Random Buys of the Week

Just a quick post on some impulse buys I grabbed while out during different days this week. No makeup product, I know right? Shocking! I realized I’ve become less impulsive on buying cosmetics ever since I started reading beauty blogs! Usually, I was the type to enter a beauty store, browse and see what catches my fancy (usually great packaging and/or enticing counters), swatch around and decide in an instant if I’ll buy it or not.

But not anymore. Now, when I feel like I’m liking an item, I grab my phone, go to Makeupalley or just search for reviews on Google and read what comes up on different beauty blogs regarding the product! It takes me FOREVER to decide that most of the time, I end up not buying anything at all — which is very favorable for my husband, methinks! It’s just so funny how long it takes me because sometimes even if a product gets 80% good ratings, it’s still the remaining 20% negative comments I focus on and think about. Is anyone else that anal when it comes to beauty product shopping now? Or is it just me? (Lawlz)

Anyway, moving on to my no-brainer buys, meaning I didn’t have to research, compare and investigate on these items prior to buying them:
Orly Top 2 Bottom — A base coat and a top coat in one bottle. I could have researched on this but decided against it as I really needed a base coat and top coat for my nails. Thinking of ordering the Seche Vite soon though.

Orly Blue Suede — A matte blue shade that my husband picked out for me out of the X shades I was choosing from. I wanted to go with a non-matte one but the frosted packaging really got me. Tsk tsk.

Revlon Elegant — Classic shade for when I’m not feeling in the mood to have any pop of color. It’s a neutral creamy light beige that looks a bit light gray to me in some lighting.

Tweezerman Petite Tweeze Set — The King of all tweezers! I love that I got it on sale at Beauty Bar, and it was the last piece! The set includes a classic precision slant tweezer and a thinner point set that grabs the tiniest smallest finest hairs.

Zebra Nail File — I brushed it off at first and thought it’s just a pretty nail file to look at but it actually works really well, too! Again, this was bought at the prodding of my husband who saw me smiling at a zebra-print nail file and thought I was in love with it. He also bought a 10x magnifying mirror along with this for my tweezing sessions (we saw one in Beauty Bar that cost more than 1000 bucks! He saw one for less than half the price so he immediately bought it!). And guess where we found these two items? True Value Home Appliance store! Turns out they have some really quirky cool stuff in one section.

Those have to be the sharpest tweezers I’ve ever seen lol.
I like those kind of natural shades, like the Revlon polish you bought. It makes your nails look longer!

ooo that color is pretty! I can’t wear revlon polish it doesn’t stay on more than two days because it chips like crazy! Which sucks because they come in such great colors!

I’ve never see ORLY is it a good brand to buy?

    • November 30, 2012 / 3:50 am

Yes, Orly is actually one of the best-selling polishes in the industry. There’s Essie, Orly, China Glaze, Zoya, Butter London ♥ I’m sad Revlon chips easily! Maybe get a very heavy duty top coat? 🙂

  7. November 30, 2012 / 3:05 am

ooo! let me know how the blue suede is! i’ve heard a lot of formulas for dark matte polishes are troublesome, but if this one is good, i might just have to go get it for myself. 🙂

I get those moments too when I just buy stuff because … well, yeah it took me some time already and I really wanted them so go ahead and grab them … that kind of thing! LOL. Your items are great I believe hehehe. Good nail care stuff. I never really bothered about these, not until now that I’m in blogging and in fashion/beauty interests haha.

Thank you so much for your comment on my blog, I really appreciate it! 😀 I’m a new follower of your blog, it would be great if you could follow mine back too! 🙂 I was just at the drugstore the other day wondering if I should get Revlon’s Elegant, it seemed like a lovely color but I was afraid it come out different than what it looks like in the bottle! Perhaps i should get myself a bottle 😛 I’ve never tried any ORLY Nail-polishes before, I would love to though, there are so many nailpolish brands that aren’t available in my country 🙁 Hope to try out an ORLY Nail-polish in the future. I love the blue, your husband did a good job picking out that shade, it’s so pretty 😉

    Love,

You should try out an Orly – it’s better than drugstore polishes as it lasts longer. You can order online, I believe 🙂 Thanks for visiting!

LOL at Makeupalley! I actually LIST everything I want to look at in the store instead of browsing, so it’s a lot faster. I am always overwhelmed by the lipstick counter at MAC so I go there with a shade in mind. It took me FOREVER to decide on Jubilee, which was the first time I ever got a MAC shade.

The last non-makeup product I bought was a brush cleaner! 🙂 I’m just thankful that I don’t really like nail polish, so that’s one less thing for me to buy!

    • December 2, 2012 / 7:36 am

I’m not a nail polish girl too! These are actually one of the few polishes I bought at a whim. I’d take a brush cleaner over nail polishes too, though. 🙂 And I have a long list of MAC lipsticks too for when I go to MAC to buy one. Kakahiya na nga minsan I stay too long just to purchase one! Haha

Whenever I visit David’s salon for a pedicure, I choose Orly because I love the shades and it stays on longer.

    • December 2, 2012 / 7:34 am

It does stay on longer! Compared to local Caronia brands. However, you should try Zoya nail polishes sis, super long lasting too.

  23. December 6, 2012 / 5:09 am

Gosh yes, I always search for reviews before buying a product, especially if it’s expensive. You have a cute and lovely blog here, adding you to my google reader! 🙂
