Base Down Low

I’ve been testing out two new base products recently and thought I’d share them here while I haven’t yet penned down my final thoughts. The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer isn’t new at all (though I have yet to review it!) but I’ve been trying it out for acne scars recently as I had the impression it only works for the undereyes. Since my skin is still in breakout mode from the cleansing oil conflict, it was high time I tried it as a spot concealer and guess what guys… it works pretty well! The key is to dab a small amount on the scar/bump/blemish and then to pat it diligently without swiping. Set with powder after and that’s it.Β

Second Skin, Only Better

I felt more than privileged to be invited to the Bobbi Brown House of Foundation event a few days ago and am beyond ecstatic to receive a bottle of their best-selling Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation to try out. Define excited. I wore it right away the next day and the days that followed (earlier, too!). It’s a light-medium oil-free foundation that has a natural, satin finish. It feels like tinted moisturizer with much better coverage. I like that it evens out my skintone and cancels out any redness without feeling heavy at all. I wear the shade Warm Beige (MAC NC30). Full review soon.

Light it Up Up Up

In a moment of weakness, I picked up another Ambient Lighting Powder – Mood Light. I initially wanted Diffused Light, but the makeup store I bought it from had one last piece of Mood Light remaining and the owner told me it’s top makeup artists’ alleged favorite. Easily swayed low-EQ person that I am, I went for it. Mood Light is described as aΒ “soft, sheer lavender pink that mimics the softest, most forgiving light and brightens the complexion”. More concretely, it visibly blurs the slightest blemishes and pores still peeking through after foundation.

It’s a pinky lavender so when applied heavily (which I did the first time cos I feared I wouldn’t see anything), I found it darkens my foundation! However, applied properly, it leaves a flawless, seamless finish without any detectable sheen but with a particular glow. It’s so weird, you guys. I’ll write a full and proper review soon when I’ve used this more and have figured out the best application technique.

it is good to know that the nars concealer is good for breakouts too. every review only is on under eye use, which I don’t use any concealer for.

    Those are pretty good matches.

On moodlight dimming your face, I experience that with dim light when I put too much.

Hey Shari, I’ve tried a Bobbi Brown base or two (during makeovers/workshops), but I don’t think I’ve tried this one yet! You make it sound so tempting though! I have the NARS concealer and I do like it a lot. For the moment my foundation routine includes Guerlain Tenue de Perfection, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (for the undereye area), Cle de Peau Concealer (for imperfections), Guerlain Crazy Meteorites (for my cheeks), and Guerlain Les Voilettes pressed powder (for my T-zone). If I still have the time, I use a bit of YSL Touche Eclat under my eyes, next to my nose, and the corners of my mouth! Phew. That is one complicated foundation routine! Now you know why I don’t wear makeup every day :p

Ah Mood Light looks so beautiful. I’ve really enjoyed all the Ambient Lighting products I’ve purchased and while I really should make more of a dent in what I have first, this makes me long for Mood Light. It looks like it would be subtly brightening, I find those cool light lavender/pinks can give a very fresh, awake look to the skin

I’m loving this post, Shari! I find your blog so inspiring! You make me want to post more often! Big ups to you for that! My foundation routine lately has been Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, and YSL Mat Radiance powder. It’s easy, fast, and lasts all day! I had Mood Light but i returned it after a month of trying to get it to stop oxidizing purple on my face! It was a cool look, but an unintentional one, and it looks a little space aged. I traded it for Dim Light, which I like, but it’s just basically a light yellow powder. I wanted Tyra Banks lighting crew, ya know?! πŸ˜‰

Oooohh Mood Light. I really really really love Diffused Light. It just gives a subtle sheen that makes you look so healthy and radiant. And it makes your skin look so smooth as if it has no blemishes. What shade are you in the creamy concealer? πŸ™‚ After getting my SSE it’s basically all I’ve been using as my face base. I mix it into a tinted moisturizer and spot conceal blemishes that can still peek through. I just finish it off with Diffused Light all over and maybe even highlight a but with Luminous Light. Hourglass ALPs are seriously a heaven sent. I need to buy more!

My base (if you can call it that) is nothing fancy, just my face moisturizers (a snail cream and an Olay day cream) actually.

Oooh, Bobbi Brown. But then again, I already too many foundations right now. I’ll probably just go for the NARS Concealer. Hehe.

That foundation looks tempting! I tried NARS concealer recently but had to take it back it was irritating, sad because it covered beautifuly. I use a CDN brand CC at the moment, Crazy MΓ©tΓ©orites, Crazy Terracotta with a Rimmel concealer. πŸ™‚
