When Time is of the Essence
I wanted to do a post on my on-the-go makeup picks but realized it’d be interesting to show a side-by-side comparison of what I would also pick if I had the luxury of time. Obviously, I can’t do a 30-second face! I can’t even rummage through my unorganized, cluttered makeup bag for the only mascara I have in 30 seconds. But you guys get the point of having the freedom of having a full 30 minutes to do makeup as opposed to feeling as if you’ve only “30 seconds” to spare!
Eyebrows
I am close to declaring the MAC Fluidline in Dirty Blonde my HG eyebrow product if only it weren’t limited edition and thus, unavailable anywhere else now. I use the MAC 208 brush together with this for HD-looking browzah. However, scrambling to find the 208 brush when I use this could have already given me time to tightline or double curl my lashes. The NARS Brow Perfector pencil and Majolica Majorca Brow Customize (sword-cut version) pencil are my go-tos for on-the-go brows. The NARS pencil is stiff, waxy and good for filling in brows using upward dash strokes rather than drawing a smooth line. They aren’t pigmented so it’s hard to go overboard. The Majolica Majorca pencil is more pigmented and can be used to draw in a fluid manner but manages to still stay natural-looking. What I like about Majolica is the other end of the pencil includes a spoolie for easy brow grooming/combing.
Contour & Highlight
When I’m in a hurry, I just use a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream (as pictured in the cover photo) but don’t skip on warming up and/or highlighting my face just because. So far, my favorite duo is NARS Laguna and Burberry Nude Radiance. Again, scrambling for two separate products, opening and closing each one isn’t at all time-friendly. That is what I like most about the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (which is back in stock now!!!!! Grab yours here!) — it makes the whole face definition process easy-peasy. If there’s one thing I’m amazed I can do in just 30 seconds, it would be being able to finish, warm up/bronze and highlight in a snap. I can’t recommend this palette more. It’s been a lazy day staple!
Blush
I have powder blushes that are relatively easy to apply but having to look for a blush brush to use with it is the time-killer. That’s where my cream blushes come in handy! They can be blended easily and effortlessly without having to worry about patchy application and other such issues. Pictured above are NARS Powder Blush in Gina and Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Fresh Melon.
Eyelashes
I haven’t found the ONE mascara for me yet and I’ve only been getting used to wearing mascara on a regular basis recently — because I finally found a way to hold the curls. However, I tend to skip on mascara when pressed for time because I can’t deal with smudges or smears – I’d need another set of 30 seconds to clean those up. What I never skip on though is curling the lashes. I’ve been using a Koji eyelash curler that curls my lashes better than my well-loved Shu Uemura. However, it has a slight learning curve because if not properly positioned in its strategic curling point, it can easily pinch some delicate skin. The first few times some pinches occurred, I almost threw the curler away (even though it’s not a cheap curler k!). But finally learning the proper way to use it has majorly helped in curling these sparse Asian lashes, making them look longer than they are.
Eyes
Liquid eyeliner.. where do I even begin? Doesn’t matter if I have 30 minutes or 2 hours, I’m bound to mess it up. So this is definitely one big NO when I’m on-the-go (busting out my poetic skillz there). And while I’m apprehensive with pencil liners transferring and leaving you racoon-eyed, I found that they’re the easiest and most fool-proof product in terms of lining the eyes. I love gel liners but THE BRUSH. Products above are the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof liquid eyeliner and the Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes pencil eyeliner.
Powder
Finally, when I have the luxury of time, I always make sure to finish up with a loose powder. So it’s foundation + loose powder + finishing powder. As a quicker, less fussy alternative – I prefer to use a high-definition mineral foundation in its pressed version which is the Ellana Minerals Pressed Mineral Foundation in Chai Tea Latte. No mess to worry about cleaning up after! And that concludes this edition of my on-the-go makeup picks! I have a few more comparisons but*Affiliate Links

I seriously want to try Ellana!! I think you should check out the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Blonde. It seems like such a similar product to the Fluidline. I purchased the Shu Uemura S Curler and it takes so much time to curl all my lashes! It’s great for travel though cuz it’s so teeny.
If I just had 30 seconds to do my makeup I’d probably just use a powder foundation/mineral powder, tinted browgel, finishing powder, mascara and a super duper bold lip!
Thanks for the suggestion, Ray! I’ve read this in your other post na, but forgot to reply. I’ve been looking into since but always find the Blonde shade out of stock in Sephora.
I tried the S Curler in Shu Uemura and noooope, too time-consuming and effort-taking for me! Hihi
Which do you think is better, the pressed Ellana or the loose powder one? I really really want to try mineral foundation but is too broke to purchase the bareMinerals one.
Anyway, I normally have 30 minutes or so for makeup application but if I only have about 10 minutes, I would say brows (pencil all the way), powder foundation, blush, mascara and then lipstick. That’s it. Sounds like a lot but I can actually get it done in just about 7-10 minutes. I’ve tried and it’s no fun! Haha
Overall, I still go with the loose powder one. It’s just messier and not time-friendly but its coverage and finish are PERF. I think the thing I didn’t mention here kaya it takes me longer to put on a relatively easy 10-minuter face is because I’m so disorganized. Sometimes kaka-baba ko lang ng brush, di ko na mahanap kasi ang cluttered cluttered ng table ko (with all the free sachet samples and flyers hovering around the table) HAHA.
I’m definitely getting the pressed Ellana powder in Japan! The packaging is so cute too.
As for the blush part, for me it’d be the other way around! Cream products can sometimes take me a while to apply.. Or perhaps I’m just a fussy perfectionist 🙂
Sometimes I find blush powder easier if I didn’t have to scramble for a blush brush. But I find Chanel’s cream blush and Bobbi Brown’s pot rouges very easy to apply – a no brainer!
yup. i’d say our 30 secs faces are about the same lol. at the very least i always use liner.
My literal 30-seconds face would be a white cast of sunscreen :))
I absolutely go with different products when I’m short on time! Especially in the eyebrow department!
Yup, same here! 🙂
Great post! xx

You are SO lucky you don’t have to wear mascara, i’d look like a ghost! xx

For some reason, a lot of mascaras weigh down my curls so I’ve skipped on using them and just curl my lashes instead! 🙂 Any mascara recommendations?
Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade saves me the time and space in my kit. Brow makeup and eyeliner in one nifty pot. Oh, and I can’t do a 30-second face, at least 10 minutes maybe. There’s bb cream, setting powder, blush, eyeliner, brows and lipstick.
You know, I think it’ll be awesome if Hourglass would make more Ambient Lighting Palettes. It’s such a hit, they should have different combinations of that product.
I will definitely get that Dipbrow Pomade @ravenang:disqus also recommended to me. So glad Anastasia carries it! And Gurl, I can’t do a 30-second face too ;)) It’s just a hyperbole when you’re rushing and only have give-or-take 5-10 mins!
I agree! I’m actually glad they’re back in stock, I’ve been scrimping on using mine! Pero yes, hope we could’ve made our own palettes (blush + powder combinations!!) rin!
Thanks so much for tips! I really enjoyed this post 🙂
Thanks for the feedback, Pau! I appreciate it and glad I could help!! 😉
I’m loving this post! Mind if I make a post with this concept? xx
Hi Tricia! Thanks for the love. Sure, I’d love to read your picks! 🙂 Link me if you can!
This is a great post! Although I’m still having trouble applying cream blush that I find it easier and quicker to apply powder blush! Cream blush always applies unevenly on my cheeks 🙁
I loveeeeee Majolica Majorca’s eyebrow pencil! It stays on all day and it’s the perfect shade for my brows! <3 I swear, that and my foundation lang ang ginagamit ko everyday, especially when I go to school and super konti lang ng time! I wanna try Ellana's sooooo bad! Hihi
I'm glad that Hourglass made the Ambient Lighting Palette permanent! I should pre-order it na. 🙂
BTW, balgtad tayo sa blushes teh! Haha! I use the powder one if I only have 30 seconds kasi di ako sanay gumamit ng cream blush. 🙁
I love this post! Though pressed by time, I still put my full makeup on kaya tuloy ako nalelate! 😛 I need to keep these suggestions in mind para hindi na ako malate… 😀
Just bought the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette after reading your post. Not such a huge fan of highlighting/contouring/dewy foundation before but since my skin’s been pretty dry (to the point of all these yucky flakes and stuff), have been embracing the dewy look. Hopefully, this palette will help me achieve that believable glow without all the glittery particles and making me look a a pixie threw up on my face xD
I’m sure you’re happy to know that MAC Fluidline Dirty Blonde isn’t LE anymore 😀
On the go na ko, para kahit nasa byahe pwede ako magmakeup. 🙂
