When it comes to blushes, I’d like to think I’m a bit more adventurous as compared to my lip preferences that all scream samey same. I do have a tendency to gravitate towards subtle and not so in-your-face shades though, but opt for the occasional shade pop here and there. Especially during the hotter months of summer when I think it’s okay to pile on the color because you could get away by saying, “I flush fuschia when I super sweat so.. yeahuh.“
Two things: I don’t flush fuschia (shame) and I don’t talk like that. I do love them blushes, though. And for this entry, I handpicked 5 shades I’ve been reaching for most often in the past summer months.
Burberry Peony. The lightest of the group and my absolute go-to for when I can’t think of a blush to wear yet need some kind of subtle color on my cheeks to finish a look. It’s also a blush choice for when I feel like going all out on the eyes or when I’m wearing too bold a lip shade. Basically, this is a perfect all-around blush that has received the most mileage in my stash.
Hourglass Diffused Heat. Out of the three Hourglass blushes I own, this one is my favorite. It’s what I called the consolation shade — in case my first two choices were too light for my skintone. Turns out, I was right — this is the best suited shade for me among the three. It heats up the cheeks, indeed. You’ll see on the photo after the jump what I mean.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Orpheline. A pretty strawberry shade that’s super pigmented in one swipe, yet so creamy and smooth that it practically blends itself. I use this when I have minimal makeup and want a real pop of color on the cheeks that’s not screaming B-L-U-S-H. Of course, you know it’s there but because it’s so blendable, you can hardly pinpoint its edges.
Clinique Berry Pop*. The brightest berry in the bunch. I don’t normally go for shades like these but Clinique taught me how to wear them. Don’t be scared by the pigment, like the RBR blushes, these Clinique cheek pops blend so beautifully the finish is almost skin-like with a satiny glow. I love the finish so much, I’m itching to get Ginger Pop for a more everyday shade.
Chanel Rose Tourbillon. If I want a real full-on sheen, I opt for this beauty right here. It was originally the brightest blush in my stash before my RBR and Clinique blushes came in which made me overlook this for some time. I’ve been pulling it out recently again because in this hellish heat, I can’t bear piling on powders (base + blush + highlighter + finishing). I use this for a blush + highlighter in one.
