RadiateAhhh, the Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm — an example of a beautiful balm stain formula that my dry, dry lips love to love. I’ve blogged about Rosy Red before and while I haven’t really been using it as often (because my sister borrowed it and loved it too much to return it LOL), I remember how flattering the formula appears on my lips (plumping and moisturizing). The Glamourbox Philippines team recently sent over a Pixi by Petra beauty box that contains a lovely curation of Pixi products which I’ll be sharing here over the weeks. I haven’t been this excited to write reviews on all the items sent, okay. I’ve been testing them out for two weeks now — and two products have made it to my current makeup rotation. Heeee. One of them I even dare say is a “dupe” for a Guerlain product I love.
RADIANT ROSEFor today though, let me go on with my thoughts regarding this Tinted Brilliance Balm in Radiant Rose*. As with Rosy Red, formula feels really light on the lips, treading the thin line between creamy and buttery. The finish is quite glossy, but not as high-shine as a full-on gloss. Most of the shine evaporates (!?) after a short period, let alone a meal in between. The colour doesn’t go away completely so it does leave a stain which — don’t fret! — fades evenly (no dreaded “lipstick halo“, the ring left from uneven fading). Radiant Rose, however, is less pigmented than Rosy Red. One swipe of the latter produces such a bold, saturated shade of err, rosy red. While Radiant Rose is quite the opposite and appears sheerer — feeling more like a balm than a lipstick. While I was disappointed upon swatching it on my arm, I felt au contraire as I swiped it on my lips. It has the same minty feeling when applied. However, it didn’t go on as sheer as I thought it would. I guess it’s the pH-levelling in action. Yes, although already tinted with color, Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm is one of those lip products that works with the pH of each person’s lips to create a customized tint which should be “an enhanced version of their own lip colour“. I know pH-adjusting lip products aren’t new — but those are usually transparent and/or non-pigmented shades right? All Pixi Tinted Balms are well, already tinted — so I’m quite amused that despite this, each shade still adapts to your own lips’ pH level. In short, while Radiant Rose may appear as a light rose shade on others, it may show up as a dark plummy rose on me — and it did. A beautiful, wearable, not-quite-MLBB shade (more like My Lips But A Bit Rosy Plummier) I know I can easily reach for when I have no time to think about what lip product to wear for the day.
MINOR ISSUESAs a predominantly balm formula, it doesn’t last long on the lips. An hour and a half tops, I’d say, before reapplication is needed. No qualms though as this is very easy to apply without any mirrors necessary. And it’s a moisturizing, hydrating lip balm so whatever keeps my lips from peeling at the same time coats it with a shade that’s a better version of my lips — you bet I’ll gladly reapply as needed. One issue “issue” though — the plastic cap is quite loose! I thought I had a packaging dud when I got my Rosy Red so I didn’t mind it even if that one day the cap fell off, everything inside my bag almost turned into 50 shades of crimson. I think Pixi Beauty heard about this issue because Radiant Rose comes with a different cap. It fits the pencil perfectly and doesn’t uncap easily like its predecessor. I’m guessing it won’t crack as easily as the previous one, too. Woot, woot!
Final ThoughtsSo yes, with this improvement, I can’t fault these babies anymore. They’re pretty nifty, easy-to-use and come in flattering shades that even my college freshman sister could wear most shades to class without blinding her professors or classmates. I’ve used Radiant Rose quite a few times already, but haven’t added it to my current makeup rotation (as I’m all about a matte/stain red lip atm). I do know, though, that when I’m out of this red kick and am back to my normal, neutral-loving self, I will definitely be adding this to my everyday makeup kit. Of course, those partial to mattes and satins won’t be too excited with this. But lip balm/stains lovers should try this formula at least once! I must share — how Radiant Rose looks on me above reminds me of MAC Plumful. Mac Plumful that I let go of a year ago. MAC Plumful that was one hell of a regret sale, to be honest. I found the shade to be a not-at-all-in-your-face plum that’s easy to wear and in a MAC formula that’s very forgiving on my lips (Lustre). Given that Radiant Rose gives me this MAC Plumful nostalgia, I think I’ll love it more and more as I wear it.
