I mentioned in a previous post that I’ve found a Chanel blush that’s been grazing my cheeks daily since purchase. The creme blushes (from the Fall collection) are seeing less and less of daylight since this new baby arrived. Enter Chanel Rose Initial — a neutral medium-pink with very sparse microshimmer which is almost undetectable on skin. It’s been a while since I’ve been very excited seeing myself wearing blush. When I tried it on, I just had to take it home with me.

If you’re wary of the baked Euro formulas of Chanel blushes, I urge you to try this one because it’s quite unlike the others that are filled with shimmer. This has very tiny gold microshimmer that translates into a slight glow on the skin once you put it on. It’s so elusive you can’t pinpoint the flecks, it doesn’t give off a visible sheen the same way as Chanel Rose Tourbillon and NARS Orgasm.
The texture of Rose Initial is different because it’s more finely-milled than the usual baked versions. It’s quite powdery but forgivable since it melds on the skin once applied. It goes on well-pigmented, but not as pigmented as say, NARS’ matte blushes (the swatch above consists of 2 swipes of Rose Initial). It is buildable and very difficult to overdo. It lasts around 5-6 hours on my normal-combination skin before fading — the creme blushes last a bit longer though.
Comparing it with the three shades of blushes above, it actually does have a peach tinge to it but less than Amour’s and Orgasm’s peachiness. Beside Rose Tourbillon, you’ll see that Rose Inital lacks the sheen/shimmer that RT has.
I’ve seen swatches of Rose Initial online and they all look different depending on lighting. It’s very hard to capture its true color – even my swatches aren’t truly representative of its real shade. Some also describe it as warm, others cool-toned. I say it’s quite neutral on me because it doesn’t lean too warm like NARS Amour or too cool like NARS Gaiety.OVERALL This is a true winner for me. In the few weeks I’ve had it, it’s already been used up quite a lot. My Rose Tourbillon has taken a backseat as well as my creme blushes (which I’ve been using almost daily before I bought this). This is exactly the everyday blush I’ve been looking for without the shimmer/sheen that NARS Orgasm has. Too soon to tell if it’s my number one favorite or HG material, but it is kind of headed in that direction.
