Raves for my Faves

Oh hi guys, this sporadic blogger is actually doing a Favorites entry. Hmmm, it’s been a few good months since I’ve added to this series, come to think of it. I think the last one was the very corny-titled Feborites. So I’ve been thinking… what are favorites exactly?

‘Cos there are products you like a lot, but end up not using as often as others in your stash. Then there are those you use quite often but they’re not exactly your “favorites”. There are also new products you’re testing that you feel you like enough at the moment but not sure if you’d love entirely just yet.

So which is it for me? Well, I deem my favorites as those new (or newly rediscovered) items I’ve reached for more often than the usual during the said month that I really, really like (and may be on my way to loving). That said, I usually have only a few picks for the month (less than ten mostly) just ‘cos I’m quite particular with items I consider I really really like.

P.S. — I’ve a Reader of the Month contest! Click here to read the full details.

Dolce & Gabbana Eyeshadow Quad in Smokey (review here)
I’ve been best friends with this palette ever since I first laid it on my eyes (get it? lol) but we’ve drifted apart for quite some time. Last month, I found myself reuniting with it for some reason. Probably because I attended a few events that needed a little more oomph in the way I do my neutral eyes without having to actually veer too much away from it. I love how easily blendable this is that I’m rethinking about acquiring a new D&G palette but then, no. New NARS shadows are coming out soon, as well as the reformulated Chanel quads. Be still, my overly-lustful cosmetic heart.

Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner*
The Mother of all Eyeliners. I’ve a full review of this baby coming out this week so if you’re curious, do wait for that one. All I can say is ever since I received this, I haven’t been using any other liner since. My love for gel liners trumps all other forms so this innovative gel-in-a-pen invention is an easy SELL to me — that had I not received one from the generous ladies of Benefit, I’d be running on June 14 (flash sale) to get one for myself.

Maybelline Fashion Brow Mascara*
I’ve written about this a few entries back while I was still road-testing it and to my surprise, I found myself reaching it for everyday (over my MAC Girl Boy Brow Set). The wand is really nifty — although something you’d only fully appreciate after you’ve tried longer wands that apply so messily and heavily. This mascara applies lightly that you can build up to your desire. Forget the hassle of applying too much at once and looking like Barbie on a bad day.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Original Skin Blush in Gracilis (review here)
I call this my ‘whisper of pink‘ blush. Gracilis is so pale, I imagine as if I’ve been kissed on my cheek ever so gently by a cherub when I wear it. On the photo below though, I built it up a bit more so the camera can pick it up but it appeared starker and bolder than the usual ‘whisper’ it truly looks like.

mayfavesD&G Smokey on the eyes. Dior Fluid Stick in Mirage on the lips.

Dior Fluid Sticks in Magique* and Mirage
As soon as I laid my eyes on these new lip products, I was already pining for one (or two, or three) that I called the Dior counters asking when they’d be available. It’s such a unique formula (now that I’ve tried it) that I can’t really classify it in the lipgloss territory, although it’s the closest that it’s part of. I love how they feel on the lips that I’ve always been lugging around these two in my bag wherever I go. I’m eyeing more shades, actually. So yes — no question, I really love these.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation*
God, I love the glowing coverage this foundation gives despite its thinness and watery-like feature making you think it has sheer or almost-invisible coverage. Nope! In the photos above, I didn’t set this foundation with powder so you can see its real finish. I only used concealer on my undereyes and skipped on concealing my blemishes because I already like how the foundation slightly covers it, even if not fully.

Bobbi Brown Illuminating Face Base
A primer slash moisturizer slash illuminator infused with specially selected geranium, green tea and artichoke extracts that nourish the skin while providing a hydrated canvas for makeup application. Sometimes, I just wear this face base and top it with an Hourglass powder and I’m set. It has SPF25 so for times when I’m not out to fry my face underneath the sun, this is all the base I need. It’s not at all greasy as it sets after a while to a satin finish, but I would understand overly oily skin types who would dislike this as to avoid the “overly-hydrated skin” look.

How about you, what were your most-used items last May?

  • http://theblackmentosbeautybox.blogspot.com/ Sharlynn

Oh wow, that Bobbi brown skin foundation is totally on my radar and I’d love to own that blush from RBR! It’s such a glowing color!

    • http://www.themistymom.com/ Shari

The Skin Foundation, the more I use it – the more I like it! :) And Gracilis is such a light, airy blush I absolute find myself using more often than I thought I would.

Great picks, Shari. My most used item last May (and probably the rest of summer) was Ellana Minerals Cosmetics Loose Mineral Foundation. It’s just so wonderful for my oily skin and stays on long enough to not make me look like a wreck.

By the way, I’m really itching to get my hands on Benefit’s Push Up Liner. Excited to read your review.

    • http://www.themistymom.com/ Shari

Ahhhh because you reminded me, I actually used it for my latest FOTD! I really like it, too. First loose mineral foundation that works well on me and doesn’t turn me into CAKE city. Lasts all day, all night too!

      • http://flabsruletheworld.com/ Elaine

It’s also the first loose mineral foundation that does not break me out. Ganda talaga!

I was mindblown by gracilis. I was too excited to try it so I tried it on using my fingers (I don’t bring brushes with me to work) — oh my goodness, it can be blended by fingers. I might get more (habanera and orpheline). This is the first and only blush that made me apply blush almost everyday. It looked underwhelming the first time I opened it, parang meh. Pero wow lang.

    • http://www.themistymom.com/ Shari

WHEEEE!!! I’m so happy you like it (uhhh ako may-ari ng RBR? Haha!!). And yes, I use those blushes na fingers lang rin ang pang-blend, gurl. That’s why I like it so much – I can bring them without needing a brush pa. I want to get Habanera too. Don’t get Delicata (walang kwents on my skintone). Orpheline is kinda intense, though pero if you’re looking for a brighter shade, ganda rin siya. Post an FOTD na please – with eye makeup + Gracilis. Demanding lang. :))

Can’t wait for your review on the Push Up Liner :)

  • expatmuaddict

    That D&G quad!!! WOW!

    • http://www.themistymom.com/ Shari

One of my all-time favorite neutral quads. Very handy for travel too – can go from day to night!

Aah pretty lady your favourites instantly go over in my wishlist! :-) Im dying to get my hands on the dior sticks! looks lovely on you! <3

  • Jennifer Frank

You are sooo beaut, I’ve been wanting to try the bobbi brown foundation for so long!

  • Makeup With A Heart

I love the Bobbi Brown skin Foundation stick! It’s great for lazy days or when i don’t have enough time to apply Foundation because it has great coverage and blends easily. I might go back and get a darker shade for Summer but for now, warm sand is good enough :)

  • Joy

Hi shari, I hope you dont mind if I ask the price of BB Skin Foundation and what your shade us in BB skin foundation. Thank you.

  • Meg

I am so excited for your Dior fluidsticks review! I have open me and mona lisette shades and i love them so much.

  • http://aucupariabrumalis.wordpress.com/ Claire

I am really curious what you have to say about that Benefit push-up liner. as for now, I am not intrigued by that liner at all D: glad you like the fluid sticks as well, and that bronzed shade in the DG palette looks really pretty! xxx

  • Raven Ang

Two fluid sticks?! Uh-oh. Seeing you love them makes me want Wonderland. Want that They’re Real liner too! Ugh. You temptress!!

  • http://www.glambunctious.com/ Kristen / Glambunctious

Shari, your photos always inspire me and make me smile! You capture the beauty of beauty products so perfectly! Bloggers like you are the reason I no longer find myself that into magazine beauty sections. Why pay to read a flat review without swatches or anyone showing how the product looks on a human when I can read humorous blog posts like this one that show me EXACTLY how they look and are photographed so beautifully? I’d much rather read The Misty Mom than Lucky! :) Great picks, btw. I’m needing to know more about this Benefit liner and the Dior Fluid Sticks!

  • Becoming Sleek

I want to try the fluid sticks too! So chic and the colors are so pretty!~

  • http://beautybytellie.com/ Beauty by Tellie

Your photos are amazing! They look magazine-professional *_* Anyway, out of all these things I am honing in on those Dior sticks. Not a big Dior fan (yet) but eee they look so lovely.

  • http://www.vibrantbeautyblog.com/ Jennifer Monforton

Beautiful picks this month! I’m so curious to try the Dior Fluid Sticks as well as that new BeneFit liner! xo

  • Mads

I love the products Shari! I bought the RBR Gracilis blush too because of you hehe..=) I scored a great deal at the recent Luxola sale at 35% off =) It really is such pretty shade of pale pink, however, I noticed sometimes maybe because of my oily skin mejo it turns a bit darker. Do you have tips on how to make it stay as true to its original color? Maybe a lighter foundation siguro? I want to try the Bobbi Brown products too!

  • http://lamajesty.wordpress.com/ Emae

Ganda!!! I really wanna try those Fluid Sticks! Bongga ng packaging eh. :))

  • http://girlbehindglasses.wordpress.com/ Nikki P.

Chanel quads! Whoo, I’m excited for those! Haha
