0 YSL Gris Underground nail polish is from the Fall 2013 City Drive collection. Is it Periwinkle? Cornflower Blue? Gray? Whatever it is, it definitely grabbed my attention. I don’t gravitate towards cool-toned colors like these often but this one called out my name. I only have one YSL polish aside from this which I wasn’t too impressed with. I was hopeful that with this purchase I would change my mind. 4 1 Gris Underground is officially described as a cool pale blue gray creme. Its muted-ness in particular is what drew me to to purchase it despite my general tendency to shy away from such cool colors. It is a cream formula — no shimmer, no sparkle, just full-on cream. Opaque in one swipe, this polish goes on smoothly without streaking nor pooling in cuticles. 2 3 Compared to Chanel’s polishes, YSL polishes have a wider brush (like Dior’s) that coats my whole nail with one swipe. I’m quite confused right now which kind of brush I actually prefer more because while I do like that I can work faster with a wider brush, I can’t control it as well as a thinner brush.

Overall

love this color. It’s somewhat of a neutral grey that has a bit of edge because of its blue tinge and lavender hints. The formula is a dream to work with — I applied this on my nails with top coat in under 10 minutes (hurrying because Enzo and I were off to a movie)! The slight imperfections do show though because it was done in a hurry and sans base coat and ridge filler. I fell in love with this so much that I am now willing to spend for more YSL polishes than Chanel’s just so I can try more of YSL’s beautiful formulas and unique colors especially their creams. Disclaimer: I know it’s crazy to spend this much on nail polish but I justify that with their lifespan. As compared to face makeup products (talking only about those I already have enough of) that expire in 2 years tops, I’d rather spend on polish that can last for a longer time which I can actually use up.

This is such a pretty unique colour! I need to try YSL nail polishes soon. I’ve been so overwhelmed and in love with my Chanel ones that i haven’t really tried any other brands of polishes. This shade looks lovely against your skintone *thumbs up*

Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day <3

Hi Ying! I almost didnt grab this because I’m loyal to my Chanels too – but no regrets (or yes regrets for my wallet!)! It’s beautiful and the wide brush is something I appreciate!

Awwwww.. I love this lovely color as it is hard to find and the color carries a romantic temperament!

“I’m quite confused right now which kind of brush I actually prefer more because while I do like that I can work faster with a wider brush, I can’t control it as well as a thinner brush.” I have the same thought too but it is kinda a sweet problem. To me, I prefer wider brush as it takes less effort and makes the nail look smoother.

I’ve thought about this and I gotta agree, i do prefer the wider brushes too! Less brush strokes and room for errors!
