Bobbi Brown FALL 2015 Collection
I have a sweet spot for new Bobbi Brown collections. Unlike MAC which is constantly churning out collections every minute, Bobbi Brown (as well as most beauty brands) is more relaxed with its releases making it “easier” to catch up. Also, Bobbi collections are the most “wearable” for me. I’m just sure that there’d always be something in her collection that I would mindlessly reach for everyday.
So what’s this collection about? Well, let me tell-u-ride away (I’m sorry, I couldn’t help it!) —Telluride is a former silver mining camp and sits in a box canyon in the mountain city of Colorado. The town is surrounded by steep forested mountains with a free gondola connecting it to other cities. Bobbi Brown loves the place. It’s one of her favorite destinations where she escapes to to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The color palette in this collection is reminiscent of the soft, warm tawny glow coming from the warm, luminous light created by the late afternoon sun in Telluride. My favorite items in this collection would have to be the Lip Pencil in Sandwash Tulle and the Pot Rouge in Telluride. I’ve never been a lip pencil person but since getting this particular one, I have been abusing it everyday that I’ve already sharpened it three times.
Pink Dusk Lip Trio
The Lip Pencil in Sandwash Tulle, (Not So) Sheer Lipstick in Natural Pink and Shimmer Lipgloss in Pink Seashell make up the Pink Dusk Lip Trio in the collection. They’re all sold individually but are complementary so they’re packaged together in the collection. The shades of all three fall under the warm medium nude-ish pink category.
The Lip Pencil in Sandwash Tulle is such a nice “my lips but better” (*I proofread this post and mindlessly wrote Butter instead. My lips but butter, yes LOL) shade that just instantly awakens my recently “naturally sullen” complexion. The Lipstick in Natural Pink is definitely not as sheer as the name would lead you to believe.
It packs quite a good amount of pigment in one layer although not completely opaque. The consistency is between a balm and a lipstick – lightweight, glides easily and lasts a good amount of time. The shade looks very natural which is good for daily wear – I would call it work-appropriate even.
I personally don’t wear gloss so I can’t really say much about the Shimmer Lip Gloss in Pink Seashell – although I feel that it’s not as sticky or tacky as other glosses I’ve tried. It’s a light ballerina pink shade with very fine microshimmer that doesn’t fully translate on the lips. Again, as I’m not a huge lipgloss fan, I would wear this by just dabbing on the center of the lips to create that plumped up look.
That is just one layer of the Lipstick in Natural Pink. Definitely not as sheer as you’d think!
Also wearing the Pot Rouge in Telluride on the right photo. Love love love the warmth it gives! Instant contour as well.
Telluride Pot Rouge
This Pot Rouge in Telluride is a warm mauve shade that almost looks chocolate brown in pan. It’s stark and pigmented when freshly applied (see photo below) but it translates to a gorgeous warm ‘bronzy’ glow that looks like I’ve spent some time on the beach without overdoing the sunbathing. I like that the shade works not only as a blush but as a subtle contour for my skintone as well.
The cream blush formula of Bobbi Brown is that of a real ‘cream’ – not one of those cream-to-powder ones – which sets to a dewy finish without looking greasy. I find it really easy to blend with your fingers or any synthetic brush (if you’re not a fingers person). The Pot Rouge can also be applied on the lips although I haven’t had good experience with Pot Rouges on the lips because of my dry, patchy lips. They end up accentuating the lines and patches. I’ll definitely stick to using them as blushes instead.
I live for collections such as this one that offers inspiring stories behind the name and executed well in terms of tying up the story with the products. While I do love being wow-ed by bold and brazen collections, I find most of them just sitting in my drawers waiting for me to muster up some angsty feelings so I could wear them out.
The Bobbi Brown Telluride Collection is filled with wearable items that for some reason made me excited about makeup again (yes, I’ve been feeling a bit aloof with makeup lately *shocker*). But what I’d love to know… what in here tickled your makeup fancy? Share your thoughts below, guys!
