The only products I’ve tried from the brand thus far. I was a bit startled when I learned they actually have a whole range of skincare and body care items under their belt. A bit embarrassing, actually. Now that they’ve been around for 30 long years, maybe it’s time I break that association, no? Time to explore what else the brand has in store! Burt’s Bees is one of those companies that takes natural living the extra mile. I know natural is a buzz word (pun not intended, but I like it) thrown around in the beauty industry quite a lot that even I’m sometimes confused as to how you can tell or differentiate the natural products from the organic ones. But just to refresh our memories — natural ingredients are derived, in whole or in part, from natural sources with no synthetic compounds. While organic means that ingredients are also derived from natural sources but are cultivated without the use of synthetic chemicals or pesticides. K, science lesson done for the day.
“Mother Nature Knows Best”Burt’s Bees believes that whatever skin issues we may be having, Mother Nature has got our backs gurlfriends! That she knows best how to treat our problems without having to use processed chemicals churned out by people in lab coats. Not at all saying that chemicals are bad, because hey, I’m a chemical user/lover right here. It’s just that most of the time, we don’t even check our ingredient labels anymore and just submit our skin to whatever product marketing we’re sucked into at the moment. If no chemical product has worked for you or you’ve over-sensitive skin, try going the natural route. Although of course, there are also natural ingredients that are known irritants so it’s important to spot test any new product first before using it on your face to know if you’re allergic to it or not. Also, in line with their promise of 99-100% naturalness, Burt’s Bees believes in using ingredients that we can pronounce. Faster than you can say disodium cocoamphodiacetate, for instance. The only non-natural product they use for that remaining 1% is phenoxyethanol, a non-paraben, non-formaldehyde-releasing preservative. Phew, too much big words in one paragraph. Let’s move on to the fun stuff.
Got My Eyes On YouI snapped photos of the skincare products I’m keen on trying like the — Orange Essence Facial Wash, Garden Tomato Toner, Peach & Willow Deep Pore Scrub. And was so ecstatic that inside the press goodie bag, these were the exact items inside! Except for the scrub that was placed on my designated spot which differs per blogger. I’m actually excited to try out the range — and that says a lot ‘cos I’m currently attached to my minimal chemical-laden skincare routine at the moment. I’ll probably start on September. I thought the sign above was just a mishmash of random items but they’re actually made of ingredients used in Burt’s Bees products. The ‘O‘ is made up of beeswax, that I just had to touch. It was… hard. Haha. If you’re interested to see the natural ingredients Burt’s Bees use, check out their informative glossary here. Liz, pro beauty blogger also held a watercolor workshop! It was really really a great beginners’ intro to watercolor painting as I have zero art skills in life. Not an exaggeration, I speak the truth. I sat beside Carina, a visual artist for a living (!!!) so it was quite the pressure to even just make the simple color wheel seeing her effortless strokes (that’s her texting above ‘cos it was so easypeasy for her while there I was carefully blotting down my messed-up work). It was my first time to really get to talk to Carina offline and it was fuuuun. She even let me caress her Kjaer Weiss cream foundation that I am lusting over for a long time now and maybe fell in love with already seeing it up close. I swear, that girl is an ultimate enabler. We also got to sit beside Telliebellz for a short time and we just had to ask what lipstick she was rocking because it’s a beaute – the shade escapes me but it’s a Burberry Lip Cover. Overall, it was a very informative and fun event! One of the things I love about blogging is discovering new brands and products. It even excites me when I have to add a new Category in my WordPress dashboard because it means I’ve a new brand to try out and be able to share with you guys. Thank Burt’s Bees for inviting me to celebrate 30 wonderful years with you!
