Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipstick in Red Carpet

Matte lipstick lovers, hold on to your seats (or get ready to run!) as I’m about to share one of the best matte lipstick formulas I’ve tried so far. For some reason, these Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipsticks aren’t so buzzed about in the beauty blogs (as it should be). Or maybe I’m extremely late in the Creamy Matte parade but in any case, I’m still excited to share my thoughts on this particular tube of rouge, Red Carpet

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you know how I’ve just recently warmed up to wearing brighter red lips (a.k.a not MAC Viva Glam I). Red Carpet is a step towards that direction. Described as a rich bright red, I would’ve cringed at the sound of it had you mentioned this to me months back. Bright, you say? No thank you! But oh dear Lord, one swipe of this rich bright red changed my apprehensions on red lips instantly. I’m. not. kidding.

But then maybe it was the texture that amazed me. This Creamy Matte is exactly and aptly that – a deliciously creamy pigmented matte. Did I say pigmented? Let me say it again – this stuff is frikkin‘ pigmented. One swipe produces such an opaque pay-off that even if I pursed my lips together, the color transfers to the other lip without losing pigment in the process. Both bottom and top lips appear as if I’ve swiped on a generous layer of lipstick on each of them.

It glides on beautifully, hiding hideous lip lines without emphasizing dry or flaky patches in the process. A godsend for my perpetually dry lips that are just too picky with lipstick formulas. Too picky that I’ve sworn off a lot of beautiful shades because their matte formulations are just too toxic for my lips (sends it to a peeling, cracking level). On the lips, Red Carpet feels so lightweight for a matte lipstick.

However, if you’re more partial to the extremely no-sheen type of mattes, then this may make you think, “What? Is this really matte?” The Creamy Mattes aren’t like the MAC Retro Mattes that, how do I say this, are void of any sheen and suck up the remaining moisture on your lips to appear as a truly flat matte.

bobbi-brown-creamy-matte4 bobbi-brown-creamy-matte5

I swatched Red Carpet beside my well-loved deep brown-based red, MAC Viva Glam I, to illustrate just how striking and bright Red Carpet is. Another strong note of the Creamy Mattes – their lasting power. These can take on a whole meal and you’re still left with a fully opaque lip to last you another one. After which, they fade evenly and leave a strong toned-down stain.

Though not moisturizing (give me a moisturizing matte lipstick and I’ll gladly fork over my wallet), I’m thoroughly impressed at the fact that these are not at all drying. Wearing it the whole day, I’ve never felt like wiping it off because my lips are itching from the heaviness or the dryness. I’m afraid I’m in the stage where I’m thinking I want more of these Creamy Mattes and that nothing can stop me from getting more. Halp.

Final Thoughts

PURE LOVE. The Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte range is the solution to my love-mattes-but-lips-hate-them problem which I’ve been dealing with ever since I’ve started wearing lipstick. While I’ve encountered a select number of other brand’s mattes that aren’t too horribly drying on me, they’re not as forgiving the longer I wear them. Red Carpet is a beautiful, bright red that I’m not hesitant to wear out despite the brightness.

I can’t believe I really have nothing but positive notes for these Creamy Mattes – which is rare because it’s no secret I’ve more-than-problematic lips and always have something iffy to say about lipstick (even if it may just be my lips’ fault and not the lipstick’s). I feel like a miner who’s just discovered a cave filled with gold (and left wanting to take all of it home).

Have you tried any of these Bobbi Brown Creamy Mattes? If not, you should – especially if you can’t eat up on the mattes because of the dragging and drying effects.

Is this the one you’re wearing on your “misty tab” (pic) sidebar? There on the upper right side of your page. Hehehe:)

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:50 pm

YES INDEED! Love it! So observant, gurl!! :*

  2. September 26, 2014 / 7:35 am

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this!!! I only have “True Pink” from Rae! I agree that it deserves more praises, because the formula is perfect!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:50 pm

The formula noh?! KALOKA!!! 🙂 I bet this would look sizzlin’ on you, Juvy!

  3. September 26, 2014 / 7:36 am

I can’t get over how pretty this lipstick is! Soooo pretty from the sleek packaging, to the color, swatched on your arm, compared to Viva Glam, on your lips ahhhh looks amazing 🙂 rock it, girl. Also had fun reading your whole take on its pigmentation haha. MAC Matte lippies have always worked well for me so I’m excited on how this will work out since you stressed on its moisturising power a lot.

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:48 pm

THANK YOU THANK YOU Justine! If your lips can tolerate MAC mattes, you probably won’t see this as how I see it hehe 🙂 But still, it’s a good matte range! They’re very unlike the MAC mattes though that drag, these have far less drag and glide on smoothly 🙂 so jealous your lips aren’t sensitive/picky!!

It looks perfect on you! I can totally relate to your love-mattes-but-lips-hate-them problem which I’ve been also dealing for the longest time. I guess I’ve found the perfect lipstick for me in this Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipsticks!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:47 pm

Thanks Thea! 🙂 You should get to try this even in counter – you’ll be amazed sa formula! 🙂

  5. September 26, 2014 / 10:06 am

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:46 pm

Thanks Dee!!! 🙂 Let’s rock these power reds more together!

  6. September 26, 2014 / 10:14 am

Oh my, this shade is STUNNING! The formula sounds to die for as well. I’m loving that there are so many matte finish lip products coming out without the dryness and are instead super creamy!

    Tasha // shiwashiful.

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:46 pm

Not a lot, surprisingly! Still find a lot of mattes drying 🙁 But this one – I’m good with BB’s Creamy mattes!

  7. September 26, 2014 / 11:08 am

I’m so happy you’re finally starting to wear more red lipstick! They suit you so well 🙂 this Bobbi Brown creamy matte lipstick looks great on you – but I’d have to say nothing beats how Viva Glam I looks on you! Have you tried wearing MAC Diva? I asked my dad to get a tube for me in Canada and I can’t wait til he comes back so I could finally wear it!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:45 pm

Awww thank Erika! 🙂 Heee! Too sweet! I’m slowly warming up to it ah! Love the ‘confidence’ it gives off. Parang it comes with the shade eh! And yes, I’ve tried Diva from a blogger friend and super niiiice!! You reminded me again now 🙂 I’m sure it’ll look fierce on you! Cant wait to see how you wear it!

You look so gorgeous in the pics especially in the last one! 🙂
I haven’t tried their creamy mattes but I have the rich lip color in cosmic raspberry, I have to agree, hindi nga drying ang bobbi brown lipsticks. 🙂

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:42 pm

Aww thank you meg! 🙂 And I agree – I’ve tried the Rich Lip Color line too and they’re not drying on the lips either! You should try the Creamy Mattes, Meg!! And love the shade you got pala, Cosmic Raspberry!

  9. September 26, 2014 / 12:41 pm

Hahhaa! I’m glad you didn’t feel any need to wipe it off because it IS STUNNING! I love the mid tone to it, not as dark as the Mac but it’s so stunning, it has this old hollywood sort of look! It’s beautiful on you Shari, I would totally love one of these in my stash!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:40 pm

It’s definitely closer to Ruby Woo than Viva Glam I but less bright and blue than Ruby Woo. Not to mention not a moisture-sucker! LOL. Thanks Sharlynn! I bet this would look GREAT on you!!!

  10. September 26, 2014 / 1:19 pm

Oh this shade and formula is all kinds of amazing!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:39 pm

  11. September 26, 2014 / 2:26 pm

shari its so beautiful grabe. it sounds like the formula is the same as UD’s not so matte matte lipsticks & the Burberry creamy mattes. i ordered crushed plum weeks ago, im even more excited na tuloy to get it na <3

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:39 pm

Oh UD’s! I’m so happy I skipped that one – everyone complained how drying it was – even those who dont have super dry lips! Have yet to try Burberry lipsticks – I’m back to my lipstick excitement stage so I may order a few ones. And yes, good choice on Crushed Plum – I tried it on months ago and was hooked on the formula! But yah, that was the time I got “sawa” with lipsticks so I passed muna.Cant wait to see it on you!

Matte and red is ny absolute favorjte lipstick. Pretty sure you knkw that by now. 😉 WAAAHHHH I hope I get this!!♥♥♥

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:37 pm

YES I DO BEBEGURL! Good luck!!

  13. September 26, 2014 / 7:07 pm

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte is the best matte lipstick ever created! I’d love to try more colors. So far I’ve tried True Pink, Crushed Plum, and Pink Lily.

I’d love to try more (Razzberry, Hot, Tawny Pink, Jenna, and Warm Beige) but all of them are out of stock since forever (Rustans Makati). The colors they have left are all not flattering on my skin tone (a super pale one, a brown, and a muted tangerine). I think they still have Red Carpet but I know I won’t pick it up often.

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:37 pm

Crushed Plum is the only one in my IMMEDIATE to-get list. The other shades I’ve tried and well aren’t so unique in my stash but would love to get them for the formula! I first have to let go of the non-matte counterparts because HOARDING. : Haha.

I’m super eyeing the Charlotte Tillbury Matte Revolution lipsticks though. 🙂 Not even gonna go take a peek at MAC’s new matte releases.

      • September 29, 2014 / 5:37 pm

Me too!!! Wala pa ata sa Nordstrom and Net-A-Porter. Pero, I’m deliberately not looking in those sites because I’m trying not to buy anything from October to December. Buti na lang hindi limited edition. But I bought one quad. Hope it’s good.

  14. September 26, 2014 / 7:14 pm

oo you really selling this to me. mattes are totally coming this fall with the new maybelline and mac launches. my favourite mattes so far have been from nyx. great and affordable. if i ever finish my tube of “perfect red” from nyx i’ll have to check out the bobbi brown ones!

    A Beautiful Zen

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:27 pm

I might swatch those new MAC mattes but 90% of them dont sit well with my lips so I’m not too optimistic. The maybelline ones, I’m hoping are good though!! Never tried a Maybelline matte lipstick yet, so I’m excited for those 🙂

  15. September 27, 2014 / 12:29 am

This shade is lovely. I’m a sucker for bold lips nowadays. I’m still learning my preferences with mattes as I only started wearing them two years ago.. and not even very often :/

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:26 pm

Me too – lipsticks in general actually – at pinagpilitan ko yung mattes on my lips then and well, ayan – I ended up with perpetually dry, cracking, peeling lips. 🙁 You a sucker for bold lips COS you look soooo good with any bold lip color! No one can rock different shades as effortlessly as you, Tellie. No joke.

  16. September 27, 2014 / 2:00 am

This is such a pretty red on you! Looks like a very wearable matte formula- nice to hear it’s not drying 🙂

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:23 pm

      Not at all, Jenn! 🙂

  17. September 27, 2014 / 7:21 am

Oh my god I am in love with this color huhuhu

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:22 pm

Is it YOU or is it SOOO YOU? Hehe! Ako naman, will buy Crushed Plum na talaga!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:22 pm

I bet it’ll look great on you, Pauline 😉

    September 27, 2014 / 8:33 pm

I have tried Bobbi Brown’s Rich Lip color and the formula is good and not drying at all! Will definitely try this soon!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:21 pm

I’ve tried the Rich Lip Color line too and like it as well! Not so creamy, semi-matte and yes, not drying!

  19. September 28, 2014 / 3:12 am

CREAMY MATTE??? DIDN’T EVEN THINK THAT WAS POSSIBLE? I’ve been eyeing some of BB’s lipsticks as of late, ever since I found out she does a shade named “Guava” (also eyeing ‘Rosy’. Definitely going to have to swatch one of the creamy mattes next time, though I wouldn’t be surprised if moisturizing mattes come out soon. MAKEUP TECHNOLOGY, MAN D:

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:14 pm

I would buy every single shade of it – moisturizing mattes HAH! No questions asked, take all my $$$$$. I’ll even buy the green shade, fine. Haha. Oh Bobbi Brown’s Guava lipstick – such a darn pretty color you can’t go wrong with. I’ve had good experiences with some shades in the Rich Lip Color line, though I still love the Creamy Mattes more.

    September 28, 2014 / 2:17 pm

Love the creamy matte finish! And I ke that it is so pigmented. It would be such a great buy!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:06 pm

      Indeed, Janina 😉

  21. September 28, 2014 / 9:49 pm

Gorgeous! I like better than the MAC. The color looks stunning on you. And yeah, creamy and matte sounds contradictory, but this proves that it can be done 😀

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:05 pm

MAC has great colors, hands down! But most formulas just make my lips crack HUHU. Which is why I love this creamy matte hybrid. 🙂

  22. September 29, 2014 / 8:27 am

Oh what a lovely shade this is on you, and it sounds like an absolute dream! I’ve been wanting to try more matte shades this fall/winter and this one is a stunner!

    • September 29, 2014 / 4:05 pm

Thank you Kristen!!! I always love hearing your thoughts 🙂 What matte lipsticks do you have btw? Its so rare for me to find a matte formula for my picky lips!

      • October 1, 2014 / 11:27 am

Why thank you, Shari! I always love reading your posts!
Re: Matte lipsticks – same here! The only one that springs to mind is NARS Schiap but it’s so damn bold that I’ve only worn it a few times. The formula is pretty lovely though. I need to break it out and get out of my “quiet lips” habit, lol!

        • October 1, 2014 / 12:18 pm

Schiap is soooo gorgeous – the only thing that kept me from buying it is exactly what you mentioned – it’s so damn bold I know I wont get a lot of wear out of it. And between bold reds and pinks, I tend to go for bold reds right now. I love my pinks but I reserve them for not-so-bold, everyday wear kind of shades.

  23. September 29, 2014 / 5:46 pm

This is sooo gorgeous! I haven’t tried any Bobbi Brown lippies yet but I might because of this post. Or a Nars perhaps? Which is better?

    • October 1, 2014 / 12:15 pm

Bobbi Brown Creamy Mattes are above all the matte ranges I’ve tried.. so far! The NARS pure mattes are good, too but drying on my lips over time. Start with a Bobbi Brown matte, promise, you won’t go wrong with it!

  24. September 29, 2014 / 8:47 pm

The shade is to die for! It looks super fab on you, Shari.

    • October 1, 2014 / 12:15 pm

Thanks for thinking so, Ari!!! It’s vavavoom red!

  25. Katsy Faustino
    September 30, 2014 / 2:05 am

Between your review and Rae’s frequent loving shoutout to the Creamy Mattes, I think I really have to get one already!

Red Carpet looks amazing! Hopefully it would suit me although I have one too many reds at the moment

    • October 1, 2014 / 12:16 pm

Bobbi Brown Crushed Plum = both Rae and I’s favorites (even if I dont own it haha. I tried it on but didnt buy at the time because I was “sawa” with lipstick. Now I wanna collect them all HAHA). You should try! It’s on a league of its own 😉

      • Katsy Faustino
        October 3, 2014 / 12:58 am

Rae has me adding lipsticks to my wishlist! Lipstick Queen, Bobbi Brown, now she’s raving about Nars Audacious. Oh my wallet!! LOL

These colours are perfection! Really makes me want to try them out 😉 Thanks for sharing

    Rien de Rien

  27. January 7, 2015 / 12:33 pm

Pretty!! You make me want to go to the mall now! I wasn’t able to get my hands on any Nars Audacious lipstick, but I feel like I could buy this one any day soon!
