Did You Know….?

Benefit’s lip and cheek tints certainly need no introduction. They’ve been around since 1976, when Benetint was first whipped up by twins Jean and Jane Ford to cater to an exotic dancer looking to liven up her nipples with a tinge of color that will last through her performances. Imagine that… Benetint was actually made for nipples! Makes me smile thinking that the original name could have been one letter less (hint: the letter n). Haha!
I was an avid Benetint user back in college way before I deviated paths and somehow got lost in the world of “buy all the shiny and sparkly things!” It was fuss-free, easy to use and long-lasting at the same time giving me the right amount of just-pinched cheeks and rosy lips. It’s been a while since I’ve played with Benefit products so I’m truly excited to share with you my reunion with the brand – starting with the newest addition to their tint family, Lollitint*.

The Lowdown

Shade. A candy orchid hue which has a tinge of coolness to it, almost lavender but once applied on the skin registers pink enough making it very wearable. Is it a coincidence that it is totally in line with 2014’s Pantone of the Year, Radiant Orchid? Something I thought I wouldn’t be able to wear but have managed to pull off thanks to Lollitint. I would imagine that this is best suited for olive, caramel, tan skintones because the orchid will really pop out more, though I’ve seen lighter skin tones wearing it well too, though pulling more pink than orchid.
Packaging. Lollitint comes in a bottle exactly the same as the other tints in the family. Its applicator is something I’ve grown to enjoy using, because at first I did feel like I was putting on nail polish on my cheeks. Hah! I personally like the aesthetic value of the bottle, but for clumsy people like me who knocks lipsticks off tables smushing them into smithereens in a split second, extra care is needed. Also, unlike some pump-packaged tints that kick out product as if you’d be using it as foundation for the whole face, with this – it’s easier to control the amount you’d need to put on.
Texture & Consistency. Cheek tints are of liquid consistency – some more gel-like, some more watery. Lollitint and all other tints in the family are more in the watery spectrum. Although I have to say, Lollitint is less aqueous than its predecessors and more milky and creamy – so to speak. It spreads just as easily and can be blended effortlessly BUT should be worked on quickly else you’re left with a patch of pink on your cheek.

Pigmentation & Application Technique. At first, I was actually disappointed because I thought Lollitint was too sheer that it doesn’t show up on me at all, especially on my lips where it just seemed to get sucked in right away. On my second try, I built it up more – swiped 4 lines on each cheek and put 4 layers of tint on my lips. Results? See below!
Longevity. The old tints in the family aren’t waterproof but lasted well throughout the whole day (Benetint). Lollitint is formulated as waterproof and lasts just as long on me. On my cheeks, it faded slightly after 10 hours. On the lips though, since I layered on too much, it dried down quite patchily. I think the key is to blot out after piling on, which I skipped and let it dry down by itself. The stain left on the lips lasted till I had to take my makeup off, which was after the 10-hour mark. The stain left on my hand where I swatched, though – lasted till the morning after!! Had to use a makeup remover to completely erase it.

Final Thoughts

I have rekindled my affinity for lip and cheek tints with Benefit Lollitint. It’s a lazy girl’s ultimate makeup weapon, I must say. On days I don’t feel like spending too much time on makeup, I would reach for a concealer, eyelash curler and Lollitint and I’m done in less than 2 minutes. The lilac tone is a refreshing change to my usual pinks and corals, immediately brightening up my face. It may not be the ‘just-worked-out’ flush I get with Benetint, but I’m liking it more and more as I wear it. Especially for the hotter temperatures right around the corner. I’m actually bringing Lollitint to my beach trip next week!
Have you tried any of Benefit’s lip and cheek tints? Share your experiences! If not, are you keen on trying out Lollitint? They’re already available in all Benefit counters and in their main boutique in Greenbelt 5, FYI.

I haven’t tried Benefit’s lip and cheek tints yet but I think you convinced me to try them! I didn’t know the history of Benetint! So funny!

Hey Shari, I haven’t tried any of these, but this is definitely a fun shade to add to my blush stash! Don’t think I own anything remotely similar. It looks great on you! Very different indeed!

I am wearing Cha Cha Tint today, and I badly want to add this to my collection! >_<

I tried Benetint a long time ago when it first came out but I wasn’t too happy with the color.
Lolli tint looks like something I’d like much better, though!
The color looks very pretty and refreshing on you. LOVE

I’ve tried Posietint and I hated it! I wanted Benetint (hehe Benetit) but the SA told my mom pink would suit my skintone better. Of course, my mom had to trust the ‘all knowing SAs’ (she was actually from MAC…). But Lollitint is gorgeous! I especially like it as a lip tint.

I love lip & cheek tints! I have their Cha Cha tint which is a lovely coral/orange shade. it’s extremely pigmented though & stains my fingertips like mad so I have to work really fast in applying. As usual, this looks amazing on you Shari! I am yet to see something that doesn’t look great on you haha 🙂 Thanks for the heads up! Will definitely check this out! xx

I can’t believe it was originally made for nipples hahaha so funny and quirky! :))) I’m torn between Lollitint and Posietint! I’m also a bit curious about Snoe Beauty’s version (the Lippy Cheeky tints in Boysenberry, Maraschino, etc.) :3

I don’t think I can pull off wearing this shade on the lips. But it’s a nice cheek color. 🙂

I love reading your posts 🙂 Such a treat! And yes, Lollitint is excellent for Olive skin tones 🙂 I have only used mine once, but as you say you need to work really fast to get it looking just right. I have found using a brush is easier. My foundation brush to be exact, and I layer it on bit by bit while I continuously blend!

I love the color, especially when applied to the cheeks. Hihi! So pretty, Shari babes =)

At first I wasn’t 100% sold on this, but the more reviews I see, the more I want it. Quite uncanny of Benefit to release Lollitint with the whole ‘radiant orchid’ craze going on 🙂

  14. March 13, 2014 / 8:17 pm

Oh this is really a beautiful one! I love how even and pigmented it looks on you! So well placed, it’s a beautiful color on your skin!

Hi! I accidentally stumbled on your blog and started back-reading. Your blog is very informational. 🙂 Now I’m hooked!
Anyway… I have all 3 tints from Benefit. Benetint is the easiest to apply with its watery texture. the posie tint and the chacha tint are more creamy and have to be blended quickly. I am itching to get my hands on this lollitint after reading your post!

Looks great on you! I wonder if this would look good on fair skinned girls! I love benetint but I’m considering getting this, too!

Actually love this more than Posietint, but I think Benefit tints’ formula need quicker hands to blend them into cheeks. Compared to The Body Shop tints, the formula of Benetints are more liquid and get absorbed faster. IMHO, they’re also more prone to looking patchy on the cheeks as TBS tints are gel-type and the pigment seems to stay suspended in their medium for longer. Buuuut there’s no beating Benefit for the wide range of color offerings.
