Moist Matte Lipstick Range
I don’t think I’ve encountered legit matte drugstore lipsticks before (matte liquid lipsticks aside). Most of the ones that claim to be matte still have a bit of sheen to them – I wouldn’t even call them satin, more like sheeny mattes. So upon receiving these 3 shades of L’oreal Moist Matte lipsticks from their Electric collection – I wasn’t expecting ‘matte’ matte. The name itself foreshadows the moistness to come. However, I couldn’t be more wrong – they’re the powdery dry kind of mattes that hug your lips and never want to let go. Swatched on the arm, they look like they have a bit of sheen but once swiped on the lips, out comes the drag that would indicate they’re definitely more matte than moist. I was quite enamored by the initial shades I received that I even went out to get two more (in more wearable, non-electric shades) on my own.
As I mentioned, since the lipsticks are the dry, hugging mattes, they do feel drying as the day progresses. Although, for some immaculate reason, my lips don’t crack or peel from these (maybe I’ve worked up my immunity for mattes, yas!!). BUT if you have dry patches in the first place, these can accentuate those dry patches so prep is very much needed. Wear time is quite average for a matte – it can last you the whole day provided you eat only air. A full meal would require a touch-up after but the good thing is it fades very evenly without the dreaded lipstick ring.
As for application, these are quite pigmented in one swipe and do feel light (as if you’re not wearing anything on. almost comparable to Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet. almost). However, Crayon Sunset and Orange Power apply quite unevenly compared to the others, Spring Rosette, Lincoln Rose and the power shade Glamour Fuschia. I would explain each shade in detail, but since I’m not in my usual blabbing mood, I’ll leave you with FOTD shots instead.
If you’re looking for drugstore powdery matte lipsticks, the L’Oreal Moist Matte Range is definitely one you should look into. I feel that they’re quite underrated and don’t get enough spotlight. Maybe because of their price point here in the Philippines – they used to cost PHP625 which is not quite ‘drugstore’ (I mean, add PHP385 more and you get a MAC lipstick). But I think they’ve marked this down to PHP400 which is much more enticing and convincing – though I’m not sure if they retained this sale price. Will edit this post once I confirm!
Which shade among the five caught your eye? Let me know!
