Used and Abused
I know I have consumerist tendencies, that constant ‘oooh so pretty, must buy it cos y’know.. YOLO’
voice in my head, which I’ve been questioned and even criticized (through email and my ask form) one too many times now. I do feel bad that I project this kind of image because I don’t want young readers (if there are and I think there are a few) especially to feel the need to buy anything unnecessary in their lives. Especially that desire to keep up with the newest and the latest. Shocks, please don’t think I’m pushing for that. I admit I have an irrational obsession with pretty shiny things but I’m not advocating excessiveness in any way.
So with this post, (which I hope to have a series of) I hope to counter that buy buy buy
, keep up with the new
notion others think of this blog. I aim to champion use use use, finish up, empty, go for complete pan porn
instead! Of course, I can’t completely eliminate featuring new products, but I’m hoping to find a balance where I’m using more products up than I’m buying new ones.
For bases, I realized my most reached for products are — Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer
for most days where I need to tone down on the redness and blemishes but don’t want foundation and Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation
for when I need a full-on makeup look.
The Bobbi Brown
gel eyeliner in Black Ink
was great at first, but after three months, it just wasn’t working as well as it did during the start. Half has already dried up and it even smudges on me already. I should have gone with MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack instead because my Fluidline Gel browcreme is still going strong, despite how many months now (I bought both at around the same time). It did get a lot of love at the start, though.
Don’t you just love pan porn? ‘Cos I do, I do, I do, oooh. My NARS Laguna
has definitely been abused, for good reason. It’s so far been the only contour powder that works with my medium yellow-undertone Asian skintone, without looking muddy or orangey.
The MAC Fluidline Browcreme
is an eyebrow favorite
and staple that I wish I had hoarded back when it was available. I don’t use it everyday as I’m saving it for special occasions only. It is my key for full-looking, high-def brows.
The LORAC Pro
is officially my workhorse eyeshadow palette. I reach for it subconsciously when I’m in a hurry to head out but still want to do eyes. The shade with the most significant dip is Pewter
and some slight dips on Taupe, Mauve, Lt. Bronze and Champagne (in no particular order). I love the half-matte, half-shimmer allocation plus the pigmentation is superb. Only problem would be the fallout. But all in all, a definite winner. For someone who’s new to makeup, I would recommend this for a first basic eyeshadow palette (over the UD Nakeds).
Lastly, I have a few bottles of perfume which I switch to and from easily that I didn’t think I’d be using up a scent so fast as I did See by Chloe
. It’s not what you think, though. While I do love the not-too-sweet, subtle scent, the longevity is just.. not there. I don’t think it lasts even two hours on me. So when using this, I always bring it with me in my bag and spritz all day round. I’m on a current mission to finish it up (and won’t repurchase).
Would love to know your most used and abused products!
