Work & Play
My life isn’t at all that exciting to chronicle. Sometimes, I’m just in my pajamas, taking blog photos, sending emails, editing, drafting posts, sending out more emails then rushing down to the kitchen to cook lunch – all while Selene practices her art skills on my work desk, sometimes even on my lap. Other times, I need to be out and about for meetings, errands, events, taking time off from Selene’s tantrums. Today was an extra special day because a shiny, blue Chevy Sonic was delivered at my doorstep to test drive for a few days. Did it make me hate Manila traffic a little less? Not one bit. Ha! But it did make me realize something else. Warning: this entry will contain quite a narcissistic amount of photos of my face that it can make up for my #FOTD slack.
I wake up around 7:30-8AM depending on how early or late I slept the night before. I always have a cup of coffee first (the dependency is da realest), prepare breakfast, check my emails, prepare Selene’s lunch (if I’ll be out that afternoon), go through my to-do list in my head while drafting blog posts or replying to emails (only to forget everything afterwards). When Selene wakes up, we eat breakfast together, I give her a bath then I take a shower after. I finish up what I need to do before leaving (during which Selene usually comes up to me, asks to be seated on my lap for ‘quality time’).
During this event-filled day, I dropped Selene off at my mom-in-law’s before leaving. Upon seeing the bright blue Chevy parked in front of our house, her first words were, “WOW, BLUE CAR!“. Her excitement even beat mine as she climbed up frantically on the back seat that I had to hurriedly install her carseat. As a mom, I always look for riding comfort especially when I take Selene with me. It’s the first thing I look for now – as I can’t have her whining at the back in her carseat when it’s crazy traffic and it’s just the two of us in there (her Dad is away for 6 months so there’ll be lots of it!).
During this day, I first had a meeting for a possible blog collaboration with a network. Can’t fully discuss anything because it’s still in the works but I’m hoping this will push through. It’s quite a refreshing kind of content for The Misty Mom. Still very much beauty-related, don’t worry!
From Tomas Morato, my next event is at The Fort. Instead of taking the ‘normal person’ decision which is going home first since the event is still at 5PM, I decided to think like a Northerner and travel (almost 4 frikkin’ hours!!) early than cry in the midst of heavy traffic later and realize I won’t catch anything anymore. The Sonic’s good handling control and vehicle stability makes me feel safe while driving from one appointment to another – yes, even while passing through reckless bus drivers who feel like they’re Kings of EDSA.
It wasn’t rush hour but it took almost two hours to get to The Fort. Love how my face went from chill to ‘move away from the side mirror bbbb!!!’ to ‘FML it’s traffic at this hour????’.
Ahhh, the beauty of compact cars – they’re a breeze to park! Absolutely had no trouble parking the Chevy Sonic no matter how insensitive the next space parker is (don’t follow the lines for parking, that’s why they’re there guys). My next stop for this day was a beauty event at the pool area of F1 hotel. ‘Twas extremely hot and humid that day! I’m sweating now just remembering it. But round up a bunch of beauty bloggers + add a newly released range of waterproof, humidity-proof pencils = there’ll be plenty of thoughts to be exchanged and shared that the sweat-in-the-nether-regions-inducing weather becomes negligible. Beauty events usually finish in 2 hours max. Any longer after that and you’ve lost your audience.
The event photographer that day couldn’t contain his curiosity and came up to us to ask us why we were drawing on our hands a.k.a swatching. He learned something new that day.
I Work, I Play
I won’t pretend I know anything about cars. Embarrassing as it sounds, I even had to park this five-door hatchback Chevy to the side going home that when I realized I was driving without headlights. It may have taken this car genius 10-15 mins before I found it. Let me just say that I absolutely enjoyed driving it because it gives me better control with the pedals especially in traffic jams. I can’t believe I’m saying this but guys, I enjoyed driving through the traffic using this Sonic. It’s compact, it’s stylish – I like that the backseat door handles are placed on top, beside the window – and it’s super spacious. The flexible folding seats allow for more space for our things – like Selene’s stroller, suitcase of toys, another suitcase of snacks (LOL). If this were really my car, it could even double as my vanity/closet/second-home as well. Selene would probably move in with me and turn the compartment into her Suri Cruise dollhouse.
I would definitely choose this as my first car if I could. Although I won’t be getting it in such an Ateneo Blue color (I’ve no school spirit, sue me). My color choice would be the beautiful White Diamond Tricoat (see here).
