Bobbi Brown Week: Skin Foundation Stick Review + Giveaway

bobbi-brown-foundation-stick2 What is Bobbi Brown Week without one of their world famous foundations? One of my most-used and favorite bases of all-time is the brand’s Skin Foundation variant. I reviewed it here and have nothing but raves for it until now. Consequently, it left me hankering for more because it was that goooood – my skin but better, as I touted it. This time, I’ll be trying one of the more matte offerings from the range, equally as loved and raved about – the Skin Foundation Stick. bobbi-brown-foundation-stickbobbi-brown-foundation-stick3 While the Skin Foundation Liquid is very natural and glowy, giving light-medium coverage, the Skin Foundation Stick is of the soft matte finish with medium-full coverage. Combination – Oily-skinned ladies, rejoice! This may just be your best friend, especially in humid Manila weather. Despite the coverage, it doesn’t feel heavy on at all. What is with Bobbi Brown foundations and their lightweight-ness? The texture of this Foundation Stick is mousse-to-cream like. Quite dry to touch, not overly creamy which means it isn’t a breeze to blend with the fingers (which I am quite a fan of). This is one of those foundations that you’re definitely better off blending with a buffing brush as it gives a more seamless finish. I use the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and Buffing Brush alternately with this foundation and they work perfectly. I find that it tugs a bit on the skin while blending, even with the brushes, as the texture of the Stick and my skin don’t meld well together. The best way for me to get a really smooth application is to apply this after putting on my moisturizer. It’s much more workable this way. The coverage is definitely medium as you’ll see in the photos below. With this, I find that I don’t need to pile on the concealer because it does a pretty good job covering up the dark circles on its own. Right after blending, I initially thought the foundation looks a bit too flat on me and almost to the point of cakey but after 10-15 minutes – it sets to a softer, more natural-looking finish. So don’t be scared when you apply this and feel like how I felt above, you have to give it time to settle down fully. An issue I encountered with this though, is it has a tendency to cling on to dry patches so you have to moisturize prior, let the moisturizer dry down a bit and then put this on. It will give you the most beautiful medium-full coverage that doesn’t scream “I’VE FOUNDATION ON, PPLZ!”. bobbi-brown-foundation-stick4 bobbi-brown-foundation-stick5 I have not tried this with a setting powder or loose powder on top yet as I quite like the finish on its own. Not a fan of an overly matte face, in case you didn’t notice yet, so I can’t say how it’ll look when topped with powder. Will it then look cakey? I’m not quite sure. Will get back to you on that one! However, I do find that I oil up on my T-zone around the 5/6-hour mark with this foundation. That’s when I either touch up with the stick (because it’s so handy I do carry it around my makeup kit!) or blot with powder to remove them oilies. Lasting power, on my combination skin, is impressive. It doesn’t slide off easily despite the heat. At the end of the day around the 9-hour mark, lipstick is gone, blush has faded a bit but the Foundation Stick is still kickin’. It lasts relatively longer than the Skin Foundation which I find slides off easily sans any loose powder. I still love the Skin Foundation, though for an everyday natural dewy look. bobbi-brown-foundation-stick6

Final Thoughts

Like I said above, the liquid Skin Foundation is still my favorite Bobbi Brown base at the moment. This Skin Foundation Stick, I like but since it’s more on the fuller coverage, I would reach for it only when I need it, let’s say, for an event. Despite being medium-full coverage, I like that it still feels lightweight and still somewhat skin-like when it finally sets. Over-apply and it will look cakey, so heads up on that. Overall, the Skin Foundation Stick is best for those who are looking for a fuller coverage foundation sans the heavy and cake-like feel. Did I mention it doubles as a concealer and is handy so you can “stick” (couldn’t resist) it in your bag and carry it around for touch-ups? Bobbi Brown also has one of the widest range of skin tone shades so you’re sure to find your match.

This looks like a great product but I avoid cream products like the plague. I had a bad experience with them feeling so thick and heavy, it looked like I had a mask on! I think “less is more” really applies to these kind of foundations. When I hear “Skin Foundation” I think that the foundation kinda melts (??) Or molds into your skin so it looks a bit more natural. Definitely not natural though, lol.

If I were to purchase and BB foundation, I’d probably go for the Skin Foundation. You love that so much and review is so convincing! Anyhoots, great review as always!! ♥

hmm this seems like a bit of work BUT i do like that you can carry it around for touch ups and that it’s medium coverage. i still haven’t tried any of their foundations even though they’re suppose to do yellow tones better than most. so sick of too pink foundations…

So true you don’t even need a foundation look at your skin so flawless!!! Try to use a dampen beauty blender maybe it will help with the blending as the sponge will absorb the excess foundation making it more natural.

AAAAHHH this is just what I need! The current foundation I use feels a bit too heavy for everyday use and I tend to get oily quick. Joined the giveaway! <3

I got to test a small amount of the Bobbi Brown Liquid Foundation (I think it was the Long Wear Even Finish in Sand) because I wanted to put it through the ringer in terms of lighting and wear time before deciding to purchase. Immediately, I was struck by how light the formula felt on the skin. Not at all sticky or cakey. The coverage, imho is light to medium as I had to do two layers to successfully hide my mild redness. Not a bad thing, though. I need a light foundation in my life because the thicker ones tend to feel uncomfortable in this weather. Impressed w/ the quality of Bobbi Brown foundations, so I’d love to try this one as well.

I loved the feeling of it at the counter but unfortunately hey didn’t have my shade in stock! It sounds like a good high coverage solution that lasts well. Loved your review! 🙂 xx

I owned the old formula. Now, I want the new one. I like cream foundations! I wore this to a wedding din, it photographs well, no white cast at all.

I didn’t notice the cakey issue though infairness, I just swatched it on my wrist and fell in love immediately :)) P.S. I just published a Bobbi Brown corrector review (written last week) and I mentioned I wanted this. IT’S FATE :))

Love this foundation, especially when I’m in a pinch and don’t have time to blend foundation everywhere. I just use my fingers, rub the stick to warm it up, and apply on just my most troublesome areas for a really full coverage yet seamless effect! I still have to powder everywhere through because the foundation is more of a satin matte finish whereas the rest of my face is shiny from the moisturizer I use xD

It definitely looks like skin! Your skin but better. Haha.

Ah yes, I remember wanting this because Wayne Goss featured this in one of his videos saying this “looked like skin” but Bobbi’s base product prices are extortionate, man ;-; (aka too pricey for daily use) That last photo with the complete look is GORGEOUS though!

I have a foundation stick and I find it handy because it does not take up so much space. I hope that there’s a shade perfect for me.
