Raves for my Faves
Oh hi guys, this sporadic blogger is actually doing a Favorites entry. Hmmm, it’s been a few good months since I’ve added to this series, come to think of it. I think the last one was the very corny-titled Feborites. So I’ve been thinking… what are favorites exactly?
‘Cos there are products you like a lot, but end up not using as often as others in your stash. Then there are those you use quite often but they’re not exactly your “favorites”. There are also new products you’re testing that you feel you like enough at the moment but not sure if you’d love entirely just yet.
So which is it for me? Well, I deem my favorites as those new (or newly rediscovered) items I’ve reached for more often than the usual during the said month that I really, really like (and may be on my way to loving). That said, I usually have only a few picks for the month (less than ten mostly) just ‘cos I’m quite particular with items I consider I really really like.
Dolce & Gabbana Eyeshadow Quad in Smokey (review here)
I’ve been best friends with this palette ever since I first laid it on my eyes (get it? lol) but we’ve drifted apart for quite some time. Last month, I found myself reuniting with it for some reason. Probably because I attended a few events that needed a little more oomph in the way I do my neutral eyes without having to actually veer too much away from it. I love how easily blendable this is that I’m rethinking about acquiring a new D&G palette but then, no. New NARS shadows are coming out soon, as well as the reformulated Chanel quads. Be still, my overly-lustful cosmetic heart.
Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner*
The Mother of all Eyeliners. I’ve a full review of this baby coming out this week so if you’re curious, do wait for that one. All I can say is ever since I received this, I haven’t been using any other liner since. My love for gel liners trumps all other forms so this innovative gel-in-a-pen invention is an easy SELL to me — that had I not received one from the generous ladies of Benefit, I’d be running on June 14 (flash sale) to get one for myself.
Maybelline Fashion Brow Mascara*
I’ve written about this a few entries back while I was still road-testing it and to my surprise, I found myself reaching it for everyday (over my MAC Girl Boy Brow Set). The wand is really nifty — although something you’d only fully appreciate after you’ve tried longer wands that apply so messily and heavily. This mascara applies lightly that you can build up to your desire. Forget the hassle of applying too much at once and looking like Barbie on a bad day.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Original Skin Blush in Gracilis (review here)
I call this my ‘whisper of pink‘ blush. Gracilis is so pale, I imagine as if I’ve been kissed on my cheek ever so gently by a cherub when I wear it. On the photo below though, I built it up a bit more so the camera can pick it up but it appeared starker and bolder than the usual ‘whisper’ it truly looks like.
Dior Fluid Sticks in Magique* and Mirage
As soon as I laid my eyes on these new lip products, I was already pining for one (or two, or three) that I called the Dior counters asking when they’d be available. It’s such a unique formula (now that I’ve tried it) that I can’t really classify it in the lipgloss territory, although it’s the closest that it’s part of. I love how they feel on the lips that I’ve always been lugging around these two in my bag wherever I go. I’m eyeing more shades, actually. So yes — no question, I really love these.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation*
God, I love the glowing coverage this foundation gives despite its thinness and watery-like feature making you think it has sheer or almost-invisible coverage. Nope! In the photos above, I didn’t set this foundation with powder so you can see its real finish. I only used concealer on my undereyes and skipped on concealing my blemishes because I already like how the foundation slightly covers it, even if not fully.
Bobbi Brown Illuminating Face Base
A primer slash moisturizer slash illuminator infused with specially selected geranium, green tea and artichoke extracts that nourish the skin while providing a hydrated canvas for makeup application. Sometimes, I just wear this face base and top it with an Hourglass powder and I’m set. It has SPF25 so for times when I’m not out to fry my face underneath the sun, this is all the base I need. It’s not at all greasy as it sets after a while to a satin finish, but I would understand overly oily skin types who would dislike this as to avoid the “overly-hydrated skin” look.
How about you, what were your most-used items last May?
