Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in Mulberry

mulberry Behold, one of my top favorite eyeshadow formulas.. the Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow range. Ever since I got my hands on Midnight Brown, I’ve gone to the Nordstrom Burberry site prolly more than 100 times already — just to check if Pale Barley is ever going to be back in stock again. And maybe I did a little ‘window shopping’ and putting all my wishlist items in my cart while at it. Until I get to the checkout page. Where sensibility kicks back in and I rush to close the window instead. Yes, I have that now. Sensibility. Yay. mulberry2 mulberry6 mulberry7
The Lowdown
Oh, the packaging. I usually don’t talk about this aspect when I review – but when I do, it’s either I really love it or I really hate it. In this case, I’m a bit obsessed about it. First, the box is of a thick cardboard (that feels sturdy, not like those easily-wrinkled-cardboards) and — my favorite part — is textured. I love the pebbled texture that I’ve decided to keep both shadows in their boxes. I usually want to keep everything in their original boxes but realized doing so is a waste of space when storing. Moving on to the product itself — Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in Mulberry is a deep burgundy brown shade with iridiscent microshimmer. Applied on the lids, it looks fairly true to pan except that it pulls quite mauve. I find it quite difficult to pull off as it has a tendency to emphasize my yellow tones which is why foundation (or concealer at least) is a must when I wear this shadow. Must hide those dark circles, as this is the perfect shade to sport the “black eye” trend. On texture, gosh darn, this goes on very creamy and smooth with major color pay-off in one swipe. No crumbly mess, no fallout, no hard-to-blend out issues, just an awesome formula, you guys. I love me my Rouge Bunny Rouge shadows but I’d have to say I feel like I love Burberry Sheer more just because they’re less shimmery shiny shades. I’ve worn this without primer and it lasts well over 8 hours without fading. With primer, it’s more vibrant – but I like to wear it a bit more toned down and not too strikingly burgundy. mulberry5mulberry3 mulberry4mulberryfotd

Final Thoughts

Both Midnight Brown and Mulberry were only swiped once in the arm swatches shown above. See how they almost meld into the skin and don’t look like they’re just sitting atop? I’d even throw my eye brushes away every time I use these as they’re so easy to blend with just my fingers — they’re that silky smooth. My only qualm is that most of the other Single Eyeshadows are shades I already have or shades I don’t see will be getting a lot of use. They have quads but I’ve seen and read in majority of blogs that they’re not as soft, smooth or pigmented as the single eyeshadows. I know right, what a problem this is. LOL. Anyway, because of that, I have ceased from acquiring any more shades at the moment. But that Fall 2014 vampy palette, though.

I used to do the same on Nrodstrom and even Sephora!! All my “breaks”would go into scouring their new in and what not!! I am so glad I wasn’t the only one!! 😛 😀 This is such a pretty color Shari… do you think its similar to Chanel Ebloui? Do you have that color?

The vampy palette is all kinds of awesome! *sigh*

I do that compulsively before! Always checking “Whats New” as if it were the daily paper! *high five* Div! LOL. And y’know what – it does look fairly similar to Ebloui sans the microglitter! I don’t have it though, just looked up swatches. 🙂 And ugh, the vampy palette!!

I would imagine Pale Barley to be quite sheer 🙂 But these two I have are BAM, pigment. I wanted to pick up Rosewood but was unsure of how it would look against my skintone. I’ll scour your blog now for FOTDs if you have 🙂 Thanks Jenn!

havent posted these up on my blog just yet but maybe i’ll get on it.

Ahhh this is most probably on my wish list as well! I’m not too sure about the purplish/reddish undertone on myself, but YOU WEAR IT SO WELL!!!

    • August 3, 2014 / 11:37 am

I feel like I haven’t used it to its potential as I wear it lightly only, not to the full BAM opacity it comes in. 🙁 But one of these days! thanks, sunny!

I have both the above and Pale Barley, and the quad in Pink Taupe. The quad has pretty good quality too but if we were to nit pick then yes the singles are more buttery 🙂

    • August 3, 2014 / 11:38 am

I knooow, I think it’s just nitpicking – I’m so tempted to get the vampy palette which I just might. Gonna give their palettes a go this time 🙂 I want PALE BARLEY 🙁

This isn’t available here in the Philippines too Smita. I ordered from Nordstrom and had it shipped via a forwarder here 🙂 Oh the things we’d do!

    • August 3, 2014 / 11:39 am

Im sure it looks beautiful on you!

Oh wow, Mulberry is stunning! I’ve yet to try Burberry shadows, but I’m definitely curious! Mulberry is definitely up my alley- reminds me a bit of MAC Twinks, which is one of my faves 🙂

    • August 3, 2014 / 11:43 am

Oooh, will check out MAC Twinks. If they are similar, I suggest go for another shade. Pale barley (which I have yet to buy) is a good choice!

I love the purple tone to this shade…but I prefer midnight brown! Thanks for sharing!

    • August 3, 2014 / 11:45 am

I do prefer MB over this too! But for a non-neutral look, this is the choice 🙂

  8. August 2, 2014 / 5:36 pm

    Ieeeeeh this shade is STUNNING!
When I read ‘Vampy Palette’ I clicked and then I got completely sucked in. IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL.

I’m usually a silent reader but I visit every now and then. LOVE your blog 🙂

  10. August 2, 2014 / 8:17 pm

Oooh, this is a gorgeous shade. Very beautiful autumnal colour and the iridescence and texture (and packaging) are of course factors justifying the cost. Did you end up getting Pale Barley? :p

    • August 3, 2014 / 12:02 pm

      I. DID. :’) I think it’ll be a year soon since I started waiting for it to be back online! LOL.

  11. August 2, 2014 / 11:22 pm

I looooove this shade! But I’m trying to stay away from neutral colors cause I already have a lot (but I still want the Naked Basics palette and the Laura Mercier Palette errr).

    • August 3, 2014 / 12:02 pm

Naked Basics?! Why? :O Haha. Wag na yon! The LM palette is out of stock na everywhere so wala na rin yon, girl. 🙁

      • August 4, 2014 / 2:02 am

Gusto ko lang ng maliit na palette with matte shades. But I think I might end up going for one of those theBalm matte palettes 🙂 At bakit, di mo bet? :p And err, sayoung! Okay, might just get the Lorac Pro 2 then lol

I don’t know how you keep the embossing on!! If I had to choose though, Midnight Brown seems more my color. Love your lipstick here!!

  13. August 5, 2014 / 6:33 pm

The quads are of lower quality because you’re DESTINED to gather a collection. (Yes, I’m enabling you, muhahaha!)

  14. August 6, 2014 / 2:12 am

when it comes with Burberry products i tend to overlook the actual product and get fixated on the packaging lol. i wish Burberry would create an eyeshadow palette as big as the naked palettes in this exact packaging.

  15. August 8, 2014 / 10:57 am

This one is a looker! I love the look you did with it. I wore Midnight Brown on my wedding day, so I’m definitely a big fan of the formula and the color! Burberry singles are glorious! Rosewood has been on my wishlist for-literally-ever. <3

I love Burberry singles too Shari, they are one of the best. I also have a quad but I don’t use it as often as I should. I stopped buying though cos there aren’t any exciting new shades out. What about you?
