13 seconds challenge
First off, happy new year to everyone who reads all the random nonsense I’ve been scribbling about in this blog the past year — you guys know who you are! Cheers to another year of fueling each other’s lemmings, imposing no-buys that never actually come to fruition (although mine did last minute of the year!) and drooling over new collections, trying our very best to resist temptation that lurks yet scramble to find them when we hear they’ve sold out.
To more crazies this coming year, yes? Life would be such a bore without them. Ha!
I’ll admit this now before I go on with this post.. I may be still be a little too pooped a.k.a buzzed from all the holiday wining and dining that happened the whole month of December. Anyhoots, I’ve also been feeling super antsy to share some sort of 2013 cap-off but the best I could come up with in between all the festivities, reunions (and more wine) going on is some kind of Top 13 Things I Could Grab in 13 Seconds. I threw it out on Twitter as a joke, but ended up sorta doing it anyway.
I would apologize for being teh worst blogger ever but then, I’m not really… so without much more ado (than I’ve already imparted), here are some 2013 random beauty products I’ll tell you about because I was too lazy to pick out the best ones, bahaha.
The Year I Plunged into Makeup Luxury Death That is Tom Ford
This year, I succumbed to the lure of Tom Ford Beauty. I’ve tried their quads – which I’m enamored with, a blush that I do love because of the color but can’t come to terms with the price and a few lipsticks of which one was a miss. Check out my reviews on the following Tom Ford items here — Orchid Haze quad, She-Wolf trio palette, Crimson Noir lipstick. I still have some quads to review so watch out for those this year, if you’re interested.
I dove into the world of highlighters this year and I ain’t lookin’ back yo. I used to scoff at the thought of glitter specks on my face but after discovering the elusive magic~ of the Guerlain Meteorites (which aren’t highlighters technically, but more of a finishing powder but whatevz), I’ve been on the constant lookout for goddess-like-glow ‘radiators’ that will leave even your frenemies fazed. Other faves are the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette and Burberry Nude Radiance.
Year of the Eyeshadow Singles
So I’ve always been
in a relationship a palette girl, never gone for singles because hello – what a waste of moolah going for only one shade when you can get so much more colors with a palette. But after being peer-pressured introduced to the world of Burberry Sheer Eyeshadows and Rouge Bunny Rouge singles, it’s like I never want to go back to palettes ever again. They’re such topnotch eyeshadow formulas that my blending skills (or lack thereof) are irrelevant. Check out the reviews here - Burberry Midnight Brown, Rouge Bunny Rouge Eyeshadows, Abyssinian Catbird and Unforgettable Oriole look.
The Year My Nails Got Did by Chanel
I’ve never been one to change nail colors at all before the year 2013 – only getting a bi-monthly mani-pedi without any color *GASP*. I do inject a red shade or french nails twice or thrice a year, but that’s it. I never had the patience to put on polish on my nails, as well – so nail polish was definitely alien territory for me. However, once I tried that one Chanel shade (Frenzy) my mom bought and experienced the breeze of application with the fantastic self-leveling formula, I was hooked. Hence, this happened…
I feel a bit embarrassed by the amount I’ve amassed in a year’s time (to be fair, my husband got most of those for me *hoping* I would end my affair with other makeup items! LOL). But yes, I did go through a nail polish stage sometime last year. Thankfully, I’m not as crazed anymore. Here’s a few I featured in the blog – Dragon, Bel Argus, Suspicious, Alchimie, Mysterious.
I Developed My Sixth Scents
Hmm, never really got to feature this stage in my life here in this blog but yes, I also went through a perfume phase. I read up on distinguishing the different base, top and middle notes, as well as determining sillage, longevity and all things scent-related. I realized I’m most drawn towards gourmand scents, especially that of vanilla and most-averse to anything floral. My favorites from last year – Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, Chloe EDP, Lanvin Eclat d’Arpege, Lolita Lempicka Lolita Lempicka (yup, twice).
The Year of the Items for Review & Consideration
To be honest, I never thought I’d be in this stage of blogging where I’ll be sent makeup items for review – I am greatly honored and truly grateful for all brands, online shops and advertisers that have shown their interest in pursuing anything here in my little space on the interwebz. Thank you a million times for the support!
The Year I Switched to Local and/or Organic
One major change I pursued this year is switching to an organic routine in terms of my hair. I never really gave my hair any attention before because I mainly gave up on all the damage I’ve done to it – coloring, straightening, etc. But after trying out the Human Heart Nature range a few years too late, I’m not looking back. No more silicones that coat my hair masking its true state! Although, take note that the HHN range includes a lot of essential oils that may break you out if you’re allergic/sensitive to one of them. I’ve also discovered the Vanilla & Co. hair mists and dewy spray lotion that have replaced my Chanel Hair Mist obsession (thanks to BeautyBasicsPH for sending them over).
New Year, New Me Bull…PEN
I would looooove to say it’s a new year and therefore there’s a new me in here guyss~! But nope. Still the same ol’ me attracted to shiny, pretty things trying my best to resist what can “not” be resisted. However, I think I’ve certainly toned down on the consumption that has devoured me last year. This year, no promises but I want to explore more on the drugstore realm (the treasure that could be found!!!) and Asian beauty products instead of the death of my wallet a.k.a luxury beauty. I’ll probably still be getting a few irresistible Chanel, Guerlain, Tom Ford items but… we’ll see!
Are you still there??? Anyway, enough words, here’s to a wonderful year ahead guys! CHEERS!!!
