked by quite a number of friends for eye cream suggestions that help brighten dark circles and I’ve always had no answer for them. Now, I do.
Verdict: If you have dark circles, this is your best bet.
Have you tried anything from Origins? Let me know your favorites! I’d love to try more from the brand. If you’re from Manila and don’t know yet, Origins is here!! Their first store is at SM Makati, right by the entrance across Dior. They give out free facials as well as samples – they have a sample bar you guys!

I have the Clear Improvement mask – I’m actually very close to finishing it (finally!)! I love it but I’m definitely ready to try something new. I keep meaning to pick up the Make a Difference moisturiser, sounds like my skin could really benefit from it.

I am a big Origins fan and I totally agree with you on the serum. It is just doing its thing for me surprisingly. My favourites are the Gin Zing eye cream, night-a-mins night moisturizer, Drink up hydration mask and Charcoal mask.

Love the Gin Zing eye cream! It’s not sticky and has a brightening effect. It doesn’t totally remove dark circles, that would depend on the cause. I’m currently on my 2nd jar =)

Hah, I’m actually not that big on Origins as a brand–their charcoal mask was the first high end mask I ever purchased and I ended up returning it because it didn’t really do anything for my skin. I’ve also tried their ‘Out of Trouble’ mask and wasn’t a fan either, and my friend said their toner didn’t do much for her… l o l.
On the other hand though, definitely give their overnight mask a try–it’s definitely one of my all time skincare favourites!
