Blush Week: Rouge Bunny Rouge Original Skin Blushes

FOR LOVE OF ROSES

I’ve held out on these blushes for the longest time because of my blush mindset a.k.a ‘everything just looks either pink, orange, nude/brown on me so what’s the point’. So I resisted despite the tempting raves… but still kept on looking up reviews and obsessing over them while I was at it. It didn’t help that Luxola emailed me a discount code as sort of a “MISS YOU” gift, which apparently gave me the final push to go avail these babies. Effective marketing tool, by the way, you guys. Snaps.
So a little background for those who aren’t familiar yet witht the brand — Rouge Bunny Rouge‘s line of powder blushes is called Original Skin Blush: For Love of Roses. Wordy, I know. But worth every single syllable pronunciation, I promise. The brand was London-born, but based both in Moscow and London since its conception last 2006.
The brand infuses the romanticism and fantastical fairy tales of Victoriana and regalness of Tsarism in their products which in my opinion, puts life into each and every item. The copies are a bit, okay fine – super flowery and maybe overly whimsical, but it’s a refreshing change from the same old “natural, revolutionary, *insert overused marketing copies here*”.

The Lowdown

Shades. The three shades I got are Delicata, Gracilis and Orpheline. Delicata is a nude beige-rose with a hint of peach. It’s a nice ‘barely there’ shade that makes me wonder if it’s really there as it closely matches my skintone. Gracilis is a soft pink with a touch of mauve. It’s quite cool-toned, but this is actually my favorite of the three as it doesn’t turn dark pink on my cheeks (like most pinks do), it remains a soft baby pink that makes me think of cotton candy.
Both Delicata and Gracilis are the lighter shades in the range and recommended for fair-light skintones.  But of course, my scared-of-intense-blushes self still went for these despite my medium skintone. I did manage to convince myself to get one more to compensate for the two above just in case they were too light to even show up on my cheeks. Orpheline is a medium warm strawberry, best for well, medium-warm skintones.
Texture & Finish. Hands down, one of the best blush formulas I’ve encountered – though I still find Burberry’s blushes one or two notches higher. The formula feels more like a cream than powder as it is super silky smooth and oh-so-buhuhh-ttery. They are all easy to blend and work with as they meld into the skin beautifully, not just sitting atop it waiting to be blown away by the wind. The finish of these blushes are a soft satin, as they have a slight glow to them despite the undetectable shimmer in the pan (except Orpheline that upon closer inspection has gold flecks).
Also, worth noting is how forgiving these blushes are on dry skin. I had dry patches on my right cheek from all the breakouts and acne-battling treatments I put on – but it didn’t accentuate any of it further.

Pigmentation. These have good color pay-off but nothing bold or saturated (except the darker shades which pack more punch). One swipe of Gracilis and Delicata delivers kind of a soft whisper, so to speak but can be built up to desired opacity. Orpheline, I find, delivers great pigmentation with just one swipe. Two swipes push me closer to clown-cheek territory.
Longevity.I would say 5 hours for both Gracilis and Delicata before I felt that I needed to touch up. Orpheline lasts longer, though – 7 hours to be exact. I had to remove my makeup at that time so who knows, it could’ve lasted longer. Overall, not bad right?

DELICATA

I only have a photo of Delicata worn and it’s not the best representation of it. The lighting kinda makes it hard to see how it registers on my cheeks in person. The peach comes out a little pink but the nude-beige is quite apparent especially on the upper cheekbone area. I think this is two light-handed swipes of Delicata on. Note to self: I think I should apply blushes with a heavier hand when I’m taking FOTDs so they’d register on camera better.

Final Thoughts

I LOVE these Rouge Bunny Rouge blushes. Thank God there are only six shades, else I’ll be broke even just in hopes of wanting to collect these all. I think the formula is one of the best I’ve encountered, though I have yet to try more blush formulas in the future. The only downside, I believe, is its relatively high price/gram. For $28, it contains only 3.5g worth of product. As compared to NARS that contain 4.5g ($30), Burberry blushes contain 6.8g ($42), Chanel contains 6g ($43), MAC contains 6g ($20).
PSLuxola.com, where I bought these, is a Singapore online cosmetics retailer that ships to the Philippines for free with a minimum purchase of Php1,300. Super fast delivery – ships within 3-4 days upon payment straight to your doorstep with no tax/customs fee. The reason I’ve been shopping more than I should lately. Not good. But the ease of it all is just too tempting. Also, they do flash sales like 20-30% discounts (which I’ve taken advantage of to get these blushes!) so even more temptation.
PPS – They have just restocked their Rouge Bunny Rouge blushes and eyeshadows because they sold out a few months ago. The only other way to get Rouge Bunny Rouge is through their online store here but it takes longer to ship and the fees are something I’m afraid to look at.

Amazing! I totally would love Orpheline! The color and finish are so flawless! They are expensive though but I guess if they do perform so well it’s just like picking up a dior or chanel blush!

I obviously have too much time. LOL!! I can’t decide on my final layout hihi.
Practicing my falsie application till I can do it with my eyes closed (HAHA RIGHT!)
And these dont look at all enticing but they are super duper finely-milled and velvety :)

  • Nix Sayo

Your photos always have this professional feel to them! :) I like the shade Delicata (the one you’re wearing!) ‘cos it doesn’t scream “I HAVE BLUSH ON MY CHEEKS!!” hahaha and it fits my morena shade, I think? Or I might not look like I’m wearing blush at all ‘cos the shade’s too blended to my skin color. LOL.

    • http://www.themistymom.com/ Shari

Aww thanks Nix! :-) I appreciate your sweet comments always!
Delicata is one of my faves too as I like looking like I dont have blush on ;) Hihi.

Looking for reviews of this. I was sure I’d find one in your blog. I think I’m getting one (gracilis), I’ve been looking for not-so “BAM PIGMENT!” blushes and this seems to fit the bill.

    Any other suggestions?
