Mat Magique All-in-One Matte Transforming Powder
Phew! That was a mouthful. I’m sure you’ve seen this powder do its rounds on the local beauty blogging scene. But what is it really and what are its claims that prove to be true? First, it’s all-in-one meaning you don’t need additional primer, foundation or SPF – you’ve got all of that in this compact. Personally, I still apply separate sunscreen because I think you don’t get all the SPF you need with just foundation/powder as you don’t liberally apply as much.
As for the primer and foundation part – well, it definitely has you covered. The powder can be used wet and dry – depending on the coverage you need. If you need medium coverage, you can use the powder as is. But if you need full coverage, you can dampen your brush or sponge a little before dipping into the powder. The powder is soft and smooth, quite finely-milled as compare to most drugstore powders but after I’ve dampened it with water, it tends to harden a bit and becomes rough right after. I thought I ruined it forever~ but then after a day or two, it goes back to its regular state.
I used the powder damp but not built up to full coverage because I didn’t want to look “super made up”. It can definitely be built up to that point, though, as I saw how it was solely used for all the ladies who were in the photoshoot launch. The best thing I like about this powder is its finish — a smooth, non-cakey matte. You can’t see any of the powder sitting on top of your skin, it looks like it’s one with your skin.
As for the 12-hour no-shine claim? I could only go up to 10 hours – the longest time I wore it – and I think the photo above needs no explanation? My eyeliner (or mascara?) has smudged, my lipstick and blush have faded but I’m still surprisingly oil-free. Do note that the powder has faded on the areas around my nose and mouth, though.
I think this is a great oil-control powder for those who are oily and combination-skinned and don’t want to have to keep on retouching repeatedly throughout the day. I haven’t researched thoroughly on volcanic perlite (although there is also very little info on it on the Net) but from what I’ve gathered, it acts as a sponge to absorb all the excess oil from the skin. It’s currently big in the hydroponics industry because of its neutral PH and water-absorbing features. Being a liquid foundation user, I like using this as a finishing powder because it doesn’t completely mattify my ‘dewy’ finish given the right amount – but it still keeps me oil-free the whole day! For only PHP 499 ($11), this is definitely a steal! Just look beyond the plastic fuschia packaging….
I’ve two extra Mat Magiques to give away so just comment why you want to try the Mat Magique powder below! Winners will be announced next week so don’t forget to check back here.
