Uber PinkThere’s always a first time for everything. And for this entry, I’ll be featuring my first ever lipstick from Bobbi Brown called Pink Kiss* from the Uber Pink Collection. Well, first of all – this collection certainly slipped through the beauty cracks unnoticed because I haven’t heard much about it at all. I do think it deserves more attention though, especially from pink lovers around the world. As I mentioned, I haven’t tried any lip products from Bobbi Brown yet but have heard great reviews on their Creamy Matte lipsticks which I’ve been dying to try. Pink Kiss is part of the Lip Color range which is Bobbi Brown’s original formula infused with beeswax and Vitamins C & E. It is described as full coverage creamy with a semi-matte finish.
The LowdownBobbi Brown Pink Kiss is a pale blue-based pink that would usually make me shudder because I am afraid of ze washed-out look (*ehem*MAC Angel/Creme Cup*). It’s not as milky pink as the two mentioned because there’s a tiny hint of coral preventing it from being a true baby pink which I usually shun. I instantly thought of MAC Betty Bright when I swatched it on my arms as I thought they looked similar (except Betty Bright is brighter and much more neon-like). An everyday Betty Bright? SCORE! As for texture and consistency, it’s very creamy with a bit more slip than I’m used to when it comes to cream lipsticks. It does have full coverage in two swipes, three if you’re looking for a super saturated look. It does have a slight tendency to accentuate dry flakes but nothing too crazy that I would want to just wipe it off and not wear it instead (*ehem* MAC Cremesheens). I surprisingly find the formula lightweight and comfortable to wear without drying my lips at all. A cream formula that doesn’t make my lips peel-y and cracking? ANOTHER SCORE! I don’t find it hydrating or moisturizing, though. But I’d take that over lipsticks that make my puckers crack. It has great wear-time for a cream lipstick, lasting a good four hours with a meal, coffee and iced tea in between. Usually cream lipsticks last only two hours tops on me before I need to reapply (which I actually don’t mind doing as long as the formula isn’t drying).
Final ThoughtsMy first impression of Pink Kiss when I popped open the cap, to be honest, was meh… but when I wore it, I fell in love with it. The shade is really a beautiful not-too-pale pale pink that I can see working well with light-medium skintones best. I’m not usually one to go for blue-based pinks, but I’m glad to have found one that finally works for me (thanks to the slightly coral tinge). I also find the cream formula forgiving (as compared to MAC Cremesheens I’ve shied away from permanently because they make my lips peel and crack). I would recommend trying it on, still, to see if it’s a blue-based pink that would work for you. If you’re more into bright lipsticks, Neon Pink is a permanent addition to the Lip Color range. I’m off to check out the Creamy Matte Lipsticks next after this encounter. The entire Bobbi Brown Uber Pink Collection is now available a Bobbi Brown counters in Rustan’s Makati, Rustan’s Shangri-la Mall, Essenses Rockwell, Rustan’s Ayala Center Cebu, SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall. The lipstick retails for Php1,300 each. Only Php300 more than a MAC lipstick 😉
Have you tried any Bobbi Brown lipsticks? Do share, please! Shade recommendations are also very much appreciated.
