This month I found myself reaching for mostly slap-and-go
products when I don’t have the luxury of time to do a full face. When I post Instagram
breakdowns, that means I have more than enough time to do a full face and
actually arrange the stuff into an “organized mess
“, figure out the best lighting and then take a few snaps of the products. For all the other times, a.k.a when I have to give my daughter a bath in between cooking lunch and preparing to leave for an event or a meeting/errand, these were my BFFs.
Pixi Beauty Flawless Beauty Primer
*. This for me is just gold
. Especially since I’m not a fan of siliconey primers. I’ve also never been wow-ed
by primer before (except the Guerlain Meteorites one which I vowed never to spend $$$ on again because ugh, it’s not sustainable), but Pixi managed to make me believe in primer
benefits again the first time I slapped this on. It leaves the skin glowing without looking oily or greasy. I actually prefer using it on its own most of the time with just undereye concealer.
On the photo below, I just wore the primer, Collection
concealer for my undereyes and Dior Skinflash on top of my cheekbones. No other base product or powder on top, just so I could test if it could hold up on its own. It held up pretty well as my cheeks and t-zone were needing some blotting only
by the 7th hour. When layered beneath foundation or another base product that’s satin/matte, oh God, the combo holds up the whole day. Impressive stuff, I swear.
Diorskin Nude BB Cream
. I find myself liking the Western
version of BB creams more
than the Asian
ones. Most of the Asian BB creams I’ve tried are just too thick and heavy unlike the western versions that are more like tinted moisturizers with better coverage. Dior’s BB Creme gives just the right amount of coverage without feeling too heavy. The finish is soft matte
, not too flat, but not at all dewy either. It surprisingly lasts a long time on me too – I find that after 8 hours, no touch ups are needed.
. My Touche Veloutee
is nearing the end of its life span so I’m alternating it with this pen. I find the Touche Veloutee
silkier and easily blendable while Skinflash is quite on the drier side, but then it’s much more smudge-proof and slide-proof. Its light-diffusing properties are B0MB. It instantly makes me look more awake. Ugh, I love these highlighting pens so much!
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Amethyst
. I usually have trouble working with cream shadows save for these caviar sticks/cream shadow pens. They are literally just color on, blend with fingers and done
. They even stay put all day without the need of primer underneath. Amethyst is such a gorgeous color that despite not being so much a one-shadow kind of girl, I can leave the house without itching to do a darker outer-v.
Pixi Beauty Endless Silky Eye Pen in Bronze Beam
. I’ve recently reviewed this and I’m still not over how beautiful the color is, how non-smudge-able it is and how it defines the eyes subtly. I’ve used this quite often the past month that I’ve needed to sharpen I don’t know how many times already.
Hourglass Mood Light powder
. I find this has no oil-controlling properties because I used it on its own and needed some touch up by the 4th hour. But it ties a whole look seamlessly, even if I don’t have much base products on. When they talk about the blurring properties of these Ambient Powders, I’ve witnessed those effects
with Mood Light the most. When I had an onslaught of breakouts, I just conceal them and dust some Mood Light on top et voila
, it hides those pesky bumps perfectly. Hourglass voodoo, I tell you.
Hourglass Diffused Heat blush
. Among the three Hourglass products I own, this is solidly my favorite. It’s easy to over-apply as it’s a pigmented one, but it’s as easy to blend and buff out as well. So nope, won’t be selling this on my blog sale! Which speaking of…
We’re Having an Offline Blog Sale!
To my local readers who have been waiting for my long overdue online blog sale — a few blogger friends and I will be camping out at Crepeman Cafe in Kapitolyo (see map here) right across Capital Commons (Tipsy Pig, etc) on September 13 and 14 to sell some of our pre-loved makeup (and even clothes?). Rest assured everything is gently used, well-sanitized and reasonably priced. I’ve posted a sneak peek of some of the stuff I’ll be selling on my Instagram here.
Hope to see you there!
